D+K Architects’ designers wanted a quirky look for a high-end Chicago bar’s rooftop patio. There

were several cinder block structures where they wanted graphics to appear as if they were painted on them. BluEdge suggested a building wrap film which was designed to conform to the surface it is applied to. The result was exactly the effect the client was looking for. Additionally over the bar the designer envisioned a back lit ceiling measuring 8’x 17’. BluEdge’s solution: custom build a large format frame designed to hold fabric. Print a durable dye-sub fabric print suitable for back lighting and install with stand-off’s over the ceiling light array. At night special lighting plays off the black and white graphics to create a dazzling show of patterns.

This project required collaboration between the existing licensed rigger, hired to rig the structure onto the stadium wall, and our BluEdge associates. The event involved the creation and unveiling of a large sign acknowledging the launch of the Mets All Star Game. The installation called for our BluEdge associates to devise and stage the unveiling methods for multiple rehearsals and finally the live event. The opening of the All Star Game was an enjoyable success!

Pennsylvania Ballet was established in 1963 and is one of the premier ballet companies in the United States. Pennsylvania Ballet annually presents a season of six programs. BluEdge was honored to help produce the banners for Swan Lake. The client was looking for an outdoor application to display their Swan Lake premier. BluEdge recommended a large outdoor vinyl banner finished with custom pole pockets to fit Pennsylvania Ballet’s existing framing system.

The Center for Architecture is home to the AIA NY Chapter and provides resources to the public and building industry through exhibitions, programs and special events. Fit Nation was a collaborative exhibition with Pentagram Design and Abruzzo Bodziak Architects. It was inspired by New York City’s Active Design Guidelines and the annual Fit City Conference. The Center for Architecture called on BluEdge to produce and install all wall and window graphics, which satisfied both curatorial and design visions.

Allsteel’s sprawling showroom at Chicago’s Merchandise mart needed to depict their theme on

all their walls in a colorful way. Dimensional letters were also needed to display their name. The designers worked with BluEdge to make it happen, and happen quickly. This project was to be completed for their most important event of the year: Neocon Chicago. Since the showroom’s construction was not completed until shortly before show time this left little room for error. The show went on without a hitch.

After

School Matters (ASM) to creates a network of out-of-school opportunities, including apprenticeship and drop-in programs for teens in under served communities. With the assistance of the City of Chicago Department of Aviation, ASM contracted BluEdge to photograph and print 4 feet by 8 feet window clings of students’ artwork. The prints span the windows of T-1 and T-2 terminals at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport. These bright, colorful images showcase images of Chicago landmarks, through the eyes of Chicago’s inner city teens.

GENSLER RECEPTION AREA (CLOSE-UP DETAIL ABOVE)

Gensler wanted to create a memorable reception experience for clients coming to their Chicago

office. Their designers came up with a concept which included printing on several heavy steel plates measuring 8 feet by 4 feet each. The idea was to print past architectural plans directly to the plates while still conveying the substantial look of the steel itself. This posed many challenges for the digital print making process such as: extreme weight, hardware protrusions attached to the plates alignment, very tight printing toleranceâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s across the plates. Through testing, production modifications and careful planning BluEdge came through with exactly what Genslers designers had envisioned.

had a problem. Their Chicago office has a beautiful Louis Sullivan staircase that, unfortunately, fire codes required be covered up by a fire door. Gensler’s creative teams’ answer was to photograph the stairway and employ BluEdge to come up with the most effective way to print and install the image onto the fire door.

Working closely with BluEdge, each installed graphic from bathroom signage to stunning glass encapsulated wall graphics created exactly the “feel” the client demanded.

MAC PROPERTIES HISTORIC LAKELAND HOTEL RENTAL CONVERSION - RECREATION ROOM

Historic Lakeland Hotel, former stomping grounds of Amelia Earhart, Al Capone and Jimmy Hoffa,

had loomed empty over the lakefront since the University of Chicago moved its students out in 2009. MAC Properties soon thereafter renovated the building as a high-end rental project. MAC’s designers’ goal was to incorporate graphics which mimicked designs found within the original hotel. The interior decor was designed with specific colors that also needed to be reflected in the wall covering. Working closely with BluEdge’s graphic experts led to the great satisfaction of MAC’s design team.

Silliman

Group, the design and construction arm of a fast growing real estate development company, partnered with BluEdge to manage their entire project from file preparation to out of state installation. The color, tone and “look” of the graphics were carefully prepared from small files provided by Silliman Group. Communicating closely with the designers through proofs, the graphics were prepared for printing. From these files, wall covering was printed nine feet tall and up to forty six feet long. Several common areas were adorned with custom graphics giving the old space a new look and feel.

Designers chose as a backdrop an extreme close-up of a lotus, abstracted into swishes and swoops of purple. One image extends a full 36 feet behind the main bar, at a height of 7 feet, while a smaller 26-foot image runs behind a second bar, also with graceful arcs of color. We showed how different substrates, saturations and finishes would set off the colors and create different effects, presenting the client with a host of samples in a shared quest for perfection.

VIRTUA

Virtua opened a new health and fitness center in New Jersey, which included a state of the art gym and indoor track that stretched the length of the interior perimeter was framed by an interior wall that could be viewed from the parking lot and front entrance. Working directly with Stantec, the architect who designed the new Virtua facility, BluEdge created a method to display graphics that would be large enough to cover the 25’ high x 50’ long wall that curved around the running track. Specialized track Hardware was mounted at the top and bottom of the banners allowing them to easily bend and form to the wall. This provided a smooth transition as the wall curved. Tension springs were used to attach the printed banners to the hardware allowing the banner to follow the curved wall. The result was stunning graphical images that contributed to the beautification of the building, while enhancing Virtua’s brand.

WILLOW CREEK COMMUNITY CHURCH’S “MISSIONS WALL”

Willow Creek Community Church in Barrington, IL had a goal to create a wall that displayed the church’s many missions throughout the world to it’s visitors. Artist Marg Rehnberg produced a stylized map background that set the stage for the graphics. Their vision was to create panels that would be offset from the map to tell specific stories. We suggested printing on translucent frosted acrylic so a softened background would be visible within the panel. White was printed behind selected photographs and text so they would stand out prominently from the background. The result was a multi dimensional graphic that has a balanced cohesive look.

When it came to the graphics for the Museum space architect Chris Payne turned to BluEdge to work their magic. With a rough concept of what graphics Chris wanted BluEdge presented options, costs and solutions to best communicate the shrine’s message. With an extremely tight deadline the project was completed on time with stunning results.

The National Constitution Center Museum hosted the exhibit ‘From Asbury Park to the Promised Land: The Life and Music of Bruce Springsteen.’ Visitors had the ability to travel with Springsteen from the boardwalks of small-town New Jersey to packed stadiums around the world. Throughout the exhibition, listening and viewing stations featured interviews with Springsteen, previously unreleased songs from some of his early musical groups, and footage of some of the most famous performances of his career. More than 150 artifacts—including family photographs, notebooks filled with handwritten song lyrics, the Fender Esquire guitar from the cover of Born to Run, the outfit Springsteen wore on the cover of Born in the USA, posters from all phases of his career, and his 1960 Chevrolet Corvette—helped paint a complete portrait of the famous singer/songwriter.

25 of the original 48 printed copies of The Emancipation Proclamation signed by President Lincoln remain in existence today—one of which was on view for a limited time in a special exhibition at the National Constitution Center. BluEdge created a large informational graphic that covered the entire surface of two large walls that were built to create the exhibit space. Inside the exhibit area BluEdge printed graphics onto adhesive vinyl that were then applied to the wall surfaces. Additional information graphics were printed direct to ridged boards, routed to size and cleat mounted off of the vinyl to create interesting spatial design and a sense of rhythm.

The exhibition moves through town from the 16th century to post-World War II period.

BluEdge teamed up with designer Nick Apice, a visual designer and illustrator hired by the Boy Scouts of America, to assist in building an engaging graphic environment showcasing the BoA’s dedication to environmental sustainability. The goal was to create a visually attractive space that visitors and guests could engage with while maintaining a informative message about BoA’s sustainability initiatives.

The result was the use of post-consumer recycled ridged substrates routed and milled into custom shapes. Direct printing was utilized to display information onto plywood that could later be reused as building material. Each display had rich visual graphics incorporated with informative content.

GREEN BAY PACKERS 21,500 SQ.FT. RETAIL STORE AT LAMBEAU FIELD

The Green Bay Packers commissioned 555 International to design and build their new 21,500 Sq.

Ft. retail store at Lambeau Field. The project consisted mostly of slat wall fixtures that needed to be covered with Packer graphics to give the space its personality. 555 worked with BluEdge to come up with a stunning and durable solution that met the project’s goals. BluEdge provided recommendations for printing and also samples to conceptualize the project, that were then applied to the prototype slat walls. The need of a backlit graphic came up for one of the large displays. This graphic needed to have the look of a jersey with stitched on letters. BluEdge presented 3 concepts for printing. As the project progressed, more graphics were requested. A unique cut frosted vinyl graphic for a large glass wall and many Sintra and magnetic graphic displays were added at the last minute. All graphics were successfully installed in time for the store’s grand opening.
