The soft pastel colour pallet was beautifully executed by using pale pink and ivory accent tones. The team started off by creating the custom-made pale pink rosette table linen which draped across the table creating the perfect base for this elegant layout. Adding to this the handmade backdrop consisted of a metal birdcage frame dressed with fresh flowers and ribbons. The delicious desserts were created by the very talented Lisa from Cakes and Biscuits by Lisa. We worked together in design to create the stunning flower cupcakes, cake pops , macaroons, gorgeous lovebird scallop edge biscuits and the very cute meringue birds nests. Each element divine. Macaroons were placed in our clear acrylic Perspex boxes that we (P&J by Design) stock. Great if guests wanted to take these home to eat. These would also be a great gift idea.

The buffet was filled with lovely fresh flowers and lolly boxes to match the theme and colours.

www.blessedmagazine.com.au

So finally after 6 years of planning & procrastinating our very first issue of Blessed Magazine is here! All of our creative juices are squeezed into this edition for a GRAND ENTRANCE into the online magazine world. The pages are dripping with creative ideas and inspiration for you to fall in love with! There is a reason why this magazine is sitting in front of you today and not next year… Since launching the Christening Directory website in 2012, I have met some extremely talented small business operators and lucky for me, Rachel from Gaia Creative fell onto my page and into my laptop lol… I want to thank her for all the hard work, energy and inspiration that she has committed to this magazine and I just know that everyone that reads this first issue will see why I’m thanking her. (As she proof reads the first edit, she smiles knowing that you can’t fight Destiny… (and right back at you Marina) x) We have things for you to print, recipes, planning tools and Christening Ideas that will get you really excited to start planning your own beautiful day! Whilst creating Blessed, some things really stood out, although to be honest we struggled with what not to include. I want to keep this short and sweet because there is so much for you to see in our first issue of Blessed. So if your sneaking in a peek at work, whilst travelling on the train or while baby is taking a nap (maybe you’re a godparent to be or a wise grandmother bringing yourself up to date with current trends), whoever and wherever you are, make sure you read it all, cover to cover because every page is full of love and inspiration for you to loose yourself in. Happy reading and happy planning.

Welcome

Marina Mandoukos aka Reeny Doukee CHRISTENING DIRECTORY My business journey in this

industry has had many highs and lows. The Christening industry has always been my passion

and I had the pleasure (and

sometimes pain) of operating my own Christening business a few

years ago! I am also a Mum to a toddler Princess who some days

rules the house and my heart ♥. I love helping people and with

this magazine and my directory

I get to indulge in helping Mum’s party plan, give Godparents

direction & help small businesses express their love & creativity.

Rachel Plakidis aka Accident Queen GAIA CREATIVE

Gaia Creative started about 6 years ago, taking briefs on small design jobs for small corporate businesses. However after launching I became pregnant and everything went on pause... 3 children later the direction of my business changed and I started to move into event planning. I love design and creating events that resonate with the star and their guests for days afterwards. I stumbled onto the Christening Directory’s page, where I was able to insult Marina, then create an amazing relationship relatively quickly. Roxanne and I were like peas in a pod since meeting, she is edgy and sophisticated... where I am rough and ready... I am lucky to be sharing this journey with them both.

Roxanne Dunger aka Rocky Road LIFE IN LINES

Life in lines got its name from the nature of the work; the idea that life events were being created

via design (lines). From birthdays to christenings and anything

in between. I love being able to

produce pieces that resonate with people. There’s nothing better

than someone finding joy in what you have created and thanking

you for something I don’t consider to be work. It’s my hope that

what I do will turn into my full time job, and as they say ‘I’ll never work a day in my life’

because I enjoy every minute of it.

The Inspiration Little Justin had a baby Blanket with similar colours that his Mum just adored, and as simple as that the theme was created. The candy buffet was professionally styled by the talented Mon Tresor, Couture Cupcake & Cookies designed the masterpiece chevron cake and each centrepiece was made by Justin’s clever Mummy.

The Ceremony

Justin’s Mum took the theme all the way through from the Church Ceremony to the reception and with a theme like this I highly recommend it. There are small intricate details that embellish this table, which we really love.

TIP

When you have a clear picture of your theme and colour, co-ordinating all the businesses becomes much easier.

Entertainment

With over 50 CHILDREN, Tumbletown came to the rescue with an indoor play centre that kept the kids occupied (and parents happy) for hours! A special thanks to Justin’s Mum for allowing me to share his special day with all of you x

DIY ALERT

Large white one meter balloons with long strands of ribbon in the theme colours hanging off the ribbon. These were used to display behind the candy buffet & on every table.

Things We Love

1. The glitter crown really brings a sense of regality. More often than not it’s those small touches that people remember the most. 2. Matching ribbon with stitching, with simplistic tags, the cleaner the better - don’t over-design these elements - let the entire table work seamlessly together. 3. The cakes clean lines are simply gorgeous, when executed right the chevron (or as most people call it zigzag) really makes a statement. 4. The coloured glass dish again enhances the entire look. These small details, when put all together make that beautiful impact that you envisioned from the start.

Editor’s PICKS

This proved to be the hardest as there was so much to choose from but I thought I would pick out some of my absolute favourite styled Christening details for our little men!

Baked by Belle produced this gorgeous baked owl cookie. Bomboniere or table buffet treats, they are adorable.

Lucas’ Baptism Chocolates by The Sweet Society have regality written all over them. With the gold filigree together with the blue stripes this design is a sure winner with our Editor.

Harper Events Design have used this gorgeous colour combination to create a lolly buffet for Damien’s Christening. It looks luxurious.

It’s a Cake Thing (by Jhoanee) has creatively used the chocolate oreo gems mixed with toppers to give them impact and layout out a little differently on the buffet table.

LOLLY/SWEET BUFFET

blue... It’s easy to be

Sweets, desserts, cookies and cakes are the highlight of many celebrated events and today we look closely at the blue buffet, which fills the page with simple detail. Sweet Heavens Lolly Buffets blue elephant biscuits ooze with cuteness, which transforms a simple sweet into a gorgeous feature. Our sweet stylists are very talented and can create all sorts of desserts to match your theme, especially with a simple biscuit. I always take this type of biscuit home and look at it for a few days before I bite into it! Sooti Event Styling + Design used the inspiration for this Baby Elephant Christening theme from the party printables available from Style Me Gorgeous then Sweet Tiers continued the magic with their cake and cookies to match!

“I love the use of fresh flowers on the corners of the buffet.” TIP

Symmetry! If you are designing your own buffet you can’t go wrong creating a mirror image on either side.

Sweet Heavens Lolly Buffets

Style Me Sweet styled this beautiful Christening for bubs Kyrillos. Their www.blessedmagazine.com.au client had planned the event around a Rocking Horse theme and the brief was for a dessert table that was very regal and vintage-looking and it needed to follow a soft blue, gold and ivory colour scheme. The grand 3-tier cake with a vintage rocking horse topper was created by Thu of Cakes2Cupcakes.

Chocolate bars were wrapped in the most beautiful embossed paper and the ribbon matched the clients invitation. The take-home dessert boxes were also crafted so they too had a 3D effect. This event was hosted at the gorgeous Oatlands House in Oatlands, a Navarra Venue.

17

The blue & taupe owl buffet is professionally styled using a range of props and sweet delights by Sugar Coated Candy & Dessert Buffets! The cake is the centre of attention while cellophane cookies and cupcakes fill the table with smiles! HIGHLIGHT: The different sized & coloured paper fans are perfectly positioned to create a feature behind the cake. TIP: Leave a gap between the back of a wall and the candy buffet so you can cut the cake amongst all the gorgeous detail when taking photos.

www.blessedmagazine.com.au

My son being the first child for my husband and I was named after our mums who have both passed away. My mum was Eleni and George’s mum was Dina so when we had a boy we felt that we should honour them and christen him Constantine and go by the name Connor. The church that we chose is very special to both our families, especially mine as it holds a lot of family history. My parents migrated to Australia and we lived in the Northern Beaches, our local parish being St Michael’s in Crows Nest. Mum and Dad got married there, and I along with my siblings were baptised there and my husband and I were also married there. The most amazing thing of all is that the same priest has performed all ceremonies and it meant the world to us that Connor was going to be baptised by the same priest Rev. John Daskalakis. My brother Loukas who was also our best man at our wedding did the honour of baptising Connor and really did an incredible job. Choosing Connor’s outfit and box was very straight forward as I have always left that to the capable team at Bon Bon Tresor in Ramsgate. I knew I didn’t want anything traditional so I opted for a selection of pieces to make up Connor’s outfit. The box and candle were also made up and purchased from Bon Bon Tresor. When it came time to work out the theme, venue, invitations etc, I tried to be as hands on as possible. I love the beach and I knew I wanted to have a day event so it made

sense to go with Omeros on the beach as the venue, the food there is amazing and the service is five star. With the venue chosen the theme I felt was best suited was nautical with a vintage twist. I found a design theme that I loved after doing countless searches on Google

26

on Etsy.com and used that for my invites, thank you cards and all other elements throughout the event. Once I had the creative concept set I searched for suppliers that cater for bomboniere, cakes, cupcakes, lolly buffets and table

settings and came across Gaia Creative. From the very beginning Rachel was an absolute delight to deal with. Rachel was very excited as was I to see how the theme was going to come to life. Gaia Creative with the help of Tracey from Cakeolicious exceeded my expectations.

www.blessedmagazine.com.au

Both Rachel and Tracey did an exceptional job in really looking at the detail and even though I may have been a bit of a control freak the whole way through I was still surprised on the day with the final little touches. Rachel made it all come together seamlessly.

The day was captured through photos and cinema. The team from Photography & Cinema by Filmography did an exceptional job in capturing all the special moments on camera, from dressing Connor to going to the church to everyone enjoying the amazing food and ambience at Omeros on the Beach.

All in all the day was perfect. It is a blessing for us to have Connor in our lives and we hope our mothers are looking down on us with pride.

Things We Love

1. The table numbers just had that edge to them - incorporating the nautical theme, still leaving room for the food on the table. 2. The anchor and rope.... just exquisite. 3. The detail on the box and candle are simply stunning. 4. Burlap / hessian, too much can become distracting, this was kept minimal and worked well with the other nautical colours.

The proof really is in the pudding, and the cakepops, cupcakes, macarons and jars!!

Minute by minute I watched the experts of each trade place their magical touch to each section of the restaurant. First the chairs, each one was converted into a pretty seat with a perfectly tied pink bow, the back of every chair was dressed like a gift and this was just the beginning of what was about to take place.

Vintage birdcages began to land on each table & they were all filled with Ivory pearls, pink flowers and candles, which would be lit as the night set in. Table numbers and the menu for the afternoon were all designed on a 3 faced stand ready to greet each guest as they arrived. They were trimmed with pretty pink lace and a photo of little Emma. Simple glass frosted crosses were set amongst the centrepieces and the pink satin tulle added a splash of colour to the table.

The cake was waiting when we arrived and it stood alone on an empty table, until the candy buffet stylist arrived. The simple white tablecloth was removed and replaced by stunning layers of ruffled table linen. Then the glass jars, cake stands, pedestals & compote bowls were strategically placed on the main table. Vintage lace & sweet tags dressed all the tableware and finally the lonely cake became a grand feature amongst so many sweets, treats & candy! The sweetest smell ran straight to my head

OREO POPS DIRECTIONS

SUPPLIES Double Cream Oreo biscuits (VERY IMPORTANT)

Cake pop sticks Melting white chocolate Edible gold glitter (AVAILABLE AT MOST CRAFT & BAKING SHOPS)

YOUR STEPS 1. Turn your rice cooker on warm and allow to heat up for 20min, this allows you to have the same consistency of chocolate as well as eliminating re heating. 2. Place your melting chocolate in the rice cooker once it has warmed up 3. Twist your Oreo biscuit and place cake pop stick in the centre then push it into the cream. 4. Coat your Oreo pops in melted white chocolate in a spinning motion. Tilt your rice cooker on the side to ensure complete coverage. 5. Place on a tray with backing paper and allow setting in the fridge. 6. Sprinkle edible glitter on the front of your Oreo pop with a teaspoon. 7. Try one of your delicious creations!

Why do we love this?

GLITTER

You can have these ready a few days before and they still taste amazing! It’s something you can make with the kids

Tip: to ensure your Oreo pop sticks together when coating with chocolate place a small amount of melting chocolate in the centre to secure the stick.

Our 1st competition ever was one that took time and effort to enter, we loved reading all your stories, seeing all your images and photos of your little blessings! We pulled together 3 judges and had them score each entry separately, a BIG thank you to the judges for taking the time to look through every entry. Thank you so much to everyone that entered and to all the businesses that sponsored the categories, without you we could not have put together such an amazing competition! Every winner will have their special day featured in Blessed Magazine and lucky for us our major prize winner made it to our 1st issue. In this issue you will see our Winner celebrate her daughter’s dream Christening, with details that make you fall in love & elements of beauty that are created for a special little person.

AND THE WINNER IS

JOANNE HARB & FAMILY Candle Occasions have outdone themselves in creating a sweet vintage rose theme that was requested by Joanne.

The invitation was designed by Gaia Creative using the clients’ supplies. Adding additional ribbon Gaia Creative created 65 invitations for little Annalise, and what wonderful feedback recipients gave on receiving them.

The pram was supplied by Lily’s Attic and the dress was made using her Wedding Gown by her personal dress maker... the vintage style looks as regal as Prince George’s christening gown.

A timeless religious Milano Cross by P&J by Design, a perfect choice by mum Joanne. Jewellery Couture provided this sweet pearl and diamanté bracelet with girly charms that are shiney and sparkley - everything just right for a little girl.

The sign for the buffet invited guests to have a sweet treat after their main meal designed by Gaia Creative.

The lolly buffet styled by Bitter Sweet Creations, used tones of pink and salmon and golds to follow through the vintage theming. The cake pops by Creations 2Impress were co-ordinated to match the cupcakes and cake Joanne had chosen. Our favourite item from the day were Cakeolicious’ cupcakes.

If these images don’t tell a story we don’t know what does... this is a self explanatory DIY...

With this DIY dessert section you will need a lot of melted chocolate to transform each dessert. Best part is there is less washing up!

SUPPLIES

A block of Philadelphia cheese 2 packets of 100&1000s cookies Cake pop sticks Melting white chocolate Edible glitter

100S & 1000S CAKE POPS DIRECTIONS

Step 1: leave Philadelphia cheese out of the fridge to come down to room temperature (about 20 mins) Step 2: blend each packet of biscuits in the blender until it becomes fine Step 3: add Philadelphia cheese and biscuits together mixing with your fingers. Tip: adjust how many biscuits you need by looking at your mix, you don’t want it to be too white. Step 4: scoop out a 20 cent piece and roll a small ball into your hand. Insert your cake pop stick and place them on a baking sheet, then place in your fridge for 1/2 hour to set. Step 5: cover your sprinkle pops in melted white chocolate and set back on backing paper. Sprinkle with edible gold glitter immediately. Then place in fridge to set. Step 6: serve on a crisp white platter or you can be creative and use a gold photo frame to display your sprinkle pops!

OREO MILK CHOCOLATE GEMS

YOU WILL NEED

DIRECTIONS: Another really simple, easy to do process making you into a very fabulous DIY chocolate gem goddess! As our very detailed step by step guide shows, melt your chocolcate using your rice cooker, ensure you pour enough chocolate to cover the bottom of your silicone tray. Place your oreo on top and leave it to float - TIP: DO NOT PRESS IT INTO THE CHOCOLATE. Then carefully pour the remaining chocolate onto the oreo until covered. Place in the fridge until set, pop out of the tray and dust with gold.... EASY & DELICIOUS!

SUPPLIES

Strawberries White chocolate for melting Gold edible glitter

CHOCOLATE STRAWBERRIES DIRECTIONS This is a very basic one. Use the same method to melt the chocolate, as in the DIY recipes for your cakepops or your oreos. Make sure your strawberries are washed and dried. Dip your strawberry into the chocolate. We always think two coats works wonders so wait until your first coat drys. Using the same technique to sprinkle your ediable gold dust you can then pop in the fridge and have these ready to devour in no time at all!

TRANSFORM YOUR SIMPLE CANDELABRA INTO A GOLDEN MASTERPIECE!

Tip: If you spray the sealer too close you will lose the sparkle of the glitter.

Tip: leave a small area free from paint so you can manoeuvre the candelabra without ruining the rest of the paint. Step 1: Coat your candelabra with Gold spray paint using brush stroke movements to create an even coat. Step 2: Wait 5 minutes to dry Step 3: Spray adhesive spray using the same brush stroke method as the spray paint. Tip: Spray your adhesive in sections otherwise it will dry before you get the glitter dust on and it won’t stick. Step 4: Tilt your candelabra on the side to get an angle for glitter coating Step 5: Tap your glitter evenly onto the adhesive strip you have created and continue to do this until your candelabra is covered (apart from small section remember 1st tip) Step 5: Wait a few hours for your candelabra to dry and repeat steps onto the part of the candle you left untouched. Step 6: Spray your clear gloss sealer evenly (and not to close) across your candelabra to seal your glitter.
