After a few years on the sidelines, NHRA Pioneer Peggy Llewellyn is ready to get back to work. She first hit the circuit in 2000, and went on to become the first woman of color in the world to win a professional motorsports event. Faced with the constant challenge of funding and running her own race team, she let us in on the life of an NHRA drag racer. Q. What’s the most challenging part of your sport? A. It’s challenging yet fulfilling to run my own race team. I am responsible for everything, including budgeting, logistics, getting the crew to the race. Having people that you can trust helps alot. Q. Who’s your biggest competition this year? A. Everyone is great competition. The sport has evolved and everyone is doing great things! Q. The new season starts in March. How do you feel going into it? A. I’m excited, I can’t wait! Q. What bike will you ride this season? A. I’ll start off on a suzuki this year, but it depends. We will be working with a few different sponsors. In the past, when you would get with a sponsor, they would give you everything you would need. These days, they’ll give you some parts to use and you work with other teams to build your bike. Q. What goals have you set for this season ? A. My #1 goal is to race all the events for 2011. My career hasn’t been about the quantitiy, its been about the quality of the races. I want to win a couple of money events and win a couple of championships. Q. How can you help introduce more women to the sport? A. I’m thinking about starting a foundation to invite women to the events so they can experience the race. Women are coming out more. Men often thank me for being out there to put a face on what women’s racing is. Q. What advice would you give to women looking to race professionally? A. The first step would be to try out Frank Holly’s Drag Racing School, taught by George Bruce. Take the Pro Stock motorcycle course. Stay Focused, Have Patience and Faith!

“Our mission is to bring

the fun back to the set, being more like a family and not just a club...” 16

Q. Tell us about Boss Lyfe Ridaz MC founding and chapters... A. BOSS LYFE RIDAZ MC was thought of and formed by Sha’Tari Stevenson/ BOSS LADY (PRESIDENT) on Nov.12th 2009 ( with 7 original members) NIMP4 (VICE PRESIDENT) , VIP, SHOW TYME, J-BONE, BABY BOSS, & AK (Los Angeles, Ca.) After being in two other exsisiting clubs and giving my all & never being appreciated or valued, I decided to form a club based on what I felt some clubs were lacking: #1 respect for its members, #2 having a positive rep, #3 being family friendly, #4 RIDING ( in & outside of L.A.) #5 having fun, #6 looking out for & supporting all those around us, #7 being a asset to the set and helping when or whereever we could and not just being viewed as another new club on the set. I was mentored by my Uncle Danger John & my Bestfriend Boo both from Chosen Few MC, Big John from Brothers of the Sun & my Big Sister Storm Sisters of the Sun, Karmel Kitty of Route 66, and PT Cruiser of Steel Horses. Candi of the Zodiacs encouraged me to take my ideal and make it a REALITY and to REP the POSITIVE LADY RIDERS ON THE SET. Q. What’s the club’s mission or motto? A. Our Motto is “BOSS UP OR GET BOSS’D ON”. Our mission is to bring back the fun to the set, being more like a family and not just a club, and supporting one another both on the set and off the set. RIDING is our passion and we ride EVERYDAY, Supporting & Respecting ALL...MC,SC, & AUXILLARY CLUBS (before us) as well as the newer ones coming behind us. Q. What are your favorite cities or roads to ride? A. WE LOVE “ALL” THE CANYONS, SAN DIEGO & THE 110 FWY ESPECIALLY. OUR RUNS INCLUDE PALM SPRINGS, VEGAS, SAN DIEGO, FRESNO, ARIZONA, ETC....

Q. What annual events do you promote? BREAST CANCER , MS, HIV & AIDS WALK ETC.. THANKSGIVING FEEDING THE HOMELESS, WCPA HOOD TOY TOSS, BACKPACK EVENT FOR THE KIDS, OUR ANNUAL DANCE & PICNIC Q. What should a woman look for in an MC club? A. HOW WELL THAT CLUB RESPECT YOU, ONE YOU CAN LEARN FROM, AND BEING ACCEPTED & VALUED AS A RIDER Q. What does your club look for in a member? A. WE LOOK FOR COMMITMENT & LOYALITY Q. What is your criterion for membership? YOU MUST OWN A BIKE, HAVE CURRENT M1 OR PERMIT IN THE PROCESS OF GETTING M1, LOVE TO RIDE, LOVE FAMILY SETTINGS, BE CONSIDERATE OF OTHER, HELPCHARITIES AND MOST IMPORTANT, YOU HAVE TO BE A “BOSS”, BE IT OWNING YOU’RE OWN BUINESS, RUNNING THINGS AT YOUR JOB, AND BEING ABLE TO BRING SOMETHING TO THE TABLE TO MAKE BOSS LYFE RIDAZ THAT MUCH BETTER.... Q. Are there any last words you’d like to leave us with? A. REGARDLESS TO WHAT YOUR TITLE MAY OR MAY NOT BE NEVER TREAT ANYONE LIKE THERE BENEATH YOU BECAUSE YOU’LL NEVER KNOW HOW HIGH THEY’LL BE PLACED AND HOW LOW YOU MAY FALL...BUT KNOW THIS “BOSS LADY PRES.” WILL ALWAYS REACH OUT MY HAND TO HELP!!!!!
