”My life on the sea” Hello! My name is Henrik “Henry” Hudson. I was born in England 1565. But now I´m going tell you about my sea story. After a long trip from England I can now see the coastline of America. When we came closer I saw an Indian and I was very scared. I have never seen a red man before so I was curious. When my ship Halve Mean went ashore, the Indians turned up.Me and my crew went off the ship and the Indians came closer. And we met each other on the middle of the beach. Then we started to fight , the Indians ware good but we ourselves ware better. We had guns and they had airbows. The war existed for an hour. We and the Indians thought that it is impossible to defeat each other. Then we laid down our armors. And then we became friends.

British Columbia 1835 Hi chief,

I am six years old now, and I will be come a chief, a great leader.

Today I will tell you what I do these days. Today on morning when I got up I prepared myself for the hunting. We are going to hunt moose.

I am so nervous. It’s my first day to go hunting. When I and my dad prepare ourselves, my dad says it is the best to hunt in the forest.

When we were going in the forest it was absolutely quiet. So suddenly, a moose was running towards my father. I took the spear and chucked the spear on the moos, and I killed the moose.

That was my first hunting, and I was so happy. My dad was so happy when I was hunting the moose. When we were came home we ate the moose, and I told my first hunting to my family. And I will become a great chief and great leader.

Hello!!! Do you remember me? If you don’t then I will tell you some things in this letter. So when you see us then you don’t need to kill us. So if you see a man with the traditional dress style, then he dresses with a cloth of deerskin in the summer, deerskin leggings and a full piece deerskin shirt in the winter. Several shell strand earrings, shell necklaces, long fashioned hair and moccasins on their feets. If you see a Mohawk woman, then the style consists of them going topless in the summer with a shirt of deerskin. And in colder seasons, women wore a full woodland deerskin dress, leather tied underwear, long fashioned hair or a braid and bear grease. And they have moccasins on their feets. The traditional style of a Mohawk child was nothing up to age of thirteen. After the age of thirteen the boys were ready for war, and the girls were seen as women. But if you come and see us, then it’s most likely the women and children at home because we might be in the forest and hunt food for the day. Or we might be out at war. As you remember we are in war very often. And if you come when we are gone then you can’t talk to anybody, because it’s just me and the men with the highest rank under me who can speak English. The biggest population in Canada is around the state of Quebec and Ontario.

4

I have a vision that we will be a large community in the future. I saw that we will be the best building workers in the whole world. And we will build the highest skyscrapers ever; it will be called the Empire State Building. We don’t fear heights or dangerous conditions. But the wages were lower than others’ and Limited Labour Union Membership.

Message from Isaac Brock 8/5/1815 Hello Mother! I’m in Canada now and the war is over. I’m probably never going back to Great Britain. When I was on the way to Canada I was missing you very much but now I’ve found a very beautiful wife. Her name is Frida I’m going to marry her. I’m very sorry to say this, my brother, your son, has been killed. He died when the Americans attacked the British merchant vessel in Chesapeake Bay in 1812. I tried to save him but it was hopeless because he got shot in the chest. You’re probably wonder how the war was going and I’m going to tell you now. The war started when we, Great Britain was at war against France. We wanted to stop the business between France and the USA. That was one of the reasons why the war started. The Usa declared war in 1812. One of the popular battles was in Chesapeake Bay in 1812. The British soldiers burned down the White House and the Capitolium. The Americans ended the fire and employed mercenaries and succeeded to attack The British merchant vessel. It was a really brutal, and I lost my brother in that battle. The Year 1814 The British and the Americans decided to declare that war was over. That was my story. I’m going to miss you. Take care, bye! Best regards Isaac Brock. Dear Mum When you see this letter I probably am already gone. I couldn’t come to see you before I was leaving, I couldn’t see your face cause I know just looking at you, would change my mind, but I have to. I have to do this. I join the French Army to try and save our colony in Canada. Because the stupid British people are not satisfied with the country they have, they just have to have everything.

I think I have told you about the French people in Canada. The colony is in the east of Canada and its called Quebec. More than 7 million people live there. I know you probably think I’m crazy and helping the army is a mistake, but I can’t. I just can’t watch the British people try to take our country. It has been our colony for a long time since 1534, so why should they just try and take it now. I promise you I will be careful and try to do my best, please try and explain everything to dad.

Right now I am on the way up to Montreal, after a hard time of training and getting my figure as strong as possible, to try and help people. Montreal is the biggest city in Quebec, the colony, and a lot of people live there. It’s very cold here and there is snow everywhere. I think I have never seen a town so white. Montreal is also the second largest city in Canada.

We have just arrived to a place a few miles from Montreal. The place is a mess, it’s as they have burned down the whole place, and it’s so tragic to even watch it. We could not do anything so we continued to the next place.

8

The next day we found the British army. They had all been waiting for us. They were all standing on the hill a few meters in front of us. We were standing on the other side. Suddenly me and my friends started to laugh because, if you look at our clothes we are pretty much dressed in the same way. We both have a red or a green coat, a black hat and a pair of black high boots. Suddenly we started to scream and all at once we ran towards each other, and the war began…

The war lasted for 7 year that’s why it’s called “Seven Years War”. We lost the fight against the British people, so we lost our colony in Canada. But that doesn’t matter because the people there still speak French even if the British people have the colony.

I’m not going to tell you any details about how it went, but one think I can say is, I’m on my way home.

Your son Lucas

Dear Mia Here I am, around the Hudson Bay in Northeast Canada. The war is going to end. It seems like I am coming home soon, but it’s still not sure.

We have travelled a lot through British, French and American colonies. We had many encounters, especially with the French army. Some of them were really though and many men died or where hurt. The sight of all dead lying on the field was frightening. I had many nightmares about the war.

I am thinking about the kids a lot. What would you do if I didn’t come home? Our colonies have grown and the French have started to give up.

To survive is still a big problem. I have now been here for almost 10 years, but the climate is still the same. It is very cold, and it is snowing nearly every day. It was hard to adapt oneself, but I am now used to it. To sleep in small huts doesn’t make the thing better.

We have to be very economical with the food. The other day, me and Jack, were on our way to the enemies camp. We were going to steal food. On our way back, Jack tripped and fell to the ground. The French soldiers have started to catch up on us. Jack limped and had hard to run. The French came closer and closer. I had a knife in my belt, so I turned around and threw it against the two French soldiers who were running behind. I hit the one who was running on the left side, in the stomach. He fell to the ground. The other one was pissed off and started to run faster after us. He quickly caught up to us. I had to fight against him because Jack was hurt. It was one

10

of the most terrible fights I had ever had in my life, but finally I got a hit that made him unconscious. I and Jack could easy take us back to our camp.

Back in the camp they took good care of Jack. I was really proud to have saved the life of both myself and Jack. In the evening we had a quite large meal. While we were eating, the General appointed me the team’s bravest warrior. I was really happy.

I long to come home and I hope I will soon. Hugs and kisses from William 25/09/1735

Hello mother and father, I have changed name to Erik Gustav Davis. I am tiny and tall. I have long black beard and long bright hair. I am thirty now and much in my life had changed very much.

I live in a small timber cottage, about two thousand meters over the sea on Rocky Mountains in south Canada. I live here with my wife Emma Davis. She is twenty five years old. Emma has tall black hair and she is tiny and short.

Emma comes all the way from Montreal. She is a dressmaker in the little village five miles from our timber cottage. She lives in the village in the week and comes home on the holidays. She didn’t earn so much money so we are very poor.

We must have warm clothes because the temperature can be 6,8 f but is really warm in the summer. It can be up to 82,4f. I have a big shotgun because of the wolves, big horn sheep, toads and big grizzly bears.

We also hunting to get food. Deer meat is really expensive so we sell the meat on the big market in the village. For the money we buy a good roof that hold out water because it is raining about five hundred millimetres a year.

We have really nice firewood that it is called larchtree, spruce and pine. My timbercottage is built of pine.

We have to grow our own food for examples potatoes, tomatoes, corn, grain and wheat.

14

But is really hard to grow. The ground almost consist of only sand But we did really nice beer of grain. The beer we get we sell on the market.

We also have two horses, two calves and cows. From the sheep we get wool of that we get warm clothes. From the cows we get milk from we made butter and cheese. The horses transport all the things we get to the market.

I also create weapons for the villagers. I create axes and spears of flintstones, animal bones and larch-tree. I also create bows. I use bows when I hunt fish. The arrow is made of flinstone, wood and feathers. I almost forget, me and Emma have a little son. His name is Alex Davis He is one and a half year and he is so cute. Alex has just taken his first steps. He has curly black hair and blue eyes. Alex can make some little noises. But he can¨t say anything that is like words. In a few years I will have a work on the big farm down the mountains. If I can have a job. We can have a house in the village. If we can do it Alex can go in the school and learn a lot of things. I hope we can meet sometimes. It should be really nice. Greetings from Erik, Emma and Alex 1871/07/30

Hello dear mother I live in the beautiful country Canada. I have a little house by the boarder to Alaska. I have a dog. He’s my best friend. We don’t have any neighbour, only the wild-life.

The wild-life here in Canada is peaceful. I have seen bears, deers and many other animals. When I and Dog are out in the forest, the animals won’t hide, they just stare. I work as a forester here in the forest. It’s fun to work in the forest. I meet so many animals and tourists, that when I come home I’m so tired so I go directly to bed.

When I lived in Sweden, I have been a rich man. But I didn’t like the rich men life, so I moved to Canada to get some peace. The wild-life in Sweden and Canada are nearly the same. We have the same kind of animals and nearly the same kind of trees. Sweden and Canada have almost the same climate. In Canada, the winter comes very early. In the evenings, I and Dog are watching the Northern light.

I fought in the World War 2. I worked as a radio-operator for the British,Canadian and American armies. I have been in the Pacific, France and Germany. I saw a lot of scary things. I still have nightmares. I lost two of my best friends. One time when we stormed a farm in France, we thought it was safe. But then the next second, a German soldier jumped out from his hiding place and shot Charlie. Then when we were in Holland, we got pinned behind a US tank.

After the war I got a job in the radio business. Later I was sent to Vietnam to talk, sing and play music for the US troops. When I had been on the base for a while, our radio-station got attacked by the NVA. It was the beginning of the Tet offensive. The NVA stormed the biggest 16

city's in Vietnam. US troops casualties got higher and higher. More and more troops where deployed to Vietnam, but this was a war the US couldn’t win. The USA blamed Russia for supplying NVA and Vietcong with weapons, ammo and explosives. Russian denied everything that USA blamed them for. The USA tried to spy on Russia, but the couldn't prove anything. I got out of Vietnam without any damages, but my video guy didn’t survive. I’m glade, that I was not a soldier in the Vietnam.

We I got home to my beatiful home, my freinds told me that my wife was dead. I cried so much, so you could fill two OS pools. Later that day,I and my dog went to her grave. It was beautiful. Now it it only me and Dog left. I have to cook myself, I have to paint the house myself. It’s very lonely now. But I got my dog of course. Now I know that it is very lonely here in the wasteland.

Many greetings Chuck Källa: www.sv.wikipedia.org

Hello my Dear! I want to tell you what I do right now and what happened to me when I was going polar bear hunting. I live in east Canada so I must walk a long way. I know the way because of Lucy. Lucy is my dog and she is 4 years old. She is very good at sniffing and she always finds the way. I went away to north Canada. It took 3 days to come there and when we were there, we took a snooze so we were strong and happy when we were going to start the hunting. When we woke up, we started search for food. It didn’t take long because of Lucy. We or she found a bush with berries on. We ate a lot but we were still hungry but now we had enough energy to start hunting. We were going a long way and we “climbed” up on the Ice Mountains. We searched everywhere for polar bears until we met Jackie. Jackie is an old friend of mine so I was so glad to see her again. She was going home to the Rocky Mountains. We had company a bit then we were going different ways. Sad but that’s life. We said goodbye and we started to walk again. The nature here is so lovely. It’s pretty white here but when the sun shines on it, like today, it’s so beautiful. I just love studding it. When we had finished studding it, we were going to sleep. We woke up next day after a calm night. Today we must find a polar bear so we could go home. I was so hungry so first we found some food. We found food so we ate a lot. After that we were on our trip again. This time we certainly had to find and shot a bear.

18

When we were walking among the Ice Mountains we suddenly saw a bear, a polar bear. I just felt so happy. I was so happy so the bear saw me. It started to run. We run after. Suddenly it turned around and started to run towards us. I shot at the bear but it didn’t stop. I shot again and again until the bear knocked down my weapon. It stood on two legs over me. I was so scared. I was thinking how much I want to meet you again and the rest of my family. When I was lying suddenly Lucy jumped up and scared the bear away. I’m so proud of her. Now I’m sitting here on the mountain and I’m thinking of what happened to me. Now I just want to come home. I have decided to give up, but first, before I come home, we shall find some food and sleep. When I come home I want to meet you because I miss you so much. I send you a letter when I come home. See ya! xoxoxo Christine

Alberta’s largest city and major disturbution and the transportation hub is Calgary. Alberta has 3632483 invaders. Alberta is a province of Canada. It had an estimated population of 3,7 million in 2010 making in the most populous of Canada’s three praire provinces. Hello! My name is Brian Scott and I am 30 years old and I’ll tell you about my vacation in Cypress Hills Provincial Park in Canada in Alberta. I live in Alberta and I have lived here 10 years. Before I came to Canada I lived in Germany. I am German by the way.

21

Here I am camping in the woods in Cypress Hills Provincial Park with my dearest friend Amanda. Me and Amanda have been friends since elementary school. If I can express myself more clearly, we are more than just friends, we are partners. It is our first day in Cypress Hills provincial Park for me and my partner Amanda. It’s getting late so we are starting to putt up the tent and light a fire so we can roast marshmallow’s and cuddle until it is time to go and sleep. I wake up and hear the birds sing and the sky is perfectly clear and blue and I also see the mountains around. Amanda had already woken up a long time ago, she had been and walked for a while. She told me that she had seen a waterfall and that she really wanted to go there. We went to the waterfall, and it was incredible beautiful. I have never seen anything like it before. We were there for a while and came to our tent. Once we arrived, we saw two bears. They had found our food and ate up everything. We waited a little further until they had gone. When the bears were gone, we went to the tent and everything was destroyed and debris everywhere. We had nothing left to eat or drink. Amanda asked me : - What are we going to do? Then I got an idea,- We can hunt. -Can you hunt? asked Amanda. -Yes, I did learn in school how to do it. It is quite difficult. - All right then. I look forward to how this will go for us.

22

The sun starting to go down, and we had to find a place to sleep. We started to walk. We went a big way until we found a small cottage. We went into the cottage and it looked pretty nice. We made ourselves comfortable and fell asleep right away. I woke up the next morning. It was really early. I was going to hunt. I put on my clothes and went into the woods. This teeming of wild-deer, bears and other furbearing animals. In lakes and rivers were there plenty of fish. I think that it will be fish for dinner. I start walking towards the lake and aside the lake was a small fishing boat. I sat on it and began to row. When I was finished with the fishing trip, I came home and started to cook the food and start eating right away. I fished a lot of fish because I knew we were starving and we ate it all up. After I was done fishing I picked some blueberries and crush them so we could drink it. When we had finished eating, we went for a walk. We picked lots of mushrooms, berries and cones. After the walk we went back to the cottage. And then we started to pack our things and then get back to our home. Thanks for listening to my camping holiday trip. Bye!

Rocky Mountains

Dear mother, right now I’m in the middle of nowhere, so it’s pretty hard to say exactly where I am. But I know that I’m in east of the Rocky Mountains. I’ve been here a couple of days. I can see the big mountains from here, it’s really nice. I have decided to go there and explore it very soon. I live in a village. It’s not so big but it works perfectly for me because I live alone here, so it’s very peaceful and I like it a lot. Rocky Mountains is a mountain range In West North America that stretches from Rio Grande in New Mexico, to Liard River in British Columbia. The highest point of this mountain range exists in Colorado, USA. The highest point of the mountain

24

range is about 4401 metres. It’s called Mount Elbert. Here are some national parks, one of them is called Yellowstone national park. I think you would like this place as much as I do, so next time you can come here with me if you want to. I’m so hungry right now and I don’t have so much food left and also water. As we both know, there are no shops out here, so I can’t buy any food either. But I’m lucky that I have a fishing rod so I maybe can catch some fish in the lake. By the way, I have found a big village not so far from here. Maybe the people that live there can give me some, if they are nice. I really miss everything at home but I like this place too. I don’t know how long I will stay here, but I think a may some help or a map, because I actually don’t really know where I am exactly, as I said before. It’s pretty hot here and I wouldn’t expect that before I came here. Now it’s evening and the sun is beautiful from here. I will send you a little picture too, so you can see it from my view. It’s good that there is a mailbox here so I can post this to you. 25

Well, it’s time for me to go to bed and sleep, because tomorrow it’s a new day. See you soon! Kisses & hugs from Jackie.

Hello Emma! It’s fun to finally write to you, my new pen pal. Yes, you’re right I am a real indian. I am one of the last indians on the earth, there are only 2,5 milions indians left in the USA and Canada together. And 3% of Canada’s population are indians. Todays indians work on ordinary workplaces like casinos and construction sites. In the USA there are over 80 succesfully casinos.

Me and my tribe live north of the St. Lawrence river in Canada. The river is 3058 km long. My tribe is called Adirondack. Todays indians are modern and we use new things for example computers and mobile phones.

Yesterday when I walked in the forest with my little sister we were attacked by a bear, so I took my tomahawk and throw at the bear heart.

Did you know that the USA and British army still use the tomahawk? But the tomahawk that the army uses is made of light weight metal and is smaller. The tomahawk is usual 61cm long and made of maple, ash or hickory. A tomahawk is a throwing weapon or you can stab someone with it.

30

And during the World War Two the indians sent encrypted messages to each other, but they did not have to talk encrypted they just had to talk their normal language, because the enemies didn't understand their language.

Have I told you that I’m a son of our indian chief. And some day I will be a indian chief. But I don’t know, some parts of me want to be chief and some parts of me don’t want to be chief. My father decides everything in my tribe. He decides what tent we shall us and what school we shall go to and so on. And if you wonder, yes, we sleep in tents. But when it’s winter and cold we have a little cottage that we live in. And if we want to communicate with another tribe we use smoke signals. Smoke signals consist of long and short smoke clouds. Now I have written a little about myself, so now it’s your turn to write about yourself. I’m so interested in knowing how you live and a little about you family and friends. källa: www.ungafakta.se www.wikipedia.se

An indian in northern Canada 1800 Hi my dear, I miss you. I am in northern Canada. I can not wait to see you. When the tour was beginning we were 1000 people and now after two years we are 3874 people and now we are turning home. Is there a big change in Ontario? It is so ******* cold up here and there is not much food. My mom is sick and my brothers and sisters are not like it up here. On our way to get wine and alcoholic we meet other indian families and the Eskimo people. They have been in northern Canada for 30.000 years. Their ancestors walked over the Siberian ice to Alaska and down to northern Canada. I met your cousin and she misses you so she walks with me down to Ontario so she could say hello to you. We like it up here beside it is cold. The little village we live in got a kingbed, in the finest house on the Mhorari field. Every day we have a tournament, the one who catches the biggest fish or seal win. They win a night in the kingbed. I won yesterday. When we are at home I want to build a kingbed in Ontario. We are home for two weeks and we shall just go to Jhonson state to get joints to all the Indian families. Now when all the hunters are gone someone must fix

food but who? I do not think that you and the other women can be good hunters. I miss the Ontario market where I can get whiskey and the best food to my horse. I really miss you but I have a plan to marry you. And now when we got rights we can be married in a church. And when we are married we can go to Vancouver or South America to my cousin. See you in about two weeks. Kiss Fadi.

How I met my love in Ottawa Ottawa, Canada 6 October 2010

Hello, my name is Zachary Hilton and I am 20 years old. I live in the capital of Canada, Ottawa and Bytown was Ottawa’s early name. The 31th of December 1857 Queen Viktoria decided that Ottawa would be the capital of Canada. Here is really cold now and it’s winter soon. I live in a small apartment but not very small. I speak English and French very well. When I was a little kid my mom used to talk French with me so I’ve learned to talk French. My dad speaks just a little bit of French. He is not that good. In Canada there are people who speak English or French or both as in Ottawa. I work at Starbucks and my job is great. In the evenings I usually go to a nightclub with my friends and have some fun. The last time we were in a nightclub, called Babylon, I met a really beautiful girl. Her name is Angela and she is very kind and funny. She gave me her number and I called her one day and asked her if we could go out on a date and she said yes. I was really happy. We were in a beautiful restaurant called Beckta Dining & Wine. On another day we were in a museum called the History of the Canadian Museum of Civilization. There are many museums in Ottawa and the Canadian War Museum is the most popular museum in Ottawa. Tourism is very important for Ottawa. In the winter, the ice skating rink at Rideau Canal is the most popular tourist attraction and it’s the largest skating rink in the world. I have been there and ice skated once and I was like 14 or 15 years old. We also went to the International Airport Authority Ottawa to go and get my parents because they wanted to see Angela. After that we went to my place and had dinner. My mom and dad liked her and they told me to take really good care of her. They thought Angela was really kind. I told them that I wanted to marry her soon.

Now you know how I met my love. With the warmest greetings from Zachary.

MY LIFE IN ONTARIO My life in Ontario. It’s a simple life. I am Katy and I work at a café every day. A lot of people here are not like mine. I am pretty simple and not so out going. I’m different and I like it that way. A lot of people here are crazy. It’s a big city maybe that’s why. Ontario is the capital of Canada and there live more than 12 million people here. That is about 38 % of the population in Canada. A lot of famous people come from here. Maybe you know them? It’s Justin Bieber, Avril Lavigne and Bryan Adams. It’s rainy today, like a lot of days. Canada has a varying climate. On the summer it’s about 24 degrees and on winter there is snow and pretty cold.

A lot of people come from USA and other countries to see some tourist things. We have the Canada’s National Tower in Ontario. The tower is more than five hundred meters high and it was designed by the architect John Andrews. Yes, and this is probably the most of Ontario. ! Bye bye !:) Källor : sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ontario
