ISLAND HIGHLIGHTS

Kware Imal

Kwareżimal is a traditional Maltese sweet pastry that is typically eaten during Lent. The name is derived from the Maltese word "quaresima," which means "Lent." It is made with a mixture of ground almonds, flour, and honey or sugar, along with spices such as cinnamon and nutmeg. The mixture is shaped into small cakes or cookies and baked until golden brown.

Milk Thistle

A walk in the countryside is perfect to work off some calories; look out for these beauties on your way. The Silybum Marianum, or more commonly, Milk Thistle, grows wild in low soil areas, and can reach up to 200cm in height. It is thought to have medicinal properties for various conditions but is toxic to cattle and sheep.

Diving

Diving in Malta is another way to immerse yourself in history. Many wrecks are submerged below the water, some placed strategically, remnants from the past, giving divers a whole new side to see of Malta and Gozo. Many registered schools offer trial lessons and rent equipment.

Saluting Battery

The Saluting Battery is a wonderful vantage point to view The Three Cities and The Grand Harbour. These canons are cared for by WirtArtna who curate other properties and places of interest. The canons are fired daily.

Easter Processions

Numerous processions are held around the island; the Three Cities and Żebbug are the most famed. Here, villagers come together to create reenactments in full costume which take place over Easter Sunday.

CALYPSO’S CAVE

This has to be one of Gozo’s most instagrammable spots. Calypso’s Cave is located in a cliff near Xagħra; overlooking Ramla Bay. It is famed for being the same cave Homer mentioned in `The Odyssey' where Calypso, the beautiful nymph, kept Odysseus as a `prisoner of love' for 7 years.
