IL-BIZZILLA TALKS TO

Carmen Cuschieri

HEAD OF CABIN CREW AND IN-FLIGHT SERVICE - IN-FLIGHT MANAGER

– CABIN CREW INSTRUCTOR – CHECK IN-FLIGHT MANAGER

HOW LONG HAVE YOU WORKED AT AIR MALTA AND IN WHAT ROLES?

I joined Air Malta in April 1987 and have progressed from Cabin Crew, Inflight Manager, Cabin Crew instructor, Check Inflight Manager and Head of Cabin Crew and Inflight Services since 1st June 2022.

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT YOUR CURRENT ROLE?

Being involved in decisions that are seeing Air Malta evolving into a more efficient airline.

AND WHAT’S THE MOST CHALLENGING ASPECT?

I am currently involved in several projects, mainly preparing for the busy summer season. Also, in my department, I have the biggest group of staff reporting to me. Most of the time catching up with everything is the main challenge.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO IN YOUR FREE TIME?

In my free time I enjoy playing tennis. On weekends I try spending time with my family. We do a lot of gardening, go for long walks, cooking and eating together.

WHICH IS YOUR FAVOURITE EUROPEAN DESTINATION AND WHY?

I like the main European cities for different reasons, Paris and Prague and I like the cultural vibe of the cities, Rome for the ancient history, London for shopping and musicals, Amsterdam for its relaxed vibe. From these 5 I don’t have a favourite. It depends on the time of the year and what I would be looking for. Nowadays, when I go abroad, I mainly seek to have a break from everyday life and would want to have a relaxed break with good food and good company.

WHICH IS YOUR FAVOURITE DESTINATION YOU HAVE VISITED AND WHY?

My favourite would be Prague because I was not expecting to find such a lovely city. The entertainment in the streets, musicians and artists performing on the streets, the cobbled streets, the castles, it’s amazing.

DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE LANGUAGE?

Apart from the Maltese language I speak English, German and some Italian. Being a cabin crew for such a long time one starts understanding other languages and learning commonly used phrases. My favourite has to be English, since it the language I can communicate easily in with in the ambience I work in.

FAVOURITE GENRE OF MUSIC?

DREAM HOLIDAY DESTINATION?

WHERE WOULD YOU RECOMMEND VISITING WITHIN THE MALTESE ISLANDS?

My favourite cities in Malta are Valletta and Mdina.

FAVOURITE MALTESE EXPRESSION?

. My motto is: Try and enjoy the present and never look back with regrets.
