Meadows often means an exciting trip to one of BC’s most popular parks, Golden Ears Provincial Park. The Golden Ears, so named for two pronounced mountain peaks, dominate the northern landscape and offer stunning views, all day long, in every season.

Get Camping! Golden Ears visit to Maple Provincial Park Ridge and Pitt

Camping Backcountry and walk-in camping is permitted at several locations within the park, but no facilities are provided. Vehicle-accessible campsites can be found at Gold Creek, Alouette Lake and North Beach. BC Parks has a reservation system for all three campsites, as well as for two group campsites. Visit env.gov.bc.ca/bcparks for more information.

Trailblazing

28

As one of the largest parks in the province, Golden Ears Provincial Park is prized for its recreational opportunities. The extensive system of trails within the park provide excellent opportunities for cycling, hiking and horseback riding, with trails ranging from short self-guided interpretive walks to long backcountry and mountain climbing treks. The highest concentration of trails is located in the southern portion of the park. Watch for signs that indicate which activity each trail is designated for. Adjacent to Golden Ears Park is the Malcolm Knapp Research Forest, which contains almost every type of terrain found in the lower coastal region of BC. It’s wonderful network of hiking trails passes through a mossy, forested environment of Douglas-fir, western red cedar and western hemlock.

Fun at the Lake Alouette Lake is a popular spot for swimming, windsurfing, water-skiing, canoeing, boating and fishing. The south end of the lake also has a picnic site. Freshwater fishing is also available at Mike Lake and Gold Creek. Anyone fishing or angling in British Columbia must have an appropriate license. There is one four-lane cement surface boat launch at the south end of Alouette Lake. Overnight parking is available for vehicles and trailers, but there is no nearby marina to moor boats overnight. Waterskiing is permitted.
