The modern world can be an intimidating place to be, but the books from David C. Cook make life a little less daunting. Their books provide contemporary views on Christianity, from Bible studies to novels and everything in between. With useful self-help books and spiritual guides to everyday living, readers from all walks of life will find wisdom.

1. BE Series

Warren W. Wiersbe is famous for his relatable Bible studies, and the BE series encapsulates that. Each book is named for a different goal, like being authentic, being diligent and being ready. The goal is paired with a book or verse from the Bible to create a seamless connection between Jesus’s lessons and daily life.

2. 86 Bloomberg Place Series

Moving in with roommates you met through an ad is always a gamble. In the 86 Bloomberg Place series, Melody Carlson pens the story of four girls brought together under the same roof, even though they’ve never met before. They all have their reasons for taking the risk, and it doesn’t take long for the hilarity to ensue.

3. Raising Children

We learn how to be parents from the examples set for us, but what are parents of today supposed to do now that iPhones, Kindles and selfies are the norm? And how the heck do they maintain their family’s religious values through it all? This collection gathers useful books on how to raise children in a Christian family in today’s Nikki Palazzo, the Training Manager at BiblioLabs, much enjoys chatting with librarians during her online training sessions and basking in the abundance of quirky eyeglass frames at conferences. In her free time, she writes and reads YA lit and waits, ever-patiently, for her Hogwarts acceptance letter.

Biblical Comics: 12th-Century BCE Stories in 21st-Century CE Formats By: Nikki Palazzo

When I started going to Catholic school in the ninth grade, I was excited about the comfortable uniforms, the friendly classmates, and the extra days off for religious holidays. I had all but forgotten that this meant I’d need to take a class about religion. We read from the Bible in class, and I found it interesting, but very dense and challenging, so boy do I wish I’d had this Bible Stories series from Kingstone Media! By putting Biblical scenes into comic book form, Kingstone has revolutionized the way kids approach religion. Not only is the story translated into modern English with a fun flair, specific excerpts are quoted directly—and the images are epic. The first time I opened this book up, I could barely scroll fast enough to keep up with the fast-paced story, so

I had to double-back and read it again—this time slowing down to appreciate the art. Moses overlooks the village while sunlight streams down from heaven above. Samson and his friends haul wood in the heat. Samson is attacked by a lion in rich gold hues that turn pale when the lion is defeated. A battle wages on in the blue light of the night. The characters leap off the page, and suddenly, what my high school self saw as an intimidating Bible passage is now an action movie in my head. This book, and the other ones like it from Kingstone, are perfect for anyone who wants a fresh take on their favorite verses.

What’s Your Sign? ASTROLOGY FOR EVERYONE By: Jessica Duggan

It’s said that in its most general sense, the science of Astrology simply refers to the search for human meaning in the sky. And since the dawn of time, people have been looking to the stars for answers. Around the 2nd millennium BC, the first organized system of astrology came about, now referred to as Babylonian astrology. Reference works contained information about “celestial omens,” the lunar cycles, seasons and fate. Since then, the Ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans, along with scientists in China, India, the Middle East and everywhere in between have noted various peculiarities within the stars and celestial cycles. The most pervasive of those ideas remains widely practiced and studied today— the Zodiac. There are thousands of books that explain the many aspects of the astrological signs and what they may mean to you, but none quite like Learning
