We Love Laughing While Learning Our Letters Queen Quail is Quiet and Other ABC Tongue Twisters By Jonah Canter

We all know “Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers” and “Sally sells seashells by the sea shore.” While they’re fun to hear my 2-year-old attempt, it’s good to have some alternative tongue twisters made for young pronouncers. Queen Quail is Quiet brings just that. My son and I laugh together while reading this colorful book of ABC tongue twisters— both at him trying his hardest to say things like “giant bunny wears gloves and gives gifts” and at the comical scenarios various fruits and animals find themselves in. (“Koala cuddles his kosher ketchup” gets me every time.)

AB C

It’s really a win-win. He loves the illustrations and the funny phrases, and I love that he’s reading, learning the alphabet and spending time with me all at the same time. We may not all remember every part of “Peter Piper,” but I hope my son never forgets spending time with me and chuckling along to “Otter has one tooth and wears orange socks.” I know I won’t.

Favorites

Calee M. Lee was inspired to start Xist Publishing: Books for the Touchscreen Generation after she and her 4-year-old had a disappointing experience reading early eBooks for children with small images and misaligned text. After some hard work, Xist Publishing was born and continues to deliver a quality children’s book e-reading experience to children and their parents everywhere. Calee took some time to recommend some of her favorite titles from the Xist Publishing collection:

We’re Going to the Farm

Author Nancy Streza developed the idea for We’re Going to the Farm while driving her two grandchildren to her own rural home. Set to the cadence of “The Farmer in the Dell”, this beautifully illustrated book is a fun and multicultural read.

The Zebra Said Shhh

Facing a bedtime battle common to many parents, author M. R. Nelson developed a calming story that she repeated to her daughter every single night. The rhythmic lines that became The Zebra Said Shhh relaxed her little one and has been embraced by parents ever since.

Discover Series

Designed for babies and toddlers, these simple books promote interaction between adults and young children. When little ones want to play with phones, tablets and computers, Discover Series books provide an educational and age-appropriate platform for discussion.

Calee M. Lee is the CEO of Xist Publishing. Xist’s

mission is to help children develop a lifetime love of reading—no matter what form it takes. Xist is a digital-first publisher for children that places eBooks as a top priority.

Bonding with Bearful By Cara Abt

I have two young daughters who love story time. It’s easy to find cute books for bedtime that lull them to sleep, but it’s sometimes a challenge to find fun stories that can get them excited about reading regardless of the time of day.

With playful rhymes and beautiful illustrations, this book is certainly a keeper. My girls love “grooving” along with Bearful, and I even catch myself chuckling at Bearful’s attempts at rolling with Peggy Pig—“belly up, belly down, belly up, belly down.”

I was in luck when I found Bearful Bear and His New Moves. It’s the most adorable story about a young bear who loves to move. He travels across the forest and the farm to learn how other animals get around.

Best of all, not only are my girls laughing and dancing along with Bearful the whole way through, they almost always follow up the last page with “what can we read next?”

Bearful “finds his groove” through flying with Rosie Robin, galloping with Harry Horse, swimming with Sally Salmon and through various other activities with the help of his friends. 8 BiblioBoard Catalog
