GASTRONOMY

TRADITIONS VERDIALES

CARNIVAL

Manifestation of village tradition comprising a dance, a song and music played with violins,lute, cymbals and tambourines. Musicians wear a typical hat decorated with ribbons, flowers, mirrors, beads etc.

Celebrations are held for ten days around Ash Wednesday. Choirs and singing bands in creative costumes participate in a contest with witty, satirical songs. Gods and goddesses are chosen and parade through the city centre.

AUGUST FAIR

MÁLAGA AUGUST FAIR This festivity commemorates the conquest of the city by the Catholic Monarchs on the 19th of August in 1497. It begins with a magnificent sound, light, firework display. The city is transformed into a huge street party with music, dancing and wine tasting.

HOLY WEEK Solemn parades of religious art figures known as 'tronos' take place throughout the city centre each evening. The figures are masterpieces of Spanish religious art. Members of each brotherhood carry on their shoulders floats with the sculpture of their Christ and Virgin. It commemorates the Passion of Christ. MALAGUEÑAS

It is a genuinely Málaga dance accompanied by songs praising the city and its people. It appeared in the 19th century with roots in the Fandango.
