f o r m at i o n SPECIALIZED INITIATIVES The Boys & Girls Clubs has several specialized initiatives that help us focus our mission to support the youth who need us most. Each initiative is supported by targeted programming and dedicated staff.
TEEN ENGAGEMENT & ADVOCACY Today’s teens face tough challenges. We know that when we reach teens, we make a dramatic impact on their lives. Our Clubs offer teens their own space within the Club as well as custom teen focused programs such as Career Launch and Diplomas 2 Degrees. Dedicated, professional staff understand the needs of teens and serve as mentors and advocates to help teens to navigate the challenges they may face.
STE A M
(Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math)
Our young people are growing up in a world where the fastest growing career opportunities are in the STEM industries. According to the US Department of Commerce, STEM occupations are projected to grow 17.0 percent from 2008 to 2018, compared to just 9.8 percent growth for nonSTEM occupations. At the Boys & Girls Clubs we have special programs designed to help give youth an edge in the STEM academic and career worlds. We also know that creativity is at the heart of ingenuity and invention, so we include a wide variety of fine, performing and digital arts programs.
MISSION YOUTH OUTREACH The D.C. Metro area is located right in the heart of our nation’s military community. Nationwide and around the world, Clubs are located both on and off base and can usually be found where military families live. Boys & Girls Clubs provide a safe place for military children to learn and grow. All Clubs offer similar programming, structure and caring supportive staff helping to provide continuity and structure for children whose lives may be impacted by a great deal of change. Through Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s Mission Youth Outreach Program, we are able to offer free memberships for active, guard and reserve military families.
Special Events & C Join us for ICON 15, our fall fundraising event showcasing the talents of our youth! With an expected guest list of 400 of Washington’s premiere arts influencers, non – profit leaders, child advocates, sponsors and funders, we know this year’s gala will be a night to remember!

Over 10,000 kids a year rely on Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington to help them have a better tomorrow. The greatest gift you can give an underrepresented young person in the District of Columbia, Virginia and Maryland area, is the gift of a great future. Possible events may be: in-Club holiday events, holiday crafting with Club members, toy/winter clothing donations, holiday meals and corporate service days and many others. ion Continued OUR MISSION The mission of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington is to help boys and girls of all backgrounds, especially those who need us most, build confidence, develop character and acquire the skills needed to become productive, civic-minded, responsible adults.
ABOUT US BGCGW’s 14 sites—covering a territory of 75 miles that stretches from Manassas to Germantown—serve as safe havens for our members. The Clubs are open when schools are not, and provide a safe, comfortable, and fun alternative to youth who would otherwise be home alone or on the street. Over 1,300 youth attend the Clubs for activities every day, to see their friends, and to spend time with positive and encouraging adults. Clubs are open after school on weekdays. Some have Saturday hours, and many offer full days during school holidays and summers. Clubs welcome every child, adolescent, or teenager for a nominal annual membership fee, but will not turn any child away for inability to pay.
