f o r m at i o n SPECIALIZED INITIATIVES The Boys & Girls Clubs has several specialized initiatives that help us focus our mission to support the youth who need us most. Each initiative is supported by targeted programming and dedicated staff.

TEEN ENGAGEMENT & ADVOCACY Today’s teens face tough challenges. We know that when we reach teens, we make a dramatic impact on their lives. Our Clubs offer teens their own space within the Club as well as custom teen focused programs such as Career Launch and Diplomas 2 Degrees. Dedicated, professional staff understand the needs of teens and serve as mentors and advocates to help teens to navigate the challenges they may face.

STE A M

(Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math)

Our young people are growing up in a world where the fastest growing career opportunities are in the STEM industries. According to the US Department of Commerce, STEM occupations are projected to grow 17.0 percent from 2008 to 2018, compared to just 9.8 percent growth for nonSTEM occupations. At the Boys & Girls Clubs we have special programs designed to help give youth an edge in the STEM academic and career worlds. We also know that creativity is at the heart of ingenuity and invention, so we include a wide variety of fine, performing and digital arts programs.

MISSION YOUTH OUTREACH The D.C. Metro area is located right in the heart of our nation’s military community. Nationwide and around the world, Clubs are located both on and off base and can usually be found where military families live. Boys & Girls Clubs provide a safe place for military children to learn and grow. All Clubs offer similar programming, structure and caring supportive staff helping to provide continuity and structure for children whose lives may be impacted by a great deal of change. Through Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s Mission Youth Outreach Program, we are able to offer free memberships for active, guard and reserve military families.

C L U B I N F O R M AT I O N GIVE THE GIFT OF A GREAT FUTURE DEC. 1, 2015– JAN. 4, 2016 For more than 128 years, we have provided Great Futures for all young people who enter our doors, especially those who need us most. Throughout the year, we are given the gift of amazing kids who come into our Clubs every day and share with us their stories of determination, triumph, and perseverance. Over 10,000 kids a year rely on Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington to help them have a better tomorrow. The greatest gift you can give an underrepresented young person in the District of Columbia, Virginia and Maryland area, is the gift of a great future. You can join in this season and help us “Give the Gift of a Great Future” to the kids in our community. Click here to make a gift for Great Futures!

DECEMBER 1, 2015 — DECEMBER 12, 2015 Corporate partners and donors are invited to sponsor an event benefiting our Clubs. Possible events may be: in-Club holiday events, holiday crafting with Club members, toy/winter clothing donations, holiday meals and corporate service days and many others. During each day of the 12 Days of Giving, BGCGW will spotlight partners and their generous gifts towards Great Futures.

ANNUAL GIVING CAMPAIGN Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington serves nearly 12,000 youth a year through membership and community outreach programs at 14 sites throughout the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia. Over 1,100 youth enter our Clubs each day throughout the school year and serve a population of whom nearly half live at or below poverty (qualify for free or reduced lunch and single-parent homes). The opportunity is here to make a lasting difference in the life of a child. A united voice can relay wisdom that resonates for generations. Our Clubs can give hope to an entire community. YOU can open the door to a brighter tomorrow for more children at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington.

ion Continued OUR MISSION The mission of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington is to help boys and girls of all backgrounds, especially those who need us most, build confidence, develop character and acquire the skills needed to become productive, civic-minded, responsible adults.

ABOUT US BGCGW’s 14 sites—covering a territory of 75 miles that stretches from Manassas to Germantown—serve as safe havens for our members. The Clubs are open when schools are not, and provide a safe, comfortable, and fun alternative to youth who would otherwise be home alone or on the street. Over 1,300 youth attend the Clubs for activities every day, to see their friends, and to spend time with positive and encouraging adults. Clubs are open after school on weekdays. Some have Saturday hours, and many offer full days during school holidays and summers. Clubs welcome every child, adolescent, or teenager for a nominal annual membership fee, but will not turn any child away for inability to pay.
