Syama Varma (2009 Batch) secured All India Rank 145 in GATE CS 2011 Congratulations to XMEC Social Assist(XSA) for raising 2 Lakh to provide scholarships to 6 students at Model Engineering College. It is through the act of empowering the students of today to be the better citizens of tomorrow that a community progresses -- be it a nation or a college. And what better way to nurture a worthy student than to take the financial burden out of their lives -- during their academic pursuits -- and allow them to concentrate more on their studies? What better way to help the students of a fraternity, of which we were all part of? Lets join together in congratulating this terrific achievement by XSA in favor of our students. Let it be a guide, a standard to which everyone compares himself to. Let this inspire others, all of us, to contribute whatever we can to make MEC the crowning jewel of Kerala, the academic haven where every aspiring Engineer wants to go. Lets inspire more of us to say, "I'm a MECian. Can you beat that ?". The donation drive for scholarships for next academic year would begin in May and on behalf of XMEC-SA, we request all xMECians to contribute to the fund.

Biomedical '90-'94

I went to MEC... This month we are meeting Mr. Vinod Mohan, who is working as Systems Engineering Group Manager at NVIDIA, Bangalore. Vinod is an alumnus from the Class of 1995 Biomedical batch. How has your career progressed after passing out of MEC? 1995-2000: worked for Wipro GE Medical systems in Ultrasound field. Worked in the board repair centre, national tech support and ultrasound design team. 2001-2005: Board design engineer with Intel India. Started board design groups for 3 divisions in Bangalore. worked on Ethernet switching, Mobile technlogy and Storage controller groups. 2005- present: Setup the Bangalore SysEng team for Nvidia from scratch. Led teams which work on silicon debug and bringup. Worked on PC chipsets and GPUs. Major Achivements. - CEO award in Wirpo GE - About 7 SRA awards and 1 DRA award in Intel. Was the first board designer Intel hired in India - Opened batting for Kerala in Under-13 cricket. - Have run 10K races with best timing of 55m. Most Memorable incident from College? Too many to write here and some are illegal to be written down. Things that come to your mind when you hear MEC Met my wife there, EE1998 batch. So there are good memories in campus. Where do you see yourself five years down the line? Planning to quit the industry and do M-tech in about 5 years. MEC ranked 28th best in india by mint magazine. Your comments... Been coming to the campus for recruitment. But college campus and facilities need to improve. Quality of students is without question very high. Personal Details Married to Malu Raveendran, who is a house wife, and Blessed with 2 children, Meghna Mohan and Dev Nandan Mohan. Hobbies : Running, Music, watching movies on cable. Typical Weekend : With kids and family, eating out.
