The silent gabion

Soundblock is the patented soundproof gabion from Betafence for large infrastructure projects. Thanks to the innovative, absorbing concept of the Soundblock less noise is reflected and less sound permeates through the gabion wall. Like all gabions from Betafence, Soundblock is also extremely versatile, sturdy and durable. Furthermore filled gabions ornament any landscape through their natural aesthetic. And now please be quiet, we are about to begin...

The wall of sound Soundblock can be installed exceptionally quickly and simply through its "fold open and fill" principle. The technique allows us to build creatively, quickly and most importantly cost effectively. The interior compartment, which is not visible from outside, can also be filled at a minimal cost with on site available material or with cheap recycled granular fill such as rubble or crushed brick.

The sound of silence The outerwalls of the Soundblock can be filled with all types of material, from decorative stones to glass and even leaves or twigs. Climbing plants may also be grown over the gabions. The Soundblock elements always form an extremely strong construction thanks to the welded framework that is optimally connected with spirals. A durable and sustainable solution as a silent partner of nature.

Sounds like ® Soundblock Soundblock is the ideal infrastructure solution and fits perfectly within the Betafence gabion range. The system is delivered flat-packed and can be assembled quickly and simply on site. It is extremely efficient and offers a high return in comparison to alternative solutions like concrete walls, ... Up to 6 metres high constructions are possible using a crane. In the same way as the other gabions from Betafence, Soundblock is made from welded wire panels, protected with Zincalu® Ultra* coating for an extra long life. The granular fill central compartment in combination with the outer stonefilled compartments provide the ideal soundproofing action.

1 Preassembled Soundblock is preassembled and available in different mesh sizes. 2 Easy installation Installation is realised in one easy movement on site. Endless constructions are possible in units from 2 to 10 metres! 3 Soundblock core filler Filler bags are used in the central section combating washing away and erosion of the rubble granulate in the gabion. The filler provides the soundproofing Soundblock-effect (minimal transmission). 4 Fill of the outer sections The outside of the Soundblock can be filled with all types of material (from stone to glass and even twigs). Climbing plants may also even be allowed to grow over the side. The choice of material helps to determine the degree of sound absorption.

*Zincalu® Ultra comprises 95% zinc and 5% aluminium. The coating has an average weight of 350 g/m² which guarantees a 3 time longer life than ordinary zinc coating. All the accessories have the same quality to guarantee a maximum life. In compliance with BS EN 10244-2.

The silent gabion

Silence in stereo Betafence Soundblock stands out in effectiveness as a soundproofing solution. The wall forms a sound barrier by absorbing the noise through its insulation effect. The central compartment is used as an active acoustic segment. As a result the transmission of the noise to the other side of the wall is limited. Betafence Soundblock was developed in partnership with Sonorcontrol, a leading and independent scientific laboratory specialised in sound engineering.

A good sound screen prevents sound waves from directly moving from the source to the receiver (path a). The transmission resistance (DLR) of the screen is defined here. However, undesired reflections (path b) may severely reduce the soundproofing effect of the screen. For that reason a good sound absorption (DLa) is required on the sound side of the screen. The sound infiltrates the screen and loses its force through absorption. Reflections are greatly reduced as a result. Because of the long distance (path c) of the sound waves between the source and the top of the Soundblock, it has an active acoustic working by bending the sound. This is also called diffraction.
