LOVE LATIN World Travel Awards – the global initiative to recognize and reward excellence in travel and tourism – has unveiled its Latin America 2020 winners to coincide with its inaugural Latin America Winners Day.
Winners include Chile – with its dazzling array of natural wonders – voted ‘South America’s Leading Destination’. Mexico won a raft of destination awards, including Tulum (‘Mexico & Central America’s Leading Beach Destination’); Puerto Morelos (‘Mexico’s Leading Adventure Tourism Destination’); Rio Secreto (‘Mexico & Central America’s Leading Nature Reserve); and Mazatlán – with its tropical neoclassical architecture and a paradise beach – was named ‘Mexico & Central America’s Leading City Destination’. The mesmerizing beauty of the Atacama Desert was recognized with the award for ‘South
America’s Most Romantic Destination’. The rapidlyemerging tourism hotspot of Guayaquil, Ecuador was named ‘South America’s Leading City Destination’. Whilst another tourism rising star, Santiago de Cali, Colombia was declared ‘South America’s Leading Emerging Tourism Destination’.
In the hospitality sector, Sofitel Legend Santa Clara Cartagena won ‘South America’s Leading Hotel’ and Wyndham Guayaquil, Ecuador walked away with ‘South America’s Leading City Hotel’. Grand Fiesta Americana Coral Beach Cancun, Mexico picked up ‘Mexico & Central America’s Leading Hotel’ and Gaia Hotel & Reserve, Costa Rica was voted ‘Mexico & Central America’s Leading Green Hotel’. In the aviation sector, LATAM was named ‘South America’s Leading Airline’ whilst Copa Airlines scooped ‘Mexico & Central America’s Leading Airline’.

N AMERICA New arrival on the Peruvian luxury hospitality scene, CIRQA - Relais & Châteaux, which is set in a medieval monastery and surrounded by snowcapped volcanoes, was voted ‘South America’s Leading New Hotel’. The results follow a year-long search for the world’s top travel, tourism and hospitality brands. Votes were cast by travel industry professionals and the public, with the nominee gaining the most votes in a category named as the winner. uayaquil was recognized by the Safe Travel seal for the tourist reactivation actions. The Minister of Tourism, Rosi Prado, presented to Gloria Gallardo, president of the Public and Municipal Company of Tourism, a recognition for the city of Guayaquil for its actions in favor of the tourist reactivation after the most critical months of COVID-19. Minister Prado imposed the Safe Travels (Safe Destination) seal on the main port, recognizing the city as the main tourism entry point for Ecuador.
President Gallardo recalled the ‘terrible international image’ that Guayaquil had in the most complex months of the pandemic and argued that the current reality of tourist reactivation, was due to the work of creating ordinances to establish protocols that allow to reactivate the tourism sector while the virus is still being fought. On August 19, Ecuador received the Safe Travels seal from the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), which made the Ministry of Tourism a national entity to deliver this recognition.
Within the tourist entertainment industry, Guayaquil has many locations for all tastes and ages. The range of possibilities is huge and attractive. For instance, children can enjoy playgrounds, waterparks with slides. Also there are sports fields, bicycle lanes and rest areas. All these activities are carried out under biosafety protocols to protect the citizens. The city also offers many green recreational areas that allow contact with nature, such as parks and piers that have a natural, tradicional and historical charm. For those nature
lovers there are places of natural beauty that offer peace and tranquility were they can admire the floral and fauna of the Ecuadorian coast, go hiking, play various kinds of sports, or enjoy a time of leisure. Guayaquil bohemian night life is one thing tourists cannot miss. These are a number of places that offer culture and evening entertainment such as theaters, cinemas, bars, restaurants, night clubs and art galleries among others.
