What’s in a name? For us, everything. When the state legislature signed the County College Act of 1962, it set into motion the model for the 19 two-year schools that enroll 61 percent of all undergraduate college students in New Jersey today. By establishing high-quality, affordable and accessible local institutions of higher education, the legislature put the path to lifelong learning within reach of whomever sought it. For Bergen, and our sister institutions, we remain inspired by that vision and continue to embrace that responsibility. We are a community resource providing the foundation for a career – or a four-year degree; a partner with local employers delivering solutions to enhance our region’s economy; and a center of excellence creating cultural and civic initiatives that bring thousands of nonstudents to our locations each year. Inside this annual report, you’ll meet the residents of our Bergen community – the students, faculty, staff and local residents who made headlines in 2013-14. You’ll learn about their accomplishments and discover who – and what – makes this a community like no other. From the Meadowlands, to the Palisades; to the county seat and the Ramapo River, this is the report about the power of community. Your Bergen community. Our Bergen Community College. Sincerely,

Dr. B. Kaye Walter President
