WELCOME FROM THE HEAD OF SCHO OL D AV I D FA U S Dear BASH Guests, Welcome to BASH 2023! This year’s theme is “The Magic of TBS,” but it’s not a bunch of hocus pocus. Instead, we are showcasing the authentic ways that The Benjamin School provides a magical experience for your child each and every day. It all starts at the bell, and like many parents have noticed, students from our youngest lower schoolers to our upperclassmen are all excited to arrive at our charming campuses each morning. They find a warm embrace by their enchanting teachers, who despite a rigorous curriculum, make sure they thrive in class. With a wide and varied curriculum, and athletic and artistic programs, extraordinary things happen to the students that take advantage of everything TBS has to offer. This is the magic that we are talking about! Before you become spellbound by our amazing live auction, I would like to recognize this year’s honorary co-chairs: the Maglio, Bessette, Grande, and Jenkins families. With their six grandchildren at Benjamin, Bill and Madeline Maglio were instrumental in building the STEM Center on the lower/middle school campus that now bestows their name. Michelle Maglio Grande along with husband Chris were the co-chairs for BASH for two years. In addition, sisters Danielle Maglio Jenkins and Nicole Maglio Bessette have been actively volunteering on campus for years. Thank you for all you have done for our school. It is our pleasure to celebrate you.
38
I would also like to recognize our co-chairs who have achieved nearly miraculous feats to arrange this mystical evening for you. Lisa and Eric Glasband and Matt and Christina Nihan have worked tirelessly to deliver a top-notch auction, entertainment, and extraordinary experiences
for our guests. Along with the largest number of volunteers in our school’s history, your co-chairs have worked countless hours on this event to secure donations for TBS, a 501(c)(3) non-profit. Please know I am so thankful for your leadership and almost supernatural work ethic! In addition to bidding high and often, I encourage you to consider giving to our “Call From The Heart” which focuses on our holistic approach to safety and security on campus. There is no place quite like Benjamin, and I fervently hope you help us maintain this magnificent school for generations of students to come. Enjoy the magic,
David Faus Head of School
WELCOME FROM THE HONORARY CHAIRS THE MAGLIO, BESSETTE, GRANDE, A N D J E N K I N S FA M I L I E S We are honored to serve as Honorary Chairs for the 2023 Benjamin BASH Gala. We would first like to extend a sincere and heartfelt thank you to this evening’s co-chairs, Lisa and Eric Glasband and Christina and Matt Nihan for their commitment and dedication in planning a successful BASH to benefit our Benjamin community. This year’s theme - “The Magic of TBS” – is incredibly meaningful. Our family is grateful to have experienced the magic of Benjamin alongside our six children – Cole Grande (12th), Avery Grande (9th), Ryder Bessette (5th), Greyson Jenkins (5th), Ruby Bessette (3rd) and Olivia Jenkins (1st). This year, we welcomed our 7th family member to the Benjamin community, Logan Bodstrom (WOW). We would especially like to thank the entire TBS faculty and staff, both past and present, for their love, support, and dedication to our children, year after year.
THE BENJAMIN SCHOOL IS TRULY A SPECIAL PLACE – NULLI SECUNDUS!

CALL FROM THE HEART SAFETY AND SECURITY This year’s “Call From The Heart” is a top school priority that affects our students and faculty every day- their safety and security. Our approach is all-encompassing, with an emphasis on both the physical and online well-being and safety of our Benjamin family. The School is committed to investing in security enhancements every year and staying at the forefront of technology without taking away from other priorities in academics, arts, and athletics. By supporting this fund, you help defray the cost of on-going projects in two core areas: ONLINE SAFETY • Provide resources to empower students to navigate social media in a healthy way and protect themselves online • Bring speakers and experts to campus to offer parents real-time insight on trends affecting their children • Offer faculty professional development that addresses social media, technology use, and student experiences PHYSICAL SECURITY • Maintain optimal security guard staffing despite inflationary costs • Increase video surveillance cameras, access control systems, and maintain flexibility to install the latest safety technologies, both seen and unseen • Enhance campus cybersecurity through updated software and firewalls

There’s so much to love about this island...
→ Where do you live on Nantucket? After many years here I was able to purchase a home on the edge of town, near the high school. It was perfect timing as the kids really love the short commute, the ability to be in town and an easy hub for their friends. On days spent in the office it’s also amazing to be able to walk there.
→ Favorite lobster roll? There are so many great places for a lobster roll, but my personal favorite is from 167 Raw’s food truck on Hummock Pond Road. It’s a favorite for the ease, convenience and of course the quality! They also have a great outdoor patio and you can BYOB from their market if you prefer to eat-in.
→ Favorite beach? I can’t share that secret! Actually, all of them for different reasons. It depends on the mood, occasion and most importantly - the wind direction! Luckily, you can’t go wrong at any Nantucket beach.

Nantucket is 14 miles long and 3½ miles wide Over 50% of the island is protected conservation land Nantucket has regularly ranked on various top 20 lists for best islands and beaches by both Condé Nast and National Geographic over the last few years

Living the Nantucket life since 2004! With almost 20 years on island, Brent has helped hundreds of families find “their Nantucket.” Raising kids, living the island lifestyle and listening to what his clients love most about the island, Brent knows the many facets of what makes Nantucket special. Brent has sold over $130m in real estate on Nantucket since 2016. For more information visit: ack.fish/brent
→ Where do you live on Nantucket? I bought my first home on Nantucket in 2014, site unseen, while living in Europe. My home was located in town, I loved the area. Two years ago, I bought in Miacomet, right near the golf course. I am close to town but, when the summer gets busy, my neighborhood is an amazing respite – biking to 167 Raw Seafood, Bartlett’s, the Cisco Brewery and Miacomet Golf Course!
→ What is your favorite month on Nantucket? Without a doubt - SEPTEMBER! It’s the best. Typically, the weather is still great, the island is a little quieter and all the restaurants are still open, and easy to get into without an advanced reservation! I highly recommend a fall getaway if you can squeeze one in!
→ Favorite lobster roll? I agree with Brent, there are so many great options but my goto is the lobster roll at Cru on Straight Wharf. I always choose warm versus cold. You also get an amazing harbor view at the same time!
Erin moved to Nantucket full-time in 2016 after years of working in the corporate world and living in Boston. She has always had a passion for real estate and loves getting to know her clients to successfully help them find their Nantucket home or summer rental . Erin is also the founder of the sea-inspired lifestyle brand A Salty Soul which you’ll see around the island.
→ More fun facts about Nantucket: •

Over 14,000 people live on Nantucket year round, according to the 2020 US Census - that population increases to 80,000+ in the summer Nantucket’s nickname is the “Grey Lady” because the fog rolls in fast The highest record real estate year was 2021, with over $2.3 billion in sales
