Strahinja, a smuggler in the Balkans, aspires to buy a luxury apartment to fx his broken marriage. Shortly after, a routine smuggling trip to Hungary is interrupted by border police. Strahinja becomes stranded with refugee teens, led by Yousef, a beatboxer and a hopeless romantic from Yemen. Yousef’s open-hearted approach to life makes Strahinja aware of the walls he has built around his own.

Ana was born in Belgrade, Yugoslavia. She holds an MFA in Film from Columbia University. Her frst feature flm, The Game, premiered at the 2021 Toronto International Film Festival, Discovery section and won Best Screenplay at FICIMAD in Madrid. Ana is a Film Society of Lincoln Center’s Emerging Visions and Artist Academy Fellow, a graduate of Black Factory Cinema’s workshop with Abbas Kiarostami in Cuba’s EICTV, and 2017 Panavision New Filmmaker grant recipient.

Presented in Arabic and English with English subtitles Jacir, a resettled Syrian refugee, is in search of a new life in a rough Memphis neighborhood. He is faced with a challenging new environment and a host of interesting individuals, including Morty, his next-door neighbor’s cat, Meryl, a racist and opiod-addicted shut-in, and Jerome, a Memphis rapper. Jacir tries to win the affection of a new love interest, Nadia, while dealing with her overzealous father and navigating suspicion from ICE.

Presented in German with English subtitles Frida, a 40-year-old German-Finnish painting therapist, gets unexpectedly pregnant and Felix, the father of her child, breaks up with her to reunite with his ex. Frida cannot accept Felix’s decision. Despite some serious health problems due to her pregnancy, Frida insists on winning him back, using absurd, and, sometimes, excessive methods.

Laura Lehmus was born in Finland in 1972. She studied fne arts at F+F School in Zurich & audiovisual media at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne. After a long stopover in Berlin and Helsinki, in 2019 Laura fnally settled in Düsseldorf where she works as director, on-air producer, and art director for flm and TV. Her short flm Alienation won dozens of awards, including the German Short Film Award (2015), and the flm became one of the three most successful German short flms in 2016. Sweet Disaster is Laura’s feature flm debut.

Directed By Waheed Alqawasmi

Waheed is an Emmy Award-winning director and producer. He has created content for a long list of notable clients including GoDaddy, Cheerios, Reba McEntire, and Zappos through his company, WAFilms. During his tenure with FOX Television, Waheed served as Creative Director, where he undertook launching promotional campaigns for TV shows such as The Following and New Girl. Born in Amman, Jordan, Waheed immigrated to the USA at the age of 13. Jacir marks his feature flm debut.
