SARAH STUDYING COUNTRYSIDE ADVANCED LEVEL I had already been working as a protective species ecologist but when I was made redundant I looked to expand upon my existing skills. I knew that Shuttleworth College had an excellent reputation because I had already studied there 12 years ago, so it was lovely to go back and study a different course.

ZOE HORSE MANAGEMENT ADVANCED LEVEL I wanted to do something that I really enjoyed and I love riding and working with horses – I’ve been doing it since I was eight years old. We had two hours a week of riding and I was given the opportunity to ride the horses after College as I didn’t have access to my own horse like some other people. The facilities at Shuttleworth are brilliant. We have 23 good stables, a big indoor school where we ride, and have access to a horse walker, which not many colleges have.

APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMMES We offer a wide range of Apprenticeship programmes which provide a great opportunity to gain an industry-recognised qualification while working, enabling you to earn while you learn. You need to be employed for at least 30 hours per week before starting your Apprenticeship.

HOLLY STUDYING ANIMAL MANAGEMENT FOUNDATION DEGREE Originally I hadn’t intended to go on to higher education, but I enjoyed the Advanced Level course so much and in particular loved working with the animals in the College’s Animal Unit, which is such a unique facility. As I expected, the higher education course was quite intense but I was also given some fantastic opportunities.

I also want a more self-sufficient lifestyle so this RHS qualification seemed like a good stepping stone to achieve both of these goals. It’s well respected in the industry and I can keep my options open as I don’t know what area of horticulture I want to specialise in yet.
