Freshening up a home for resale The Real Estate market feels like it is going crazy this spring! It is a great time to consider putting your home on the market, as the yard looks lovely with rich green lawns and budding flowers, there are lots of bright sunny days adding natural light and energy to your space, and the windows and doors can be opened wide in the warmer weather to naturally air out your space. I usually recommend that clients talk to their realtor before making any major or costly changes prior to selling their home, but here are a few easy tips for getting your home freshened up for resale! Declutter your home: Now is the time to start packing up anything you don’t use on a regular basis, or that does not compliment the room’s décor in a positive manner. You will breathe a sigh of relief when moving day comes and you already have a head start on purging and packing. Create as much natural light as you can: Take down any drab or out-dated drapes and window coverings that are blocking natural light from flooding your space. Add a nicely framed mirror to a dark corner. It will reflect light back into the space and make the room sparkle. Appeal to all the senses: Ditch the chemicals like Febreeze and air fresheners! Potential buyers are very smart and will think that you are trying to cover up bad odours. Get to the

root of the issue. In most cases a full day of open widows and a great breeze throughout the home will freshen up your space. Try simmering brown sugar in water before an open house. Use the morning to bake a light recipe and fill your
