Purpose Transform an image from online or scanned into the computer into a vector format. The line art illustration needs to look as realistic as possible. All portions of the object need to be represented in the illustration.

Assignment · Illustrations are traced using a variety of tools including but not subject to: Pen Tool, Geometric Shapes, and the Pathfinder Pallet. · All edges need to be distinguished by a line. · Students may not illustrate cartoons or previous illustrated objects. Use a photograph as a basis for the illustration. · Images used for illustration can be either in the horizontal or vertical format. · .25-3pt. stroke lines are used for all lines created. Utilize smaller point sizes for detailed areas. · Use the type tool to key in text if in the illustration. If the text is at a perspective, covert the text to outline (Click TYPE, scroll down to CREATE OUTLINE). To manipulate the type try using: The Rotate Tool, Scale Tool, Sheer Tool, or the Reflect Tool. · Portions of the illustration that are thick lines shapes should be created by a large stroke pt. and then converted to a path. (Increase stroke, Click OBJECT, PATH, and OUTLINE STROKE) · All shapes need to be created using edges for neighboring shapes. · When viewed in outline mode, Hairline stokes should line up exactly, or at least to the point that the viewer can tell that there are two lines sharing the same path.

EVALUATION:

Please type 1. What are three things that you learned from this exercise? 2. What did you find to be the most challenging aspect of this project? What did you do to overcome this obstacle?

ORIGINAL PHOTO Find an image online that has some dimension. Images that have highlights or shadows will be more difficult.

3. How has the use of this program influenced your view of drawing on the computer? 4. If you could give someone advise about this project what would it be. 5. What did you like/dislike about this project? What would you have changed if you did this assignment over?

LINE ART: Using different tools in illustrator all shapes are traced and accounted for using between a .25pt. - 3pt. black outline. It is very important to use existing lines when creating shapes that share a same edge. Copy and past initial shape in front and cut shape, deleting the portion of the shape that will not be needed. Using the pen tool complete the remainder of the shape started with the cutting of the original. When the entire image is created you should be able to select any portion of the illustration and fill it in with color.

LINE ART FILLED IN: Select each portion of the line art, fill with white. Areas that are dark, fill those areas in with black. Be sure to arrange the correct layers/sublayers so the image is visually correct. This can be done in the layers pallet or by using the arrange function by right clicking the mouse or in the main menu.

Taking portions of the shape create another shape that is smaller than the original. Give each shape their desired colors using the swatches in the pallet. Select a point from each shape using the blend tool. This will create all of the middle tones necessary to give the figure its dimensional qualities.
