The economic development organization Battle Creek Unlimited helped attract $195 million in private investment this year that resulted in the creation of more than 600 new jobs. Of that total, foreign-direct investment accounted for 70 percent of the growth. As we look ahead to 2013, we expect overall investment and job growth to equal or outpace 2012 activity. 269.962.7526 www.bcunlimited.org www.welcometobattlecreek.com www.downtownbattlecreek.com P LJ-0100232044

From above the world of “Cars” comes “Disney’s Planes,” an action-packed 3D animated comedy adventure featuring ‘Dusty’ (voice of Dane Cook), a plane with dreams of competing as a high-flying air racer. But Dusty’s not exactly built for racing—and he happens to be afraid of heights. So he turns to a seasoned naval aviator who helps ‘Dusty’ qualify to take on the defending champ of the race circuit. Michigan Mile The Michigan Mile Race

Event Dates For Public Viewing Friday, July 5th (One Run) Saturday, July 6th (Three Runs Per Day) Sunday, July 7th (Three Runs Per Day)

Location - W. K. Kellogg Airport during the Battle Creek Field of Flight Air Show and Balloon Festival The Michigan Mile hosts its inaugural race at The Battle Creek Field of Flight Air Show and Balloon Festival. Spectators will have the chance to see some of the fastest vehicles in the world participate in the “standing mile” racing. Each vehicle will have one mile of open runway to achieve the fastest speeds possible. Each competitor has three opportunities to lay down their fastest speed of the day. We play host to a varied field of automotive and motorcycle competitors from all over the country, from domestic muscle cars to Italian exotics, all automotive enthusiasts are welcomed and race fans will love this addition! Vehicles will be on display when not competing. Our primary mission statement is to unite all of those who appreciate the skill and craftsmanship behind high performance vehicles, regardless of the medium in which it may travel. A common bond exists between every pilot, race car driver, engineer or mechanic who chases the thrill of a quicker lap time or a faster top speed. The Michigan Mile is the one event that can satisfy the need of even the most die-hard speed seekers while being safe and enjoyable for those of all ages. Drivers at the Michigan Mile will be pursuing World Records. Alex Conley, President and Founder of The Michigan Mile, brought this opportunity first to Larry Bowron, Transportation Director for the City of Battle Creek. “I felt this type of an event would enhance all the activities that surround the Battle Creek Field of Flight, stated Larry Bowron.” “When Larry called me and explained Alex’s idea, I thought it was an awesome idea! I love all aspects of our event from the noise of airplanes to the serenity of hot-air balloons, but this just adds a whole new level of excitement,” stated Barb Haluszka, Executive Director, Battle Creek Field of Flight Air Show and Balloon Festival. We feel that Michigan, being the automotive capital, deserves a definitive automotive event that is unlike anything else in the world. The Michigan Mile, in conjunction with the Battle Creek Field of Flight Air Show and Balloon Festival, offers key features such as: • Michigan’s First – This is the first officially timed standing mile event in the state. • Attendance levels – The largest crowd to witness standing mile racing anywhere in the world. • New Exposure - Exposing a completely new audience to the sport of standing mile racing. • World Stage - Spectators and Performers attending from all over the world. As of to date over 25 cars have registered to participate in the Michigan Mile. There will be Ferraris, Porsches and Maseratis and a variety of domestic muscle cars; and there are even a few high tech motorcycles! Although the actual “Pit’s Area” will be free of all spectators, all participants and their cars will be on display for a few hours on Friday, July 5 and throughout the day on both July 6 and July 7. So, plan to meet the drivers and see the cars up close at the first ever Michigan Standing Mile Race. We seek to grow this event and produce it annually for many years to come.
