DMAR Offers

Rental Office Spaces for People on the Go

The business professional is away from his office and is in need of a secretary, printer, copy machine, fax machine and other office resources. He won’t get those things at the restaurant where he’s set up a temporary office. While shuffling papers, typing on his laptop, balancing his phone on his shoulder, which is driving him insane - at this point he realizes getting his work done wherever isn’t cutting it anymore. He knows that after he finishes his draft, he’ll need to find a place to print it out, proof it, make changes and probably reprint and copy. Court begins in an hour – will he finish his document in time? If you’ve been there, or know someone who’s done that, there’s an easy solution here in Bartow – DMAR Business Centers. Located only a few blocks from the Polk County Courthouse in Bartow, DMAR Business Centers is owned and operated by Retired Navy Chief Petty Officer David Marlowe, a nationally-published author and fluid and mechanical power systems instructor. Marlowe said the idea came to him when an out of town attorney was lamenting the fact that there was nowhere to do business in Bartow. He had to sit at a local McDonald’s for hours working feverishly to get ready for an important case. “It just made sense for us to provide a business office away from home, for all the professionals who come to the County Seat to work,” Marlowe said. And Marlowe has done a jam-up job of providing state-of-the-art equipment suited for any office situation. The DMAR Business Center offers office/document services and hourly office space rental from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays in the downtown Bartow area. “There’s a cost effective plan to fit any need, said DMAR Office Manager, Annette Eitt. “We have usage plans for customers who need to frequently conduct business remotely. Our cubicle work stations come equipped with Kloud PC, remote, and monitor or you may bring your own laptop. Our Wi-Fi is secured.” Other rentals include virtual office plans; PMB and address plans; conference room with video-conferencing capabilities and a smart board; a large event or training room, deposition rooms and private meeting rooms. The event room may be rented after-hours, on holidays, and on weekend days, she noted, and can also be used for private parties. “We also provide document or office services conducive to our customers’ needs - document services are a part of our multi-usage plans.” Marlowe said his goal is to give business professionals a secure, comfortable and reasonably-priced rental office space, where everything

needed is readily available to get a job done. On top of that, at DMAR you can rent a personal mailbox, with local addresses for a virtual office. Businesses May Sign Up Now to Participate in Biz Kids Summer Workshop The Chamber’s summer workshop for kids titled, “Biz Kids,” is a program in which children will learn firsthand how a business is run from merchants that operate within the Community Redevelopment Agency confines. Main Street Bartow, Inc. is assisting the Chamber with the program, now in its fourth year. More than 90 kids have participated in Biz Kids. This year, classes run Tuesdays for six weeks in one or two hour increments (morning and afternoon sessions) from June 16 through July 21. Class times are 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. or 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.; or 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. or 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Classes are provided for kids entering third grade through finishing eighth grade. Bartow merchants will teach children about their businesses and provide a business-related craft that the child may take home. Children will experience a different business each week and receive a glimpse of the entrepreneurial life – and a tee shirt. Classes are free. Students may choose a class from a variety of businesses such as The Cookie Jar, Simply Storage, The Polk County History Center, Bartow Art Guild, Spath Jewelers, and The Polk County Democrat. Businesses will be signing up in May, Condello said, “and any business within the CRA district is welcome to participate.” Participating businesses will receive a Summer “boost,” for the classes of $15 or $30 per child (depends on one or two hour classes).

Bartow’s unit of the National Guard will return with a display of vehicles and equipment. A moment of reflection for the fallen and the National Anthem will remind us of the meaning of Independence Day. The night’s “Fireworks Extravaganza” will be presented by the City of Bartow and the Fourth of July Committee. Bring lawn chairs, blankets, bug spray and patriotism. While corporate sponsors help with some of the costs, financial help is still needed. Even small contributions help pay for entertainers, sound systems and other expenses of the popular celebration. Bartow Retail Academy to Teach Business Owners Marketing and Sales Tactics

Polk County business owners are invited to learn new marketing and sales tactics for their small businesses at the Bartow Retail Academy, beginning June 9 at DMAR Business Centers, 300 East Summerlin Street, Bartow. The Academy, presented by Main Street Bartow, Greater Bartow Chamber of Commerce, Bartow’s Community Redevelopment Agency, and the Florida Small Business Development Center at University of South Florida, will include four seminars for just $120. Juneteenth Celebration Commemorates 150th Anniversary of Emancipation Proclamation Where can you find food, entertainment and fun with a little history thrown in? Bartow’s 14th annual Juneteenth celebration, of course. Two days of activities are planned: Friday, June 19th have lots of fun downtown Bartow at the Main Street Friday Fest; and Saturday, June 20th activities will be at the Over the Branch Gateway on West Polk Street, under the State Road 60 overpass. As usual the family event includes lots of food, fun for the kids, music and a chance to visit with friends and catch up on all the news. Friday night, at Main Street Bartow’s Friday Fest, “On the Avenue,” is featured live entertainment. This features music in three genres: Hip Hop, Pop and Rock. Historical presentations will also be featured commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation. Saturday is Family Day, designed to entertain and enrich adults and kids. Family games, face painting, horseback riding, a horse show and train rides are planned, from 10 a.m.-9 p.m., plus entertainment by local talent, and a Car Show. A Health Fair will offer free screenings and HIV testing. K-9 Demonstrations, Gospel Fest from 5-9 p.m. will feature musicians from around Central Florida. According to websites, Juneteenth, celebrated on June 19, is the name given to emancipation day by African-Americans in Texas. On that day in 1865 Union MajorGeneral Gordon Granger read General Orders, No. 3 to the people of Galveston. It stated in part, “The people of Texas are informed that, in accordance with a proclamation from the Executive of the United States, all slaves are free. This involves an absolute equality of personal rights and rights of property between former masters and slaves, and the connection heretofore existing between them becomes that between employer and hired labor.”

Large celebrations on June 19 began in 1866 and continued regularly into the early 20th century.
