I

t is a distinct pleasure as Executive Editor to be a part of the 33rd Edition of the Official Media Guide for the Doral Publix Junior Golf Tournament. It represents a challenge, and at the same time an honor, to have the opportunity to work alongside a group of dedicated professionals that develops amazing initiatives for young golfers. Under the direction of Charlie DeLucca and Charlie DeLucca III, this event has grown over its history of success involving the participation of more than 650 youngsters and their families representing 40 countries who come to the beautiful Doral Golf Resort & Spa during the month of December. This is the 33rd year that the event has been held at this location. More than 15,000 players have participated during the tournament’s long career.

from the Executive Editor

I want to thank all the sponsors of the event and those who work tirelessly alongside Charlie DeLucca in his continuing support of youth activities to ensure the success of this event so that the participants feel at home, have a good time, and feel the force of inspiration to develop the skills necessary to overcome obstacles in their personal development. In designing this guide, we have included information about those who have participated in the tournament since its inception, sponsors, prior winners, notes, interviews, and testimonials to add to the importance of the event hoping to reach youngsters from all corners of the world to become part of this special annual activity.

and social networking, this guide is accessible to national and international media. It provides the capabilities for everyone to feel as if they were here participating, meeting the players and their families, and knowing the proud history of the Doral Publix Junior Classic. Finally I wish to thank the entire team led by Joel Furnari, Developer and Director of the Official Media Guide, The First Tee of Miami, and John Reed and Carole Miller who provided historical information of the event. The Produce Connection services:

- Government - Food Service - Global Comunity

The Produce Connection has high criteria for product inspection and acceptance of product. On site The Produce Connection procurement, quality, and inventory control personnel assess the quality of all products at the time of arrival. On hand products are inspected on a daily basis and final inspection is performed at the time of product consolidation and loading by both USDA inspectors and The Produce Connection quality control personal. An in-house inspection is made to insure that all fruit and vegetables are free from decay, scale, and also to guarantee that size, sugar content, cosmetic appearance, carton condition and packaging, and temperature at time of receipt all possess characteristics normally associated with DSCP quality. The Produce Connection only purchases product from high quality growers/packers and shippers. We purchase directly from the growing area, not from other street markets.

If you are from out of town or a local duffer looking for the perfect, reasonably priced golf course in the Miami area, we have what you are looking for.

Charlie DeLucca Jr. & Charlie DeLucca III

Located for easy access to the Miami International Airport and attractions, we can boast about our 18-hole championship course, our excellent pro shop, our restaurant (open for early tee times and throughout the day including a relaxing lunch overlooking the course from our terrace), meeting rooms, practice tee, driving range, putting green, and world-class PGA-approved golf instructors. In 1996-1997, International Links Miami Melreese Golf Club underwent a $3.9 million renovation. Prior to the reopening in October 1997, Tiger Woods made his first professional south Florida appearance hosting more than 3,500 fans while conducting a clinic and exhibition.

John Reed Executive Vice President

Since the reopening, the course has hosted many popular sports figures including Miami Heat, Miami Dolphins, and Florida Marlins players and alumni. The course has been redesigned by Charles Mahannah and is managed by Bunkers of Miami, under the direction of

Charles DeLucca. Our greens average 6,500 square feet and are planted with certified Tiftdwarf grass. They are designed to USDA specifications which guarantee the truest putting surface in South Florida. Our two-sided driving range and golf learning center is magnificent. Beautiful grassed tee areas as well as mats will be available. There are target greens, two practice putting greens, fairway and greenside sand bunkers available for public use. The driving range and putting green are lighted in the evenings until 10:00 P.M. Co-located at Melreese International Links, are the Dade Amateur Golf Association (DAGA) and The First Tee Miami. The Dade Amateur Golf Association sponsors the Summer Series Tournament (which is open to all junior golfers 18 and under who are not attending college) and the Dade Amateur Championship and Senior Championship Tournament. The First Tee Miami provides the Junior Golf Clinic every Saturday and Sunday for beginners, intermediates, and advanced students regardless of age, addresses the First Tee Nine Core Values and Life Skills as well as basic golf rules and etiquette, created a Young Women Prep

Welcome you with more than 2 million dollars in renovation During the summer months of 2014 the International Links Miami-Melreese Country Club underwent a $2,130,000 renovation. We installed Certified TifEagle Grass on all of the Greens and put the greens back to their original size in excess of 7000 square feet giving us the largest and most undulated putting surfaces in South Florida. All of the sand traps, greenside and fairway, were cleaned out, new drainage installed and filled with USGA Speculation J Angle Tour Sand. We installed Certified Sea Isle1 Paspalum Grass on the Tee Tops, Fairways, Collars and Approaches giving us a plush playing surface.

Academy event, and is an active participant in the “Big Brothers/ Big Sisters” Program and the Spring Break Classic. Both organizations sponsor and participate in many civic events such as the Special Olympics, the WGC Cadillac Championship at Doral, and the internationally renowned Doral Publix Junior Golf Classic. Our restaurant’s diverse menu is something you don’t often find even at exclusive golf resorts. Nicaraguan-born chef Marvin Urbina (Riviera Country Club, Tutu Pasta, Giacomo) was hired to create the menu which takes guests from breakfast (potato pancakes, waffles, frittatas) through lunch and (Tuesday through Saturday) early dinner. The restaurant is open to the public with no dress code. During the week, doctors, lawyers and judges come here for lunch, and on weekends kids taking golf lessons grab burgers and fries. More upscale tastes will enjoy the grilled salmon fillet in saffron cream sauce with diced scallops and micro greens or fork-tender short ribs in

demi-glace on garlic mashed potatoes. Risotto with squid ink and pizza with pecorino are also options. Tarte tatin makes for a sweet finish at this little-known gem near Miami International Airport. The Pro-shop has a complete line of clubs, balls, shoes, clothing and accessories for men, women, and youth golfers. Our friendly golf-oriented associates will assist you in finding whatever you need and do it with courtesy and a smile. Our team includes Charles DeLucca Jr. (Managing Partner), our team captains (Charles DeLucca III- Director of Golf, John Reed- Director of Operations, Marvin UrbinaChef, Rolando Molina -Superintendent, Carole Miller- Food and Beverage Operations), our pro-shop team (Jay Cooper, Pam Zambrano, Joey Vega, Adrian Miguel, and Dick McNeal), and the dining room team (servers Dawn, Oscar, Frank, and Buddy). For a friendly experience come to Melreese and let us show you why we are proud to work here.
