It seems hard to believe that I am welcoming you to the 20th New Direction Sale. First of all, I’d like to thank everyone who has been a huge part of the New Direction Sale the past 20 years. My wife Andrea who is my best friend and also a great supporter of everything I do, our 5 kids, Shane, Shelbi, Brevin, Natalie, and Haylie – what a blessing you have all been and very helpful also. I want to thank my mom for all the hard work she has done throughout the years, whether heat checking, filling feed buckets, tanks and being able to utilize her farms for my love of Simmental Cattle. My two brothers, Scott and Bill. Scott likes to stay in the background, but there is no one that has put more time in whenever I needed help. Bill owns several cows in the stout program and is also helpful especially taking the late night shift checking cows. And finally, my sister, Susan, who has been a tremendous supporter of everything I’ve done in my life. I also want to thank Andrea’s mom and dad, Alan and Diane Harre for all that they have done. It was great to have them move back to Nebraska and to be near our family and also help in many ways with the cattle. Alan and I have several cows we own together including Magnetic Lady. They also have their own cows and operation, Crusader Simmentals. The best part of this cattle business is the friends you meet and the partnerships I’ve had. John Snider bought seven open heifers at the first sale, and has purchased cattle from Sloup Simmentals the past 19 years. We own three donors with John and I enjoy just visiting with this special friend. There are many others who have been great supporters throughout the years including J&C Simmentals (Bob Volk), Rick Wetovick, Sanders Ranch (Steve Sanders), Lyle Krska, Alvie Bender, Jay Anderson, Gary Ames and many, many others. Thank you. It has also been great to work with all the consignors who have been a part of these past 20 years, especially Brandon Luebbe, who has been a part of every sale, not only is Brandon my neighbor and great friend, he is always willing to do whatever is needed. I would also like to thank all the consultants who have made this sale a huge success. Tracy Harl has been an auctioneer for the sale and I greatly appreciate all he has done. Finally, DP Sales (Doug, Debbie, Drew, Holli and Knox) not only have they been incredibly helpful and involved in the Sloup Simmental program, but I consider them very special friends. Finally I would like to thank all the people who have worked in the back and have gotten the cattle ready for the sale and presented them. Special thanks to Ramsey Johnson for all he has done and Daniel Amich for helping this year prior to the sale. I am very excited to offer this great group of cattle, 20 top cows from the heart of our herd, including Red Jewell 7605 and SS Windsong which are two of the best cows we’ve ever sold. A powerful set of purebred and percentage heifers and an exciting group of bred heifers are also on the sale. It is also exciting to offer embryos, pregnancies, and the right to flush out of some of the top donors in the Simmental breed, including Magnificent Dreams and Dana who were purchased in earlier New Direction Sales.

I told DP that we would offer a female from the heart of our donor pen for this year’s special sale and it was decided it would be Girlfriend. Girlfriend has already proven herself to have the ability to have outstanding bulls and heifers alike. Got into this cow because she is a little different and is a little old school. She stands out with her cow family and length of body, cool hipped and hind leg and a super cool front end and shoulder. Sweet Force dam raised She’s So Sweet that baldy that everybody liked that has sold a lot calves and has made lots of money to talk about her cow family. Her show career by Abby Nelson was great also as she finished off her career at Regionals in Hutch being 5th overall this year and also winning lots of other shows. She is going to calve to Dew It Right around September 24th before the sale and will be open and ready to flush. We are selling one flush with a cap of 6 embryos and a guarantee of two pregnancies. The sale price will be six times the money plus the cost of semen. I think with the bulls today there will be many different choices to match up with Sweet Force.
