GOOD LUCK!

You can basically plant them any time of the year, except in the middle of winter. The winter chill keeps them dormant and they store quite well.

VERBS Each picture shows that the two boys, the monkey and the kite are doing something. Words that tell us what a person or a thing does are called verbs. (Words which describe an action). A verb refers to an action performed by a noun (the person or thing that is doing the action). The boy is reading a book. The future tense The way in which the verb is formed or built, tells us whether the action is being done now, or was done yesterday, or will be done in the future: The boys read a book. (He does it all the time) The boy is reading a book. (He is reading at the moment) The will read a book. OR The boy is going to read a book. (This will happen in the future) For this activity about your future dreams, you need to practice the future time (tense) of the verb. eg. I’m going to study my English verbs. I’ll come to your party! (I’ll = shall)

2.

ADVERBS If we were to ask how an action was being done, the word we would use would be an adverb. Let’s look at our sentence above: HOW? The boy is reading the book slowly / lazily / happily.

3.

NOUNS In each of the pictures, there is someone or something doing the action. A word that is used to name a person or a thing is called a noun. In the above pictures, the nouns are boy, monkey and kite.

4.

ADJECTIVES If we were to describe the person doing the action, we would need a special describing word called an adjective. Let’s look at our sentence. e.g The boy is reading a book. Which boy - The school / happy / tired boy is reading the book.

SEND US YOUR DREAMS! See if you can write a short paragraph using adjectives and adverbs in the correct manner. The best entries will be published in our next issue. Love goes chemical Ok, so it’s not really romantic to talk about love using chemical terms like oxytocin, vasopressin and dopamine, but hey - we want to understand why our stomachs go “rollercoasting when we see the girl or guy we fancy (And maybe understanding will stop us from turning in blundering idiots at the mere sight of them!). So, let’s explore the first stage ..... In the brain, romantic love shows similarities to going mildly insane or suffering from obsessive compulsive disorder. Makes you feel much better, doesn’t it? When you first fall in love, your serotonin (important for regulating anger, agression, body temperature, mood, sleep, vomiting, sexuality and appetite) levels plummet and the brain’s reward centres are flooded with dopamine. No wonder you’re experiencing heart palpitations, sweating and nausea all at once! Dopamine gives a high similar to an addictive drug, creating powerful links in our minds between pleasure and the object of our affection. In short: We basically become “addicted to our love interest. 2 (Source: Hip2B e-zine)
