TRANSPORTATION Tips If you're planning a trip to Lombok, arrange your pick up & drop off/transport prior to departing Bali, or take note below the numbers for Lombok Taxi (Blue Bird Group). It's not like Bali at all, and private drivers and rental is twice the price. For water taxis to and from Lombok and Gili, its recommended you arrange that leg of the trip prior to going. There are local boats for a few dollars which can be a bit dodgy, and the local gangs of young thugs will try to convince you to take a more expensive route, and bargaining sometimes is not a option. Always hire taxis with a meter unless you're planning to use the taxi service all day. When driving a vehicle in Bali, remember that locals are "in the right" in most vehicle collisions or accidents. So be very careful. It’s a long process if you have an accident. When fueling up your car or motorbike, makes sure the pump starts at zero. Rental prices vary from place to place, so check around. Cars can be rented for 100,000 250,000 IDR a day, or less per month. Motorbikes 40,000 - 60.000 IDR a day depending on the duration of rental, condition and model/brand. Lease, finance is the cheapest. Auto-body repair costs can be very inexpensive in Indonesia, so it's best to repair your own damage for a rental car, rather than going thru insurance. Blue Bird is the safest and most reliable taxi on the island. They have a stirct policy for all drivers to use their meter which has a standard fair rate. When renting car in Bali with driver, always monitor the gas usage(keep recietes and track the milage) especially if your renting more than a day. Some drivers will try to overcharge the gas usage, if your careless.

Its the law. If you drive in Bali it is important to have an international drivers license to avoid problems with the police. If you have a KITAS (working permit) for Indonesia it is possible to attain a 1 year local drivers license for Indonesia. Try the public ferry to Lombok that operates every hour. Takes about 1,5 hours to cross.
