How to Treat Lyme Disease
What Is A Tick? Ticks are parasites that live in grasses and shrubs – they need to attach themselves to a host in order to survive. They feed on blood from birds and mammals. They like humid places and here in the tropics they are rife. They detect their host by heat and attach themselves to the skin of the host rather easily. They prefer body creases such as the nape of the neck, armpits, knees, and groin but they will attach anywhere . They feed on blood by inserting their mouth parts into the skin of the host, then feeding slowly sometimes taking several days. Lyme Disease Lyme disease is due to a systemic infection with the spirochete Borrelia and the body’s immune response to the infection. The bacteria are inoculated into the skin by a tick bite. The bacteria can then lead to a whole host of health problems which are often mis-diagnosed. This is from CNN: “Lyme disease is more common than you think” To understand health officials’ battle against the disease, take a look at the statistics. More than 100,000 cases of Lyme disease have been reported since 1989, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and these numbers are conservative and probably do not reflect the true number of cases. Health officials have a difficult time counting the actual number of patients, since Lyme disease mimics other diseases, and people can go for years without a proper, correct diagnosis. What to look for if you’re bitten by a tick CDC research shows that the hallmark “bull’seye” rash appears in 80 percent of patients within days or weeks of being infected. Symptoms also include fatigue, fever and stiffness. If caught early, doctors can successfully treat patients with a three- to four-week course of antibiotics. Those who don’t respond or those who do not get prompt and proper treatment may develop late-stage symptoms, which include neurological difficulties, heart problems and debilitating body pain. These symptoms are much harder to treat.” Yes, they are hard to treat. And almost impossible to cure. I have seen people who have finally discovered they are infected, perhaps years after the initial tick bite, and noted the strange symptoms they manifest, many that mimic other diseases. However, even after correct diagnosis(blood tests can be done to check for antibodies to the bacteria) and treatment the prognosis with drugs is not good. Nervous System and Heart Problems About 15% of people with Lyme disease develop neurological problems from 1 to 5 weeks after the tick bite. The central nervous system becomes infected and various non specific symptoms and signs may develop such as: • Numbness of the face or fingers
If the diagnosis is made early enough antibiotics can be used with varying amounts of success. Depending on the resistance of the bacteria to the drugs, some of your symptoms may disappear, however, this does not mean that you are cured and that all the bacteria are destroyed. Typically your symptoms may persist for years even after long term antibiotic use and may even gradually worsen over time. Borrelia is an anaerobic bacteria, meaning that the organism cannot exist in oxygen. Treatment with hyperbaric oxygen has been used successfully in treating anaerobic infections and is recognized by The Journal of American Medicine for doing so. Other more powerful oxidative therapies such as ozone therapy are also potent weapons against the lyme bacteria as well as other bacteria, parasites, viruses and fungi. I would recommend in cases of lyme infection an intense course of high concentration ozone therapy together with other supplements that would boost one’s immune system. The high concentration of ozone would act to directly kill the bacteria, with the added benefit being that during the procedure itself your blood and lymphatic system will also be cleansed of toxins, heavy metals, acids and other harmful waste products. It is not sufficient to do just any ozone therapy – most ozone procedures do not use a consistently high enough concentration of ozone in order to obtain excellent results. The ozone therapy must be done at sufficiently high concentrations in order to destroy the bacteria lying not only in the blood but also deep within the body. Of course a complete whole body detoxification would also be highly beneficial for this disease as it would eliminate other toxins and wastes from the body allowing the immune system to concentrate fully on the lyme bacteria.
