Plane crash The Executive Mayor of Ekurhuleni Cllr Mondli Gungubele has passed his condolences to the families of the three people who died when a light aircraft crashed in Wattville, Benoni. Circus implicated in tiger Falling rand wreaks shootings is in town havoc on sums insured The circus linked to the recent shooting of six tigers in KwaZulu-Natal will be pitching its tent in Heidelberg from 23-24 February. City residents thinking of going to the Brian Boswell Circus should be aware of its connection with the tiger-killing spree, says animal rights organisation Ban Animal Trading. “Brian Boswell is the owner of both the Brian Boswell Circus and the Natal Zoological Gardens and Lion Park in Pietermaritzburg, where six tigers escaped and were shot to death in December last year,” says Ban Animal Trading. “Initially, it was reported that one tiger had been shot. It was only two weeks later, when animal activists travelled to Pietermaritzburg to demonstrate against the killing, that the truth came out. Until then, Boswell chose to conceal the fact that he had ordered the slaying of six young and healthy tigers.” The deaths of the tigers have caused a public outcry and are being investigated

Hundreds of graves have been damaged throughout the Metro, with some headstones being pushed over and sentimental ornaments and valuables being stolen for illegal trade in the informal market. “This behaviour by unscrupulous individuals leaves grieving families with immeasurable emotional and f inancial stress. Therefore, as the municipality, we strongly condemn these criminal acts and caution the culprits that they will not be tolerated,” said Ekurhuleni Spokesperson Themba Gadebe. Perpetrators of these crimes will be subject to pay either a fine of up to R2000 or to serve six months in jail. Meanwhile, the affected families will be within their rights, as guided by the approved EMM Cemetery By-laws, to claim for repair expenses from the identified vandals. The Rand’s staggering fall against the US Dollar has serious implications for consumers when it comes to the sums insured on their motor and household insurance policies. 91 jariges koek & tee ‘n Lewe van oorwinning Die AGS Aquila gemeente het op Woensdag 27 Januarie twee dames, wat hul 91 ste verjaarsdag vier, bederf met koek en tee. Na afloop van hul weeklikse bybelstudie kon hulle smul aan al die heerlike eetgoed wat voorgesit is. Ellen Janse van Rensburg was op 3 Februarie, 91. Sy is al 40 jaar lank ‘n inwoner van Nigel en alom bekend, veral by die AGS gemeente. Ellen is baie dankbaar teenoor haar Skepper vir soveel jare se seën en die gebede en boodskappe van die gemeenskap. Ellen het so pas herstel van ‘n lang siekbed, waar sy 3 keer by die dood omgedraai het, maar Ellen is sterk en kon steeds haar 91 ste verjaarsdag saam met haar geliefdes vier. Susan, haar dogter versorg haar en die kinders en kleinkinders gee hul beste wense aan ouma. Winnie Breytenbach was 91 on January 25. She is living in Nigel since 1959 and is staying with her son.
Winnie is a very positive person and loves to take a walk in the mornings and appreciate the beauty nature God created. She loves the Lord Jesus and lives a life style where she gives God the glory for her life, health and the inner beauty. She is on no medication and still healthy. During her younger years she worked at Nigel Press, the local newspaper of yester years. She also worked at Consolidated Brass, and later became manager at Hair Romans. She also worked at Nigel Dairies as bookkeeper. Winnie and her husband were the Valentine couple winners at the Spar when he was 90. They had their 70th wedding anniversary on November 7, 2012. Her husband was still healthy and passed away on fathersday 2013. Her message to people is life in a relationship with God and live for the moment. Yesterday is gone and you never know about tomorrow.

Verder het sy die salwing met olie uiteengesit en die belangrikheid daarvan beklemtoon. Sy vertel dat emosies en reuke van die onderskeie olies met mekaar verband hou. deur Gideon van Rhyn Romeine 5 vers 17..‘Want as ten gevolge van die misdaad van die één die dood geheers het deur die één, veel meer sal hulle wat die oorvloed van die genade en van die gawe van die geregtigheid ontvang, in die lewe heers deur die Één, Jesus Christus’. Dit sal ‘n leeftyd neem. Nee dit sal die ewigheid in beslag neem om die dieptes van die juweel wat opgesluit is in hierdie paragraaf waaruit dié teks geneem is te probeer peil. Maar laat ons nie in verbasing na die hemel vir uitleg staar nie, maar dat ons onsself vergewis van die voor-regte wat ons aangebied word op ons aardse reis van om te heers deur Hom, Jesus Christus. Ons mag nie die toepassing van hierdie belofte in ons lewens uitstel nie. Ons sal straks moet wag tot die toekomstige lewe om die ware omvang en die dieper betekenis wat ons aardse verstand te bowe gaan, te begryp. Maar by die lees van hierdie vers word ons aangemoedig tot toepassing en om dit ons eie te maak, hier en nou en in die lewe hierna. Maar hoe kan hierdie stelling waar wees? Ons sal wil redeneer dat ‘n geseënde lewe gepaardgaande met hierdie oorwinning slegs moontlik is vir hulle wie se ontstaan of geboorte vanuit die hemel is. Die mens daarenteen is aards uit oorde van sy natuurlike geboorte. Daarom moet ons op God vertrou en deur Sy gees gelei word. Kolosense 15 vers 45 verklaar dat dit wat uit vlees gebore is, is vlees en kan dit nie self ophef tot op hierdie geestelike vlak nie. Die Heilige Gees moet dit in ons binneste oordra en bevestig om ons in ‘n verhewe vlak op dieselfde geestelike golflengte as Hy te bring. Maar Hy sal dit alleenlik vir ons doen wanneer ons ons harte na Christus toe ophef in kinderlike geloof en tot volle oorgawe kom. Dink net aan die verskil wat dit sal maak! Elke lewe is deur God beplan met die bedoeling om opgelei te word vir hoër diens hier en in die hiernamaals.
En wat ookal in ons lewens gebeur, daar is voortdurend ‘n oorvloed van genade wat vir ons wag in die proses van ervaring. Maar hoe dikwels is ons blind daarvoor net soos Bileam blind was toe die Engel van God hom langs die pad ingewag het. Ons beraam planne. Ons lê snags wakker, koorsagtig en in angs en onsekerheid. Ons soek raad by hierdie en by daardie in plaas daarvan om te gryp na die oorvloedige genade wat bedoel is om my behoeftes van die oomblik aan te spreek en my sieledors te les. Dit kan slegs gebeur wanneer ons dit deur kinderlike geloof en vertroue ons eie maak en uiteindelik in oorwinning kan triomfeer. Die woord oorvloedig beteken in sy Latynse oorsprong: Soos golwe van die see. Gaan staan op die strand en tuur oor die nimmereindige uitgestrektheid van die magtige oseaan. Dan mag ons nie vergenoegd wees met ‘n skulpie vol watertjies nie. Wat sal ons dan waarneem en tot watter wonderlike gevolgtrekking sal ons kom? Ons sal weer ons heerskappy in Christus ervaar. Indien ons opnuut besef dat ‘n troon en septer ‘n beeld van koningskap, krag en outoriteit weerspieël en ons dit ons eie maak, sal ons daardeur bekragtig en versterk word met outoriteit en heerskappy deur Sy Gees tot diep in ons sielewêreld. Dit bring oorwinning mee en sal ons met vrymoedigheid kan verklaar: Ons is meer as oorwinnaars deur Hom wie ons liefhet. As dit oorvloed beteken dan bevestig dit dat ons daagliks versadig word met alle goeie gawes en verbind dit ons tot elke goeie werk in Christus Jesus, ons Voorganger en die Voleinder van ons geloof ..! My gebed: Hemelse Vader, ek dank U vir die beproewinge en pyn wat uiteindelik bewerkers is ten goede. Gee my ‘n diepe begeerte na U heilgheid. Gee dat ek U genade in oorvloed sal ervaar vir my dienswerk, in my lewe hier op aarde asook in die hiernamaals. Amen.

Buidling wise - Retirement Villages
Development of retirement villages has become quite a lucrative business. Regardless the system through which you buy (i.e. shares, sectional title or a life occupation interest/”lewensreg”) care should be taken to evaluate the proposed unit and ensure that it will meet your basic needs. Normally these units are acquired for residing during the retiring phase of life, and it should be able to accommodate you until you are ready for an infirmary, which could be 10 or even 20 years down the line. This article is not a financial advisory, yet prospective buyers should check the levies and the proposed escalations as well, which could make your unit unaffordable over an extended period of time. Many developments for the aged are simply clusters of holiday type of units, without the design having been focused on the elderly and their specific needs. There are specif ic regulations and design guidelines regarding the housing for aged persons which are determined in the Act for the Protection of the Elderly, SANS 10400 and the Dept of Social Development regulations. A properly designed unit will comply amongst others with the following criteria: some of these guidelines being compulsory
(but not all) to be followed by the developer to ensure a proper quality of life for the tenant. Is there at least one entrance that can be accessed by a wheelchair? You might need one temporarily or permanently. Are the passage and the door to the main bedroom wide enough to accommodate a stretcher for ambulance personnel? Is the entry to the shower level with the bathroom floor? Does the shower have a collapsible seat and grab rail? Is there a grab rail on the side of the toilet and is the toilet roll holder in a position where you do not have to twist around to reach the paper? Are the taps of a kind that you can open/close comfortably even with gnarled and rheumatic hands? Is there a proper lock-up garage? A carport gives little protection against inclement weather, and where would you store your few loose tools etc.? Are the electrical sockets in the rooms at least 450mm above the floor? Is there an intercom or other system for medical calls in emergency? Is there an infirmary on the development or must you put your name on the list of another institution for frail care? The promise of an infirmary sometime in the future or with a next building phase is not very safe. History has shown that less than
20% of these promises ever do realise. Is there provision for your washing machine? Where will your fridges be positioned? In the lounge? Are there sufficient kitchen cupboards? You will be staying there for the rest of your life! Are there safety gates at the external doors? In spite of perimeter security, the elderly are soft targets and precautions are very important. If the development was approved after 11 November 2011, all buildings must comply with the energy efficiency regulations (i.e. a solar/gas/heat-pump geyser, insulation,
etc.). If in doubt, consult a professional to inspect and advise. Is the unit North facing? If the main rooms are East or West facing you will have high levels of temperature discomfort during all seasons. Is there proper access control on the site? The retirement unit is most probably your last big investment in life. Make sure you invest wisely: get expert advice, and prevent discomfort for the rest of your life: fees paid to professionals are normally moneys well spent. Joost Hogewoning. Prof. Snr. Arch. Techn.
Birders raise funds More than 600 birding enthusiasts have converged at the Kruger National Park in Mpumalanga from this weekend to help raise funds for conservation. Held in partnership with Birdlife South Africa and Sasol, a total of 18 camps are run from 29 January to 21 February 2016 by the SANParks Honorary Rangers West Rand Region, to raise funds for our national parks. Citizen science is expected to play a critical role this year in revealing the impact of the on-going drought on the number of birds. Citizen science is the collection of data by volunteers for research purposes. Birders of all ages and levels will be encouraged
to take part in the counting and listing of birds to assist the Environmental Wildlife Trust and the University of Cape Town’s Avian Demography Unit in their scientific research. SANParks Honorary Rangers is an organisation of unpaid conservationminded volunteers who serve as an extension of SANParks’ staff and are committed to furthering SANParks’ objectives. Gr8’s Hoërskool John Vorster bied aan “Is horror your neighbour?” Die skool is op Maandag, 1 Februarie deur die graad 8 leerlinge geterroriseer. Die groep het hul stemme laat hoor en almal weet nou wie hulle is. Hulle is nou as ware Vossies ingelyf, na afloop van die groentjie konsert.
Verskeie flitse uit die groentjie konsert tonele. Party van hul is rerig “scary” so erg dat jy jou beentjies sal stomp hardloop as jy hul sien!
