Swembad slenter ‘n Groot gat in die grond, minus duisende rande nadat swembad kontrakteur spoorloos verdwyn. ‘n Nigelliet is hoogs ontstoke nadat sy ingeloop is deur ‘n swembad kontrakteur wat sy dienste adverteer in ‘n plaaslike koerant. Die kontrakteur was aangestel om ‘n sement swembad te installeer by die slagoffer se woning vir die totale bedrag van R28 000. Daar word beweer dat die skuldige party se arbeiders fluks aan die werk gespring het op Vrydag 25 Julie en teen Saterdag was die gat amper klaar gegrou. Gedurende Maandag 28 Julie het die kontrakteur aangedring op ‘n uitbetaling van 35% van die totale bedrag. Daarna is die beton uitgegooi in die gat en het hy ‘n verdere R8000 versoek. Sy rede was dat hy materiaal aankope moes doen om die swembad te kan voltooi. Dit was die laaste sien en hoor van die kontrakteur. Tot op hede het hy R18 000 ontvang en sit die slagoffer met ‘n wit olifant in hul agterplaas. Bogenoemde slagoffer is nie die eerste en
enigste wat in die strik getrap het nie. Soortgelyke insidente vind daagliks in ons samelewing plaas. Hierdie sogenaamde swembad kontrakteurs adverteer gereeld hul dienste in verskeie koerante en wag net vir die regte slagoffer wat hul kan uitbuit. So word lesers met talle ander dienste ook gevang. Wees nugter en gewaarsku. Daar word ‘n beroep gedoen op toekomstige swembad eienaars om eerder gebruik te maak van gelisensieerde en plaaslike kontrakteurs. Gaan hul lisensie nommer na. Kry ten minste drie kwotasies en drie verwysings van elke bieër en hersien onlangse werk persoonlik. Voor jy die kontrak teken, maak seker dat die projek aan al jou verwagtinge voldoen en jy die terme verstaan. Moet nie betalings oorhandig voor aanvang van die werk nie en indien jy in fases betaal, hou dit 10% en minder van die totale koste. Moenie die kontrakteur in kontant betaal en doen finale betaling sodra jy tevrede is met die werk. Talle mense is al so uitgebuit dis tyd dat ons uit ons eie foute en die van ander leer.

‘n Sak vir elke geleentheid VLU Rensburg se maandelikse vergadering is gehou op Woensdag 20 Augustus te Heidelberg by die NG Suikerbosrand gemeente. Die middag het ‘n aanvang geneem met ‘n gemeenskapbewustheid praatjie deur Hannetjie Venter. Dames is bewus gemaak van handsak veiligheid in publieke areas asook in hul voertuie. Joey Guthrie het die lede toegespreek oor die werking van
kardiopulmonêre resussitasie en hoe om dit toe te pas. Daar is selfs ‘n demonstrasie gedoen op die ywerige vrywilliger Annemarie Du Plessis tot die vermaak van die vroue. Die gas vir die dag, Marina Fourie het die dames touwys gemaak oor hoe om skouer-sakke en handsakke te maak uit verskeie materiaal. Die dames was baie beindruk en beoog om hul eie handsak skepping tydens die 2015 konferensie te skep. Die volgende vergadering vind op 17 September by die NG Suikerbosrand gemeente in Jordaanpark Heidelberg plaas. Belangstellendes kan Hannetjie by 083 552 0687 kontak.

The stress of today’s life seems to be getting more and more and we seem to find it more and more difficult to deal with what is happening in our lives. While this is understandable I also feel that we as people do not do enough to create a positive, Christ filled attitude in our lives. Think of all the times last week that someone has asked you how you are doing. The fact is that most of the time the answer has had some (if not all) negative comments/happenings. We seem to focus on the negative and allow situations around us to “pull us down”. Together with this situation we seem to then turn to the world for help instead of turning to God for help. “Doctor I am depressed” seems to be the norm rather than the exception. Let me ask you all to try and do a very simple exercise that will change your life and the life of those around you (your family, work and/or school situations). Take some time to think of all the positive things that have happened to you in the last week – you will be surprized. I have noticed that there are more and more people who feel that “nothing is going right” but when we look at what is not going right we see that they are in actual fact creating their own problems by making the wrong decisions in life. Maybe we need to be less impulsive and take more time to think of the consequences of our actions BEFORE we decide to go ahead with something. In that way we will be more prepared and also possibly decide against doing some things.

But truth be told those same people are often not doing very much that God has asked us as people to do and so what right have we got to moan about what God has or has not done when we do not take the time to do what God is asking us to do. If we start doing more of what God wants us to do we will find that more things in our life goes right and when we are faced with some worldly challenges we will be able to face them easier due to the fact that we turn to God for help and not toward the world. We are in control of our own actions. Seek God in all that we do and make the right decision according to what God asks us to do and see how POSITIVE your life can actually become. Choose Jesus and enjoy life to the fullest.

Wonders van Rooibos Dames leer ken die wonders van Rooibos en geniet selfs ‘n koppie Rooibos tee na afloop van die vergadering. VLU Heidelberg het op Donderdag 14 Augustus by die AGS Kairos gemeente te Heidelberg vergader. Die tema van die oggend het gehandel oor omgewing- en gesondheid bewustheid. Nelda de Wet (voorsitster) het lede bedank wat gehelp het met die maak van Alzheimer kussinkies. Jaarliks plant die VLU ‘n boom en vanjaar is ‘n Witstinkhout boom op die AGS Kerk se parkeerterrein geplant. Cornelie Pienaar het tydens die verrigtinge die Rooibos plant bespreek. Die Rooibos plant is eintlik ‘n kruie plant en Rooibos tee word van die blare van die Aspalathus Linearis of “rooi bos” plant wat uitsluitlik voorkom in die Cederberg distrik van
Suid-Afrika gemaak. Rooibos tee word dikwels “rooi tee” genoem weens die helder rooi kleur van die blare wat gevorm word tydens die oksidasie en fermentasie proses. Wanneer die tee gebrou is, sal dit ‘n ryk rooi kleur hê en ‘n soet, neutagtige geur. Die tee hou ongelooflike voordele in vir die gesondheid. Dit is hoog in anti-oksidante en minerale. Daar word beweer dat die tee kanker voorkom, hoofpyne verminder, slapeloosheid teenstaan, die immuunstelsel versterk en sorg vir gesonde tande en bene. Rooibos tee vir ontspanning word alreeds vir eeue heen in sy geboorteland Suid-Afrika gebruik, maar dit is vinnig besig om ‘n gewilde opsie vir mense regoor die wêreld te word. Die oggend is afgesluit met Matt 6:26 waar die lede herinner is aan die grootheid en goedheid van die Heer. God sal aan al ons behoeftes voorsien as ons net op Sy woord vertrou. Borde waai! Jaarlikse Internationale Aand is ‘n treffer. Die dames van die Vroue Landbou Unie Heidelberg is nie net altyd besig om interassente gebak en handwerk te verrig nie. Een keer per jaar word daar ‘n geleentheid geskep om ‘n land te kies en van hulle disse voor te berei en partytjie te hou. Op Vrydag 15 Augustus was daar besluit om iets uit Griekeland te probeer. Gesinne van die Vlu lede het ook die geselligheid bygewoon en daar was
omtrent gesmul aan die eet en drinkgoed. Die atmosfeer was gemaklik en ontspanne en almal het heerlik gesels. Groot en klein het spontaan griekse danspassies uitgevoer terwyl die spesiale borde wat aangekoop is vir die geleentheid stukkend gegooi is op die vloer. Die kinders het daardie deel die meeste geniet, veral die groot manne. Hierdie wes seker een van die mees gewildste byeenkomste. Almal teenwoordig kon maak en breek net soos wat hul wil. Die borde het behoorlik gespat!

The City of Ekurhuleni has noted the disturbing misrepresentation in the media reports stating that the municipality owes Eskom nearly R1 billion. We wish to state on record that City of Ekurhuleni owes no monies to Eskom. “Every single bill received from Eskom, totalling R7 billion in the 2013/2014 financial year, ending June 30, 2014, was paid in time,� Ekurhuleni Spokesperson Themba Gadebe affirmed. The City of Ekurhuleni has a healthy financial position and reiterates that all Eskom bills are paid on time and in full.
Motorist arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunitions. Members of Germiston Flying Squad arrested a 31 years old male suspect along R550 Road in Heidelberg North on Wednesday August 6. The two Flying Squad Police Officials W/O LJ Mahlong and Cst Mabitsela were patrolling along R550 Road at Glenroy Farming area when they spotted a suspicious white Opel Corsa bakkie that was in front of them. They signalled the driver of the white Opel Corsa to stop. After the driver stopped, the passenger ran away into the darkness. Police searched the driver as well as the motor vehicle. They found a small black bag and when searching it, there was a black and silver pistol with 7 life ammunitions. The driver failed to produce licence of the firearm or to prove its legality. The suspect was arrested and the firearm with ammunitions was seized by the police. The arrested suspect will appear before Heidelberg magistrate Court soon.
Courier Hijacked A DHL Cigarettes courier motor vehicle was hijacked at gun point along Kismet Street, Shalimar Ridge Shopping Centre in Heidelberg. A 48 year old driver and his 42 year old crew member were delivering various brands of cigarettes to their customers on Friday, August 7. The suspects pointed a firearm at the driver who was in the back of the vehicle. They demanded the keys of the car and drove off with a DHL Courier vehicle. It is alleged that suspects fled in the direction of Ratanda Location. The hijacked vehicle was found abandoned along Vink Street at Boschfontein Plots. Boxes containing various brands of cigarettes with an estimated value of R100 000 was taken during the incident. There were 3 identified suspects. It is further alleged that suspects were using a beidge/yellow Toyota Corolla with white doors and an unknown registration number. Nuwe Pinkster gemeente open sy deure in Heidelberg vir musikante wat ‘n begeerte het om God met hul musiek te loof en aanbid. Pastore Philip en Betsie van Rhyn het die Symphonéa gemeente geopen op 3 Augustus 2014. Die gemeente is deel van die Nuwe Elim Pinkster Kerk wat gesetel is te Potchefstroom. Pastoor Betsie is reeds lankal bewus daarvan dat daar baie musikante is wat seergekry het maar dat hulle nog altyd die begeerte het om God met hulle musiek te loof en prys. Daarom het die Here dit op hulle harte gelê om so ‘n besonderse gemeente te stig en om dit hier in Heidelberg te doen. Alle musikante wat God wil loof en aanbid is welkom om hulle musiek instrumente te bring en saam te kom musiek maak. Die besondere Pastoorspaar weet dat musikante dit oneindig geniet wanneer mense kom luister en saamsing, so almal is welkom. Die huidige gebou waar die dienste gehou word, is in Spruytstraat 26, Sondag oggende om 10:00.
Lente is op ons drumpel asook Nigel Tuiste vir Bejaardes se jaarlikse kermis. Die kermis op 6 September is die tuiste se grootste fondsinsamelingsprojek gedurende die jaar. Dit vind plaas in die saal. Dis tydens hierdie geleentheid waar hulle ‘n poging aanwend om fondse te genereer vir die subsidiëring van losies vir hulle minderbevoorregte inwoners. Daar word ook gebruik gemaak gedurende hierdie dag om die publiek beter te leer ken. Inwoners is alreeds fluks aan die werk met hulle handwerk produkte wat te koop aangebied gaan word. Daar sal ook talle snuisterye en gebak beskikbaar wees aan die publiek.

Heidelberg SPCA held their annual general meeting on Saturday July 2014. The following aspects of 2013 were discussed. Kennel sponsorship: For only R100 per month a kennel can be sponsored and in that way the public can help feed and care for an animal in their care. Lesedi grant: Roelien Oelofse organised a submission to Lesedi for more funds to maintain and run the pound. Ans Botha was delegated to do the submission but is still awaiting an outcome. They are, however, thankful for the R15 000 received this year. Recycling project: This project is wellsupported by the people of Heidelberg who brings their tins, plastic and paper to the SPCA for recycling. You don’t even have to unload yourself as there is always someone on standby to help. Book sales: Book sales take place every last Saturday of each month at the Victorian Centre, next to the Wimpy. Every f irst Saturday of the month a book sale are held at the Product Market at Markon Realty. The book sale is one of the SPCA’s successful projects and is benef icial to them as well as to the public. You donate your unwanted books, and they sell it for only R10 per book. At this price every book is a bargain! The new container that they have obtained from the Lotto Grant will be appointed to serve as a book shop where people can come during the week to buy books. Shop hours will be the same as office hours: 9h00 – 16h00. Calendars: A photo competition was held
to involve the public. They had to send in a portrait of their pet. The twelve best photos were chosen by the Photo Club of Heidelberg. The photos were painted by artist Hester van Rensburg and used in the 2014 calendar. Nataniël: A Successful show was hosted by stand-up comedian and singer, Nataniël on May 16, 2013. Story competition: During 2013 a story competition for primary schools where presented. They had to use the words: Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in it. Two pictures were shown to inspire them. Snout report: The committee of the SPCA are responsible for fund raising as well as to educate the public about the “Animal protection act nr. 71 of 1962”. They make use of their monthly “report” to educate the public about animal care and news of their projects. Lotto grant: With the help of the South African Lottery, they were able to buy a second container, help more people to spay and neuter their pets, have extra funds for necessary equipment etc. Bucket list for 2014: better fencing, the fixing of drainpipes, ultra-violet lights for the kennels during winter, bakkie with a canopy, second vehicle and competition about Animal Protection Act, a dog show or an Open Day at the SPCA. Heidelberg SPCA needs your help. At the moment the committee consist of only six women. It involves only a little bit of your free time to help with fund raising projects and to attend their monthly meetings.

Facts about African Grey African grey parrots are considered by many scientists to be among the most intelligent animals in the world, according to the University of Michigan Museum of Zoology. The African Gray parrot is a monogamous bird, nesting solitarily in a tree with a hole for her eggs. The Grey Parrot’s main defence mechanism is fluffing up its feathers to look larger (and biting!). The grey parrot is considered to be one of the most accomplished mimics. Parrots, when raised by humans, show an amazing ability to mimic people and noisy objects, but in the wild they have never been observed mimicking. The cage should be in the busiest room of the house, because African grey parrots are very curious, and need the stimulation of watching the activity of family members.

Hy het sy liefde vir rugby ontdek as jong seuntjie en het bulletjie rugby gespeel. Vanaf 12 jarige ouderdom speel hy vir die Oos-Rand Bokkie span. Hy vertel dat sy pa Willem Tromp sy liefde deel vir die sport. Duan ondersteun die Blou Bulle en natuurlik die Springbokke. Sy gunsteling speler is die heelagter Wille le Roux. Sy hartsbegeerte
is om eendag die groen en goud trui oor sy kop te trek en vir Suid-Afrika uit te draf. Hy is ook ernstig oor sy akademie en wil graag Sportbestuur gaan studeer na sy skool opleiding.
