This issue marks the beginning of Baby Couture’s third year, and I couldn’t be more thrilled with how things are going with the magazine. God has been most kind, and so have our readers (you) and advertisers, which is why I want to begin this with a tight hug and sincere thanks out to you who have supported Baby Couture. More blessings and love to you all. It’s very exciting for us to witness, and in our way, contribute to how children’s fashion in the U.S. has evolved, and is continuing to grow. Children’s designers are getting better at their craft (evident in our fashion spreads), the fabrics getting more striking and their quality outstanding, and the industry in general garnering more buzz and awareness, especially with all the celebrities getting pregnant and expanding their families. A lot of the media’s consciousness with children’s clothing and products can be attributed to these public figures—but personally, it was giving birth to my daughter almost 5 years ago that opened my eyes to this fantastic world of fashion and goodies for my kids. I was, and still am, hooked on getting them the coolest clothes, shoes, toys, furniture, gadgets, you name it. Now that I have two girls, it’s double the fun. My utmost joy is in spending my time with, and providing for my girls. I rarely have “me” time, and I am certainly not complaining, because I figured I’d have all of that personal time when they’re grown and begging me to stop checking their cell phones or online diary—or whatever it is that kids keep private nowadays. I am totally gonna do to them what my mom did to me. It’s all about protection, ladies and gents, and I am watching my kids like a hawk. Our family recently made the decision to uproot from the East Coast to L.A. because of all the photo shoots we do here, and plus it got tiring with all the flying, transporting a zillion luggage around. All of us love the weather and the space, and I must commend the Governator for his wonderful job in keeping the streets clean. As of present, I’m stressing out because I still have to find a school for my eldest. It’s been so busy that I’ve only applied her to one, and I’ve heard from other parents that you have to apply to at least 5, a year or two ahead. I started 4 months ago, so if she doesn’t get in, I am *bleeped* (that’s as

far as I go when it comes to cussing now). When it comes to styling the fashion editorials and conceptualizing the issues, I feel much more in control, but this school drama is nerve-racking. Please wish us luck, and I’ll keep you all posted on how it turns out. One of the best things that have come out of our move is meeting new girl friends—two extremely gifted and kind artists whom I met at the cover photo shoot. I was telling Soleil Moon Frye that I absolutely adored her character Punky Brewster as a kid, and I am enormously happy to have covered both her pre- and post-pregnancy on our 2-cover special. It is always refreshing to know someone so caring and down-to-earth, and Soleil is just that. She is hardworking, loving, and is an inspiration for her ideals in keeping the world safe and clean for generations to come. What better way to celebrate the magazine’s second anniversary than immortalizing the birth and the toddler years of the babies of one of our most loved TV characters of all time? Please allow me to wish my daughter Maxine a great 2nd birthday this July (hence the number 2 is significant this issue). My love, our family would not be complete without your heartwarming smiles, and the way you randomly say “coconut” with such comedic timing, that it sounds like the funniest word we’ve ever heard. On a side note, I am a frozen coconut fanatic, and my health has never been better for it. We are also celebrating Father’s Day this June, so to my husband, thank you—in my eyes, our kids couldn’t have gotten a kinder, handsomer, more devoted dad. Since I was raised by a single mother, I am greeting my Mama a “Happy Father’s Day” as well, not because she got the title by default, but because she is the bestest Mom and Dad in one. Thanks, Ma. So happy 2nd birthday, Baby Couture, I love you. Margaritas for everyone, woot woot!

P.S. I photographed the story, “Surf’s Up!” It’s been almost 3 years since I shot for a magazine. Hope you like it.
