At last... spring is nearly over and it’s time

to start thinking about the warm summer months ahead, you should also consider your wardrobe. We can officially put away all our winter clothes and bring out our pastel colours, sandals, bikinis and maxi dresses. Thankfully, many of the trends that were in style for spring are still going to be in full force through to autumn, all it takes is a little modifying. The summer season always brings a degree of heat, but summer 2015 fashion is truly, irresistibly seductive. Beautiful tactile fabrics like silks, satins and soft wools. A palette of blush, putty, peach and rose, highlighted by magpie embellishments, could create a girlish effect, but instead conjures images of a woman in complete control – a woman who knows her allure is a combination of confidence, awareness and mystery.

The red carpet at the Costume Institute Gala, an annual fund-raiser for the Metropolitan Museum Costume Institute, is a crossroad of the arts, fashion and entertainment. Anna Wintour issues the dress code with the Costume Institute’s fashion exhibition in mind. Based around the theme of ‘China: Through the Looking Glass’, guests including Rihanna, Beyonce and Kim Kardashian came wearing their most show stopping gowns. Beyonce and Kim battled it out in sheer, crystal-covered creations (by Givenchy and Roberto Cavalli respectively). In fact, this may be Beyonce’s most daring outfit to date - she looked naked spare a few colourful crystals, which covered her modesty. Let us now come to Sarah Jessica Parker’s bold headdress, a bespoke Philip Treacy creation, which featured red horizontal flames. Amal Clooney attracted attention for wearing a ruffled, voluminous gown by designer John Galliano. Accessories came by way of her husband, that actor George Clooney.

See who wore what - from Jennifer Lopez and Kendall Jenner to Cara Delevingne and Cher…

When the sun is up, summer hair accessories are a must to keep your hair tame in the hot weather. Summer hair accessories are a great way to spruce up your hairstyles. Here are some of the hottest trends this summer to dress up your hair. Seen on celebrities like Vanessa Hudgens, headbands have been trendier than ever. This season’s headbands aren’t the kind you wore in school. They have a more sophisticated and upscale vibe now. Headbands are a simple way to add flair to any outfit.

Bows are the ultimate feminine accessories. A new unique way of wearing bows is at the base of your topknot or you could go with a traditional look of wearing a bow on top of your head with your hair down. Just try not to look too much like Minnie Mouse. But if bows are your thing, you will definitely find one of the many ways to wear them that works for you.

For all those festival goers and lovers of boho style, turbans are one of the hottest summer hair accessories for you. What better way to keep your hair out of your face while looking super stylish? The great thing about turbans is that there are so many different designs to choose from. You can rock a floral turban for a more feminine look or a darker patterned one for a more boho look. Either way, turbans are an easy way to spice up any outfit and look super trendy this summer.

Bobby pins are no longer for just keeping your hair in place. Bobby pins have been revamped this summer as a hot accessory that is cute and functional. You can DIY to accessorise your bobby pins with glitter, paint, or bows, or you can buy them already decorated. Either way, bobby pins are a great way for you to add a subtle touch of spark to any hairstyle.

When it gets hot, you may just resort to throwing your hair up in a bun or a ponytail. But why do that when you can add in any of these hot summer hair accessories for an instantly chic look? Floppy hats, baseball hats, fedoras. The list of fun hats you can wear never ends. No matter what your style, there is a hat that fits you perfectly. And the best thing about hats is that you can use them to cover your day old unwashed hair and still look stylish. So feel free to skip washing your hair for a day to have an excuse to break out your new favourite summer hair accessory.

Nothing is simpler than putting a comb in your hair and voila, your hairstyle is instantly transformed. Regardless of if you are wearing your hair up or down, any comb can go in your hair. Use a bolder, larger one if you want it as the focal point of your outfit. Or you can add some spark with a few smaller combs that have small embellishments. BMAG 28

Get rid of those boring black and tan ponytail holders and replace them with fun and stylish updated holders. Not only can you use ponytail holders to create a variety of hairstyles ranging from athletic to romantic, you can also get a variety of fun ponytail holders to go along with those hairstyles. Try one with a large flower or feather for a fun accent to your style, or for a more understated look, use a colourful ponytail that contrasts with your hair colour.

It’s hard to look great during the sultry summer weather. However, there are a few important summer beauty tips, which will help you to look beautiful all summer long. Whether you are on the beach or at work, try out these helpful hints to look your best no matter how humid or hot it gets this summer.

1. Wear sunscreen

2. Use lighter beauty products

3. Use waterproof beauty products

4. Revitalise your hair

5. Try cooling beauty products

6. Put your beauty products in the fridge

Although it’s important to wear sunscreen every day and every season, a good quality sunscreen is a must during the summer season since it helps to protect your skin from sun damage that can cause aging and even skin cancer. Moreover, sunscreen keeps splotching and freckling at bay so you look gorgeous the whole day. The chlorine of the pool and the sun can really damage your hair. Luckily, there are a few quick and easy ways to revitalise your hair during the summer months. For blondes, rinsing the hair with baking soda and some baby shampoo is a proven way to revitalise the hair. If you are brunette, rinse your hair with white vinegar. For redheads, chamomile tea is the best option.

7. Use bronzer

Use a good quality bronzer on your face to look more gorgeous during the summer season. Bronzer will add the right touch of colour and shine to your face and will give you a healthy glow, of course, if you don’t overdo it. If you don’t want to use bronzer, opt for a light apricot or peach blush.

BMAG 32

Summer is not a time for thick and creamy beauty products. When it gets hot, a thick foundation and eye shadow will slide right away. To avoid it, opt for lighter beauty products. Instead of a thick foundation use tinted moisturiser. A good quality lip-gloss will complete your summer look.

Cooling beauty products are not easy to find, but they are perfect for summer. Some cooling beauty products contain menthol to give your face, scalp or skin a cool blast and help you look refreshed. When the temperature soars, beauty products that contain palladium can also give you some relief.

One of the most important summer beauty tips to follow is to use waterproof beauty products when you can. Consider using waterproof mascara, waterproof eye shadow, waterproof eyeliner and waterproof concealer, and your look will stay in place no matter whether you sweat or swim.

If you can’t afford or find cooling beauty products, place your regular stuff in the fridge for a while. However, be careful since some beauty products can lose their effectiveness if you leave them overnight. Just place your body lotion in the fridge for a couple of minutes before applying it and enjoy great results.

Hot temperatures during the summer season can make it hard to keep your makeup in place and prevent it from melting. Hopefully, these tips will help you look your best this season.

“I was born in Hammersmith, London while my parents lived in the UK. My father had studied law while he also worked part-time in the evenings to fund his own studies. He was a mature student, and in those days grants were only available to a very limited number of students indeed. My mother also worked full-time. I have many fond memories of London, and I was especially fascinated by all the transport aspects of London, the big red double decker buses and the Underground network especially. For me, in those days it was as if each and every Underground station led to a new and different world, with its own unique places of interest, parks and people. I knew the Underground network very well and almost off by heart by the age of 7, especially the Piccadilly Line, which I can still parrot out parts of today: Sudbury Hill, Sudbury Town, Alperton, Park Royal… Acton Town. I recall leading my grandfather, when he once came over to visit us, into the Underground to explore new stations, each station tiled differently, stations with what seemed then magical names in those younger years, the smell of the tube especially as the tunnel wind signalled the arrival of a train and the scarpering mice that lived within the darkness of the dust in the rails. It was only when I felt truly and utterly lost that I turned around and told him so. He was not impressed to say the least, he said “este niño!” but I knew exactly how to take the return line back to where I started. Quite an adventure! Imagine a man well into his 50’s, totally unfamiliar with London and the transport network being led by the hand by a “teeny tot” of a 7 year old. A very brave man, indeed! Its funny how things work, and how around 35 years later, I was to become Minister for Transport and Traffic in Gibraltar. In those days, jobs for newly qualified barristers in Gibraltar were very limited and it would not be until 1977 that saw our family coming back home, after my father was successful in his application and became Registrar of the Supreme Court. I remember my excitement to learn that I was coming back home, to the friends that I had made on my yearly holidays to my grandmother’s flat in Alameda Estate. No more dreaded Spanish lessons in London. My parents were keen that I remained fluent in Spanish. On my return, I became fluent in Spanish within months, well Llanito “Spanish” which I was most happy about – a real crash course! I was for some reason, always keen on traffic matters and I would count the cars that had to stop to give way to me, if any at all in those days, as I crossed the numerous zebra crossings on my way to Main Street. Then there was no traffic, so much so that we would have to wait what seemed ages for a car to come along Red Sand’s Road to see whose matchbox would be squashed by an on-coming vehicle tyre and who would be the winner and placed the matchbox in exactly the right place among my group of friends. We would play football on the street then and stop very infrequently to allow a car to drive past. Then one of our neighbours bought a new sports car, a Mazda RX7 with a wankel engine, imagine us all peering into the engine of that car with bucket seats. I studied Nutrition and Food Science at Oxford Polytechnic, which had become Oxford Brookes University by the time I graduated. I then returned to London to complete my postgraduate training in Dietetics, becoming a qualified, state-registered dietitian in 1994. Many may remember my diets “la dieta de Balban” which I prescribed to many during the 10 years that I practiced privately. These were tough times, as a young family, not managing to secure permanent employment, which was probably one of the main reasons that made me strive to join the GSLP and get involved in politics in an attempt to try to improve the way things were then and strive to give opportunities to all; I could easily associate myself with the policies of the GSLP, but that is a different story perhaps for another time.

which took up more time as each election neared. I was active within the Gibraltar Taxi Association and served as Treasurer and later on as Secretary for a number of years. As a student I worked as a lifeguard, shelf-filler and labourer for the MOD. We even had to carry out refuse duties for a few days when the MOD refuse collectors had been on strike. We wretched due to the smell and sight of maggots as the refuse had been fermenting for quite a number of days in the heat.

I have never been afraid of rolling my sleeves up and I did many jobs in conjunction with my dietetics to try to supplement my young family’s income. I worked as a waiter, driving instructor, freelance photographer and a taxi driver. I worked as a taxi driver for about 8 years before being elected into Government. This gave me the flexibility and freedom to be able to supplement my family’s income and run dietetic clinics on certain days of the week. This also allowed me the time to work for the Party,

That did not stop me working for the Party and I continued to work behind the scenes helping to build up the membership and working on the core support that Joe Bossano had built up over the preceding 40 years. Joe was a guiding light to me. We chatted for many long hours. I think that his magnetism within the party has had us all in a trance at one point or another. A true leader of people and a man deserving the respect of all regardless of whether a person agrees with his politics and beliefs or not.

BMAG 38

I had been an active member of the GSLP for many years before standing for election with the Party in 2007. On this occasion I remained just out and missed a Parliamentary seat by a mere 100 votes.

In 2011 it did not take much thought to decide to put my name down again as a candidate. Competition was very stiff as there was a high expectation that we could make it into Government after what seemed like an endless 16 years in Opposition. I received just enough support, and was proud to be able to stand as a member of the GSLP / Liberal Party line-up. After that moment, it all seems like a blur. It was a massive emotional voyage, which had me partly in awe, partly in panic, yet filled with pride that I was to once again be privileged to stand for the Party that I had been part of for so many years. From that moment on, we were a team, we supported each other and we worked together and we spent many days out and about in what seemed the busiest time of my life. Our recently elected Party Leader, Fabian Picardo, showed great strength, but was also clearly a very human leader, with very down to earth traits. He showed emotion, and was realistic. He had very large shoes to fill. We were all unsure what the outcome of that election would be, but we worked hard and Fabian led with might. We were kept on tenterhooks until the very last moment on that long night of the count at the John Macintosh Hall, and it was probably the longest, hardest night I have ever faced with my family. But we made it and that same morning we were already on our way to breakfast and then to meet the Governor. It still remains as if a dream. I especially remember the support that I received and that I will always cherish from the late Charles Bruzon and someone who instantly became a friend to me, John Cortes. We still meet regularly to share our successes and sometimes release stress. I remember sitting at the Chief Minister’s new offices at No 6, camera flashes firing. I was to become Minister for Traffic, Health & Safety and Technical Services. That was a proud moment for my family, my three daughters and my partner Gina, who had worked so hard, encouraged me and supported my decision to run for office.

plaque that is unveiled, each new commitment that is fulfilled, each action that makes a positive impression on us as a people, each home given to persons on the waiting list, each new flat that is built, the sense of anxious expectation as the community sees new housing projects take shape before our very eyes, week by week, month by month, each dream that comes true for someone, each life that one changes, each smile, and each thank you. These are the things that make it all worth it. This is the reason I entered politics. Opportunity is available everywhere we look, from each new birth as a result of modern fertilisation techniques to the empowerment of individuals to set up new businesses, allowing everyone the ability to prosper and progress in life. We strive together as a Government, as a team to solve problems, to seek advice from other members of Cabinet and experts from within the Civil Service and beyond. There are things that simply have to be, but there are so many other things that can be changed and that we are able to change on a daily basis for the better, improving the way we live now and in the future, bringing about fairness and prosperity to our nation. As we now approach the end of what will hopefully be our first term of office, many projects have already taken shape and the fruits of all of our hard work are showing though.

PERSONALLY WHAT HAVE BEEN YOUR MAIN ACHIEVEMENTS IN GOVERNMENT?

There are too many to mention here but I will touch upon the ones that I feel are more of interest to your readers.

TRAFFIC PLAN

Since that fateful day in December 2011, Gibraltar has changed in so many positive ways. But of course that would be my opinion.

On my part, we are now at the stage of a Draft Sustainable Traffic, Transport and Parking Plan. We are collating all feedback to prepare an all-encompassing final report that will form our working document – In the interim; there are some things that had no need to wait. The pilot pedestrian Countdown timer at the Haven, for example, has been an enormous success. The new Speed Limit Monitors as our first stage in traffic calming, speed-reducing measures have also been very well received. Speed cameras located at key locations will shortly follow. A pedestrian crossing at Ragged Staff is also in progress. This will resolve many pedestrian crossing issues surrounding the Trafalgar Interchange.

The satisfaction of being able to do things that really make a difference, that help to build Gibraltar, is something that is truly a gift granted by the people of Gibraltar, a privilege and an honour. That our indelible mark remains for our children and generations to come, in creating the history of our proud land, each new law that is signed, each commemorative

We are now operating a very successful pilot roundabout in the vicinity of the old Med Rowing Club on Glacis Road that has seen major benefits to traffic flow in the area. The record breaking Eastern Beach Car-park, built on time and within budget just before summer last, and South Pavilion Car-Park.

When our dear colleague Charles passed away, the CM gave be the added responsibility of Minister for Housing, relieving me of Health & Safety, which became part of the Ministry for Employment. I was very proud to be able to continue the excellent work that Charles had begun.

The Traffic Plan is something that has received much public attention and media interest. We are all affected by traffic and parking issues. Public transport is also something very much at the forefront of our daily lives. The new buses are used by many these days and they provide a cool, and comfortable, temperature-controlled environment for users. We wish to encourage as many people as possible to use these buses and opt for greener, more sustainable modes of transport. It is important that we do not forget the importance of walking and even cycling. These are very much close to my heart as this not only helps the traffic problem, but it also helps the environment and to control our weight and keep us healthy. The perfect solution to many things!

THE ID CARD PROJECT

The recently announced ID Card Project which will change the way we travel throughout Europe and will form the backbone to our e-Government project. This project has been a great challenge, one that gives me enormous satisfaction. It was an honour to be asked by the Chief Minster to lead in this key project. We have had a large and strong team working together and we have seen input from many civil servants making it possible to fulfil this vast manifesto commitment in time. We will be issuing the updated ID-Cards sometime at the end of June or early July. They will address all the major issues that gave users problems when travelling within the EU with our present card and will give us all access via an embedded chip within the card to the Government’s eGov portal. Without the professional team that makes up the civil service this project would not have been possible.

A NEW DRIVING LICENCE

The new Photocard Driving Licence, something that should have been well on its way at the time we took office and had not been commenced upon, was introduced shortly after taking office. This card is so far superior to the old cardboard driving licenses we had. They are far more secure, easy to carry fitting in any wallet and falls in line with the standard European Driving Licence.

CRASH HELMET CAMPAIGN

One of the first things that I did when we first took office was to legislate against the use of the “quita multas” type of helmet that was running rampant at the time of the 2011 elections. There had been a number of accidents involving users of this type of helmet that had resulted in serious facial injuries. The risk of injury to the head was also very large. The BMAG 39

Ministry undertook a very well run campaign, which sought the support of the motorbiker fraternity. The Gibraltar Motorcycle Club together with the Harley Davidson Club wholly and fully supported the campaign and we are very grateful for their input. The initiative was supported across the board and we were pleased to tick off that commitment from our list very early on, which could have profound benefits on safety for motorcyclists.

MOTORCYCLE SAFETY

Following on from our commitment to safety on our roads, we introduced the CBT (Compulsory Basic Training) for young prospective motorbike riders who are now taught the all-important basic skills before taking to our roads. Before being granted a learner’s licence all applicants must undertake a course that teaches them how to ride a motorbike and learn the all-important Highway Code, recognising street signs and road markings. This has given great peace of mind to parents, although there can never be total peace of mind for a parent when their child is riding a motorbike. I have received great public feedback on this initiative.

MAIN STREET – “FILLING IN THE GAPS”

One item that is sure to interest your reader is the commencement of the Main Street Paving “filling of the gaps” project. This is another manifesto commitment that is expected to increase the safety of pedestrians along Main Street but especially those who use high-heeled shoes. Main Street’s paving unfortunately includes deep ridges and gaps between the paving blocks. This has caused many heels to get locked in between the cobbles creating opportunity for injury. We are using a special polymer resin to ensure the spaces between the paving blocks are adequately filled to prevent accidents.

“LA CALLE COMEDIA”

Surprisingly, something appearing trivial compared to the larger core projects that we have embarked upon, such as bringing Gibraltar’s old colloquial street names back to life, for example “La Calle Comedia” and “La Cuesta de Mr Bourne”, has been one of those little things that perhaps has given me the most personal satisfaction, receiving vast positive public interest. We placed street signs in the most symbolic and emblematic streets throughout the old town so that we could record these as part of our heritage; one that I felt would slowly die away as generations moved on. There are other projects which I have had close to heart during my tenure as Minister for Housing, the ongoing refurbishment of the estates, recently personally seeing how Anderson House has been transformed, Glacis, Laguna, Moorish Castle Estate and the new improved service being provided by Housing’s reporting office. Only 6 months ago during the Cabinet reshuffle of Ministerial responsibilities, I was given Transport and responsibility for the Port. Now I am Minister for Transport, Traffic & Technical Services. A portfolio that I hold close to my heart and I am very happy with. To conclude, I am very proud of being part of this team, a Government that has managed to bring about more positive change within Gibraltar than any other party in such a small timeframe. Our successes across the board have been noteworthy indeed, two new schools, a University for Gibraltar, 1000 new affordable homes, the refurbishment of the once forgotten estates, a new small boats marina, a new psychiatric unit, Commonwealth Park, achieving the lowest levels of unemployment ever seen locally, a new bank for Gibraltar, the Gibraltar Music Festival, a new ID Card. I sincerely hope that I have served Gibraltar well in the short time that I have had the privilege to do so and I hope that I will be able to continue doing so for as long as both my party and the electorate wishes me to do so. I thank all those that have helped me along the way, supported me and believed in me especially those beautiful four smiling faces that I will go back to tonight, when I finish work.”

Nowadays there are so many secrets to a long-lasting and harmonic marriage. You should realise that marriage requires constant work and struggle for mutual understanding and happiness. Be ready to face the reality of marriage and do your best to maintain love, passion and friendship regardless of all possible problems and barriers. We hope this article will give you greater chances to overcome the difficulties of a family life.

Develop your identity

When two people get married, they become one in making financial decisions and raising children. They usually get so overloaded with various tasks that can easily lose their identity. Moreover, women tend to want to please their husbands and make sacrifices in order to do it. This recipe for unhappiness can make you feel miserable and despondent. It is necessary to learn early on how to compromise, but not give up. You shouldn’t forget to do things you like. Don’t forget to meet your friends at least once a week. Also, make time for your favourite hobby.

Be in touch

Unfortunately, many of us have busy schedules and sometimes don’t have an opportunity to communicate with the spouse. Nowadays it is more convenient to use electronic technology to “keep in touch” during the day. Send a message or call your beloved to share things and feelings about your day. Such type of communication will help you find more topics to speak about in the evening. Don’t wait for a date night; communicate with one another on a daily basis instead.

Focus on your common needs

One of the most significant secrets of a successful marriage is to focus on your common needs. It is necessary for every person to seek to do good for the other person, instead of fighting over “what about me.” Ensure yourself that you are meeting your spouse’s needs. If your needs are already met you should enjoy your life. A common desire to satisfy your common needs is the basis of a long-lasting and healthy marriage.

Positive outlook

You should realise that negative outlook can greatly affect the relationship in your marriage. If one spouse is a depressing figure in the couple, it can make any marriage unhappy. Stay positive and you will significantly improve the atmosphere in your family for better. It is necessary to develop the bright side of your mind by thinking positively. Moreover, you should help your spouse get rid of negativity and depressive thoughts, if necessary.

Believe in your love

Perhaps the best proof of love is trust. Trust is the core element of any kind of relationships. When you trust in your love, you become invincible and strong enough to overcome harsh realities of life and various difficulties together. Hard times are the best periods to check the strength and sincerity of your love.

A taboo word

When you get married you’d better forget about the existence of the word ‘Divorce.’ Divorce is not the best way to solve your problems. You shouldn’t speak and even think about it. Divorce is a destruction of your marriage. It’s better to put all efforts in finding the way out of all difficult situations. Such strategy will make your marriage permanent and strong.

Ask happily married couples for advice

If you have an opportunity and desire, you can ask happily married couples how to live in peace and love for so long. These wise and experienced people will cheerfully share their ideas and give you a piece of advice. Every couple has a key secret of their own happiness. BMAG 42

Hello ladies! So your best friend is getting married and she has asked you to fulfil an important role in her bridal party.

She has asked you to be her Maid of Honour… Congratulations! This marks a special and beautiful moment in your friendship that you shall both cherish for a long time. By Sean Vincent Acris

The role may entail some responsibility, but otherwise this should be an enjoyable time spent planning and prepping together from now, right until the actual wedding day. Being best friends, you should instinctively know what the bride ‘likes and dislikes’ are in terms of style choices. In fact you have probably already planned the big day all before during countless sleepovers and girly chats as teenagers. As Maid of Honour it should be an easy process and you’ll most probably be the number one person to advise the bride! Be confident in giving her your honest opinion, when asked for it, but also support her in making final decisions and checking items off the wedding planning list. During the process your best friend will certainly get emotional, stressed and perhaps a little bit overwhelmed. As a good friend you can help reassure and remind her that this is a wonderful time in her life and so she must enjoy the process! Sometimes all you may need to do is offer a little reassuring and the rest will be fine. Don’t stress yourself either, this should be a fun time for both to treasure.

BMAG 44

MAID OF HONOUR’S 4 STEP PLAN 1. Get a pinterest account you can both share. Pin ideas for décor, flowers and other details. You can brainstorm together and make it a fun and creative experience!

2.

Shopping! Book some time out and hit the high street together. It’s probably what you already do best as friends! However this time help her find the perfect bridesmaid dresses to suit and fit all.

3. Plan a Spa day for the bridal party to get pampered! Planning a wedding is a busy time, so make sure you take some time out to also relax and feel gorgeous before the big event.

4.

Be the agony aunt for any hiccups incurred along the way and be supportive by turning a negative into a positive. Consider yourself her Maid of Honour and guardian angel. Sometimes it’s just about listening!

7 Ways Technology Ruins YOUR RELATIONSHIP... We live in the high-technology world full of wonderful gadgets that make our lives simpler. When it comes to building a strong and healthy relationship, technology may play a fatal role. Every day we see many couples sitting in a restaurant or café looking at their tablets and phones. We often spend more time with our gadgets than with our partners and complain about relationship problems. Communication is one of the most important things in any relationship. It helps build a happy relationship and start a happy family. Just ask your grandparents about how they spent their youth without modern gadgets and how they met each other. We’re more than sure that they will tell you that their youth wasn’t boring and the dates they had were fun and happy. Stop updating your social media accounts each day. Instead, spend more time communicating with your significant other. Here are seven ways technology ruins your relationship:

5. Fights

Fighting with your partner is okay at times, but when you fight with him over technology it’s not healthy. Not only do you waste your precious time on the unimportant things like snooping into your partner’s social media account or his or your friends’ pages, Facebook stalking his ex’s girlfriend or your ex’s new girlfriend, and going through your partner’s phone.

6. Affects your sleep patterns

Whether you suffer from insomnia or your partner has trouble falling asleep every other night, it may be because of technology. Checking your phone or tablet right before sleep is a bad habit that can affect your relationship as well as your sex life. Watching TV before going to bed is a bad habit too.

7. You share too many details on social media Nowadays it’s trendy to share each detail of But before posting any intimate details of your your significant other will feel about that. You any details of your fights. Keep things private relationship.

your life on social media. relationship, consider how should also avoid posting to have a long and happy

1. Online flirting

Flirting online is a good way to kill time and make new friends. However, it’s also a number one killer of even the strongest and happiest relationship. If your partner is talking intimately to his female friend online, you may think it’s not cheating, but you don’t know what will happen tomorrow.

2. Video game addiction

If your partner spends too much time playing video games, it’s a warning sign. Studies show that many couples break up because of video game addiction. Women can also become addicted to video games so pay attention to how much time you spend playing games daily. But the best thing you and your partner can do is to go for a walk and have a small picnic in the park, without any video games and “smart” devices.

Although technology has many benefits, it has much more disadvantages. Use it wisely to avoid any misunderstandings, fights and other problems in your relationship. After all, what is more important your expensive smartphone or your partner? Remember, technology addiction is similar to drug cravings – it can ruin your whole life.

3. Health

It’s not a secret that technology affects our health, especially mental health. You may become anxious, nervous and depressed because of technology. You may snap at your partner when you don’t really mean to, and this can ruin your relationship. Try to unplug from TV, tablet, computer, and smartphone use as often as possible to save your relationship and health.

4. Phone addiction

Are you addicted to your smartphone? Does your partner spend too much time with his phone? Phone addiction is a common thing these days. Many people are trying to get rid of this addiction but it’s not that easy. Turn off your phones every time you spend time together to improve your relationship. BMAG 47

When you think of a canopy bed, you might think of a French palace bedroom. But even before canopies were associated with wealth and privilege, they were used to give noblemen and women warmth and privacy. As the picture of comfort and riches progressed through the 16th century, the canopy beds of the wealthy became more and more ornate. However, we can be thankful that style has progressed towards a certain simplicity. While most of us don’t have the luxury of heavy carved canopy beds, we can achieve a light and airy canopy look. Just look at these lovely canopy beds and you’ll convince yourself that you need one.

Fringe, fringe, fringe. Even the boho stylists can get into the canopy bed trend with a fringe canopy like this. It sets your bed apart without being too frilly.

Some of us can’t afford a whole canopy, which is when we get creative. Hang curtains on the four corners of your bed and it will look just like you own a four-poster.

Yes chandelier, we’re looking at you. Believe it or not, there is a way to hang a light inside a canopy bed. It looks simply perfect for some late night reading.

A small classic canopy style is simply gorgeous for a little girl’s room. You can easily achieve this look with a couple white curtains and a curved shower curtain rod.

How adorable is this kids bed canopy? It’s just a stick and a linen curtain? Suddenly their beds will become a boat and a fort and the cosiest place to sleep and play.

So you want your bedroom to look like it’s from a French palace, and that’s okay! Try some fabric with real flavour like velvet or satin and top it off with a feather pendant.

BMAG 50

Simplicity goes a long way when it comes to the bedroom. Create the illusion of a canopy by draping fabric through hanging rings. You’ll get an unhindered yet luxurious look.

When it comes to canopy beds, the more fabric the better. Don’t be afraid to buy more than you really need and overlap the extra length.

Does your bedroom need a big makeover on a little budget? Trade in a traditional headboard for a DIY canopy like this one. All it takes is a piece of fabric and some curtain rods.

Hang some paper stars from a bare canopy bed so you can literally sleep under the stars. Bonus points if your stars are made with metallic paper.

If you’re lucky enough to own a canopy bed, consider leaving it curtainless. Paired with a pretty linen duvet, you won’t get any more French rustic than that. BMAG 51

There’s nothing like draping mosquito netting to give any room an airy feel. Hang yours up at the corners straight over your bed for the look of a canopy without all the fabric.

While there’s nothing wrong with white canopies, maybe your bedroom needs the pop of a colourful patterned one. It’s like medieval and Indian styles came together and had a baby.

BMAG 52

If you really want a canopy that’s a little more traditional, try hanging some sheer curtains from the ceiling and then wrapping moulding around them so they look built in. No one will ever know the difference.

Some homes have places that you’d rather not put on display. If your bedroom ceiling is one of those, use a ceiling canopy to hide the imperfections plus make the room look cosier.

During the warm weather months, there is nothing better than inviting a lively group of friends into your backyard (if you have one) for some alfresco dining and

fun

enjoying

the

balmy evening air. There are only four essentials required for the perfect backyard party… One, you need a patio space. Entertaining on grass can be difficult, especially for your lady acquaintances that wear heels to parties. Two, you need seating space. Obviously guests will need someplace to sit and enjoy their glass of wine. Three, you need table space. Having a table, big or small, will give you the option to serve food outdoors or play a game of cards. Four, you need some kind of lighting. A bright backyard enables the party to go on and on. Now before you sink into an unimaginative despair, take a look at these ideas that will inspire you to create your very own outdoor entertaining space and see which would look best in your backyard.

In some ways this month, you have the weight of the world on your shoulders. In other ways, you have the world at your feet. So, which of the two should you be focusing time, effort and attention toward? Coming weeks offer an opportunity to make progress in an area of your world where you’ve patiently waited for the chance to make it happen. The only proviso surrounds a need to enlist help from certain quarters. What you want to make happen requires input or assistance from someone else. The good news is they’re both willing and very able to provide it.

A question that might rear its head during coming weeks could surround, ‘who is right and who is wrong?’ Arriving at an answer might be easier if you weren’t so very aware of others believing they know what’s best for you and putting forth strong arguments for being ‘right’. You, on the other hand, know yourself better than anyone else and are therefore best placed to know what’s right and, particularly, what’s right for you. That’s why, despite difficulty that might arise from doing so, you need only listen to one voice this month… yours! Trust that and all will be fine.

SAGITTARIUS

Imagine being stuck in a traffic jam stretching as far as the eye can see. Imagine as well that, in the distance, you can see the queue of vehicles rising up a gentle hill. Indication that the jam has cleared will probably arrive once vehicles in the distance start moving and then it will only be a matter of time before you start moving, too. In a similar way, removal of an obstacle this month will allow you to start seeing progress where you’ve wanted for some time to see it. However, you will need to allow a bit of time in order for it to become clear how clear the road ahead really is!

PISCES

19FEB - 20MAR

Authors and scriptwriters are often criticised for endings they create for their stories. What makes sense to them in terms of how a story of their creation ends is sometimes met with confusion or worse by others who often fail to see how the ending has been set up through a logical and complex series of events. This month, you know precisely how you want a particular story in your world to end and why. You’re better placed than anyone to recognise the series of events that have brought you to it. That’s why you needn’t heed any criticism likely to come your way.

21JUN - 22JUL

We hear people say leaders are ‘born’. How often do we see wristbands on newborn babies that read ‘Leader’? Leaders emerge and have a tendency to do so when a need arises in some way for someone to take charge of a situation. Not all leaders do so with absolute confidence initially. Sometimes, it takes time for them to understand why leadership is required and recognise ways in which they’re best placed to provide it. During June, it will become clear you have a challenge to rise to. You will not only rise to it successfully but will inspire others from doing so.

How much easier would life be if only a certain person saw something in a situation you see and simply agreed with you? Chances are, the person in question is asking themselves the very same question where you’re concerned! So, that leaves a stalemate to be dealt with and resolved and that’s what focus will be squarely on during coming weeks. Interestingly, it appears neither of you is truly ‘right; or ‘wrong’ and what’s needed is an agreement that can arise simply from accepting each other’s’ point of view. Be flexible, be accommodating and, above all, be willing to listen.

Pretend you’re standing on one side of a wide river you wish to cross. No bridge is available but there are several boulders protruding from the water that you know, if you stepped very carefully from one to the other, would facilitate crossing to the other side safely. So, all you need to do is ensure each step is made carefully and deliberately. A similar scenario exists in your world this month. To make progress or achieve a particular result will require you to take very careful and focused steps, one at a time. Apply strict methodology to a plan and success is assured.

What is it we’re told about sleeping dogs? We’re supposed to ‘let them lie’. Leaving sleeping dogs alone is one thing but how we do we navigate a sleeping dragon? Surely, more caution is required lest we inadvertently and regretfully disturb the beast. Chances of finding yourself having to be wary in the presence of a dragon are slim this month but the analogy about applying caution is relevant. An issue that appears daunting or intimidating can be carefully sidestepped successfully this month. Don’t succumb to a belief it poses any problem, despite how it appears.

LEO

23JUL - 23AUG

If we do what we fear most, then our greatest fear is likely to disappear. We can all recall times when we put off and put off doing something we knew needed doing and our reluctance to face what needed facing was usually caused by fear in some way. Yet, we can also recall times when we summoned courage, faced what needed facing and discovered to our delight that our fear was misplaced the whole time. Coming weeks bring a chance for you to face and conquer successfully a fear that has held you back unfairly for too long. Then, prepare to be delighted.

23OCT - 21NOV

Anyone who was friends with King Midas knew where to go if they wanted something turned into gold. Midas, being the accommodating person he was, probably obliged any requests, too. It required little effort on his part but both he and the person asking for assistance were oblivious to a much bigger issue waiting to present itself through Midas being so intent to use his power and influence in the ways he did. You have power and influence available to you this month. However, what’s needed is a realistic attitude adopted to how wisely – and sparingly - you should use both.

20JAN - 18FEB

We’re led to believe the best things in life, in addition to being free and worth waiting for, are worth fighting for. The need to fight for something that could be provided free or with levels of patience applied is surely wasted energy! There are times though when we feel something we achieve or attain is worth more if it has been achieved or attained with vast effort or struggle. This month, refrain from believing something you want and need can only be available in such ways. You might find what’s worth waiting for is granted in way that could even be described as free!

20APR - 20MAY

Perhaps, one day, someone will invent the 25 or 26-hour day. Maybe, that would remove urgency from all we believe we don’t have enough time to fulfil. As June commences, you could believe time isn’t on your side in ways you wish it was. With ‘this’ commitment needing honouring and ‘that’ obligation needing fulfilling, you could, at first, see the coming month as one that involves only meeting crucial deadlines that benefit everyone but you. As June unfolds, expect to see how you’re the one benefiting and how more flexibility exists in some ways than you thought it did!
