Coats & Jackets As the weather begins to get colder, it’s important to start thinking about shopping for the perfect women’s coat to bundle up in. A winter coat is essential if you live in a cold climate. Your winter coat is going to be one of your bigger clothing purchases and one of most used items in your closet during the winter, so you should enjoy wearing it. If your outerwear is right for your life and for your shape, you will look your best, no matter the occasion. Consider where you want to wear your winter coat most often. You may want something that is going to fit your daily activities. If every day of your week includes dressing up and going into an office, you would be better off with a classic tailored wool coat. If your day involves taxiing your children to music lessons and sports practices, then you may prefer a sporty parka. Or, you may be shopping for a weekend coat. Think about how your coat will fit into your wardrobe. You’ll be layering your coat over all of your other clothes, so you’ll want the styles to mesh. If your look leans toward preppy, a leather motorcycle jacket might not look quite right, but a lined trench coat may be perfect.

As the winter season sets in, it’s outerwear that becomes the most defining part of your wardrobe. From the cosiest coats to the coolest jackets, here are the styles that are on-trend in 2015.

Miss Gibraltar’s 2nd Princess, Claire Nuñez represented Gibraltar with a perfect performance at the Miss Supranational 2014 in Poland. It was a night not to be forgotten with the crowning of Miss India as Miss Supranational 2014. Asha Bhat, 22, won over 70 stunners from all around the globe. It’s India’s first Grand Slam title since 2000, when Pryianka Chopra won the Miss World crown. 2nd place went to Miss Thailand, 3rd was Miss Gabon, 4th was Miss USA, and in 5th place was the hometown girl, Miss Poland. Miss Supranational Europe was Miss Czech Republic, Miss Supranational Asia & Oceania was Miss Myanmar, Miss Supranational Africa was Miss Equatorial Guinea, and Miss Supranational Americas was Miss Puerto Rico. Special prizes’ winners were: Canada - Miss Congeniality, Denmark - Miss Photogenic, Sweden - Miss Bikini, Malaysia - Best Smile, England - Miss Elegance, Myanmar - Miss Internet and China - Top Model. This month we caught up with Claire to talk about her life, hobbies and to share her experience at this once in a lifetime opportunity. Tell us about yourself.

“I am currently working in Westside Comprehensive School after having obtained a teaching degree. As a sports enthusiast I work closely with the Gibraltar Netball Association. One of my other hobbies, which I have recently discovered, is baking, although this does not fare well with my passion for beauty pageants. I thoroughly enjoy travelling, having visited many countries and look forward to exploring new destinations in the future.”

What made you enter the Miss Gibraltar beauty pageant?

“The Miss Gibraltar pageant has always been something I have aspired to do. When I entered Miss Glamour in 2008 I experienced a thrill whilst being on stage, which I really needed to live again. I love a challenge and I knew this was the right thing for me.”

Share with us your experience at the Miss Supranational pageant.

“The day I arrived was a little daunting, I went to lunch on my own and thought to myself, ‘it’s time to remove any inhibitions and just go for it.’ It was just like in the films where a new girl walks into the school canteen and doesn’t know where to sit. Thankfully the girls I approached were very warming and in no time I befriended 70 beautiful ladies. During the first few days we had filming and our official photographs taken. Soon after we began rehearsals for the night of the final. These routines were a little complex BMAG 8

for some, particularly those with very little dance experience. It was very demanding waking up very early in the morning and rehearsing till late at night. At times we had very little energy left in us, yet we still had a blast rehearsing, making every moment we had together count. Visiting the city of Krakow was one of my highlights, in particular the salt mines. The artwork the miners had created was remarkable. Another of my favourite moments was the participating in Miss Fashion World, where we modelled clothes from local designers and also competed in our national costume. My costume wasn’t the traditional one worn by past Miss Gibraltar winners. I borrowed Charlene Figueras’ who once wore it in Miss Earth. I feel this costume was Gibraltar in a nutshell. It had the sun, the rock with our national flower, the candytuft and finally our beautiful Mediterranean Sea. Before I knew it two weeks had flown by and it was the final countdown before the show. The interviews were done in groups of fives. I delivered mine with passion, expressing my views and making a stance for Gibraltar. On the day of the final, we had our last rehearsals, and then it was straight to hair and make up. All the hard work and preparation was for this moment, and I was ready to put my best foot forward. There were three rounds, national costume, swimwear and evening dress. Then the Top 20 were announced and although I was not selected for this final round, I was still proud of my journey and feel I have become a good ambassador for Gibraltar.”

Tell us about your preparation for the contest.

“As soon as I found out I would be participating in Miss Supranational I knew I had to set myself goals. I really believe this is key in order to get to where you want to be. I stepped up my training regime and kick started my healthy eating plan. I also became a tourist of my own home, as at times you can become complacent of the beauty and history that lies on your own doorstep. I must admit I have spent hours researching into Miss Supranational as well as other pageant blogs. Having a full time job makes it hard to juggle life as a beauty queen as well as that of a successful independent woman. Although I felt ready, whilst speaking to the other contestants, I Iearnt that many go through months of intense preparation. They eat, sleep and breathe pageants, with some even living in a home with personal stylists, chefs and pageant coaches.”

Which has been your absolute favourite moment at the Miss Supranational?

“It’s very hard to pinpoint a favourite moment as I thoroughly enjoyed it all. However my highlight must be the night of the show. I was psyched up and ready to show the world what I had worked for. It was very emotional knowing that I was not only representing myself, but the whole of Gibraltar and I was extremely proud to do so.”

Would you encourage others to enter pageants?

“Absolutely! You gain so much from these experiences. I’ll be completely honest; it isn’t a walk in the park. You will be pushed and tested and it can be very tough. However what you come away with you wouldn’t be able to gain elsewhere.”

Who are your favourite beauty queens?

Can you tell us about some of the highlights of the year for you so far?

“Aside from representing Gibraltar at Miss Supranational I have had the privilege of attending many events. I thoroughly enjoyed opening the Gibraltar Fair alongside the Hon. Steven Linares. I have also attended several charity events, though taking part in MND’s 7-Day Med Step Challenge must be my favourite.”

What advice do you have for future contestants vying for the title of Miss Gibraltar?

“I feel it is important to be yourself and warm up to the other contestants. At times contestants may become too worked up about the competition. I for one don’t see it as a competition against others, but more of a personal challenge, in order to present myself in the best possible way.”

Have you entered in any other beauty pageants? Do you hold any other previous titles/awards?

“I first entered Miss Glamour in 2008 alongside Shyanne Azzopardi, where I won the title of Miss Personality and 2nd Princess. At university I also entered Student Model Search where from over 500 entrants I was selected as one of the final 10 women.”

Describe your fashion scene and style.

“Working as a PE teacher and because of my pastimes I do tend to live in tracksuits most of the time, although I must admit I coordinate them nicely. Aside from that, I don’t think I have a unique sense of style. To be honest I just have a browse through the shops and buy what I like.”

Do you have any nicknames?

“Someone I have followed closely and admire is Miss World 2013, Megan Young. I think she is extremely beautiful, intelligent and very eloquent. I greatly respect the Miss World Organisation and all the work that they do through Beauty with a Purpose. I think it’s very important to take every opportunity that arises with the title for the greater good, and this is exactly what we have seen Megan do.”

“The netball girls I coach call me Hilary after Hilary Duff, though I don’t quite see the resemblance. I’d rather not mention another of my nicknames, though I know what Bianca (B Mag’s Editor) is thinking. Seeing as she can include it anyway… she does call me ‘Hobo’ as I once wore a pair of tartan shorts to a Miss Glamour event. I then confessed that my brother would call me ‘Hobo’ because of it, which she found to be hilarious.”

What would you say to some people who think that beauty pageants are outdated?

Tell us about some of the important lessons and principles you learned from your family?

“Pageants have been around many years and there have been a great deal of changes. Yes, pageants do consider a woman’s physical beauty, but they also take other factors into account. They look for women with confidence, intelligence and drive who will inspire others. These women are judged on their ability to become role models for their community and ambassadors for their countries. More so pageants have recently been working closely with charities. They are standing up and creating awareness for causes they believe in as well as raising funds, which are truly making a difference. Personally I do believe there is a place for pageantry in today’s day and age.”

“My mother has always placed great importance in having the whole family round the table for dinner. We can all become very busy caught up in our own lives and this gives us the opportunity to listen to each other. It’s very important to appreciate and be thankful for the people you have around you, as you never know what tomorrow has in store for us.”

Is cosmetic surgery an unfair advantage in pageant competition? Why or why not?

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

“I believe that every woman should be comfortable in her own skin when putting themselves up for such a competition. I think pageantry should embrace the differences in body types, however it is becoming increasingly common to have surgery to enhance appearances. If a woman feels that surgery will give her more confidence, then I respect their decision.”

Who is your role model and why?

“A person I look up to is my mother. I think she is a remarkable woman. I always think she is in the wrong profession as she is a great agony aunt, always giving the best advice.”

“I think we are not often content with what we have, always seeking more. At this stage in my life I can honestly say I am happy. I feel very fortunate. I am in good health, as are those around me, which is one of the most important factors. I am passionate about my job and engaged to the love of my life.”

What is your greatest fear?

“Losing a loved one. This is something I can’t bare to think about.” BMAG 9

Which talent would you most like to have?

“I’d love to have the ability to sing well and love listening to music, especially artists like Beyonce. Unfortunately singing is not my forte; just ask my family who often have to put up with my singing in the shower.”

What do you consider is your greatest achievement?

“I never thought going to university would be something I would ever do. Nevertheless I took the step and applied to keep my options open and decided to give it a go. I am extremely proud to say I completed a Bachelor of Education in Secondary Physical Education.”

Where would you like to live?

“I wouldn’t want to live anywhere other than here. I think we are extremely fortunate, particularly when considering the other countries that are suffering, be it from wars, recessions or even natural disasters.”

What is your most treasured possession?

“My memories. It’s something I can always carry with me.”

What do you most value in your friends?

“The fact that you can always count on them and to be there sharing your best moments in life as well as being a shoulder to cry on when times are tough.”

If you could travel back in time when and where would you travel?

What is your personal quote or motto that you live by?

“Be the best possible version of yourself.”

If you could go back and start your life over again, what one thing would you do differently?

“I don’t think I would do anything differently. I have no major regrets. I believe there are many lessons learnt whilst growing up and these contribute to becoming the person that you are today.”

What’s inside your bag right now?

“I’d go back to the 1920’s and go to one of the spectacular parties The Great Gatsby used to throw.”

“Nothing out of the ordinary, although a must have during this season are hand moisturiser and lip balm.”

What is the most precious gift you have given to someone?

What are your plans for the immediate future?

“I think teaching someone is the best gift you can give. It’s something that cannot be taken away from them.”

“I don’t have anything planned as of yet, though I would love to get involved in a community project. Aside from that, I’ve got a wedding to plan and looking forward to decorating my new flat, which will be ready in 2016.”

Finally, any beauty secrets that you would like to share with the readers of B Mag?

“I do swear by products from Soap & Glory to keep my skin looking and feeling good. Other than that, as Annie once said ‘you are never fully dressed without your smile’.”

Stephanie Rad London girl and Prada model Stephanie Rad is a regular face both on the catwalk and at fashion week parties so what’s the secret to her look? Urban cool with an edgy finish. She’s a city girl who doesn’t like things too fussy. And we like the sound of that.

Elena Perminova

Elena Perminova is the partner of Russian billionaire and media magnate Alexander Lebedev but she’s not what you’d imagine an oligarch’s WAG to look like. The statuesque Siberian blonde loves a bit of Mary Katrantzou and is often seen braving the British weather in a trench coat. She’s unexpected with her fashion choices and isn’t afraid to experiment with a statement print.

Kaia Gerber

If you notice something strangely familiar about Kaia Gerber’s thick mane of hair and chestnut eyes, it’s because her mum is Cindy Crawford. Just like the supermodel, Kaia can make a pair of jeans look the height of fashion and she’s a big fan of oversized sunnies. When something more formal is required, she’s not a fussy-fussy girl and prefers simple shapes in black. BMAG 16

Lily James

2015 is set to be a big year for Lily James. Her role as Cinderella in Disney’s new film is set to catapult her into the big time. We have high hopes that her fashion won’t let her down from what we’ve seen; Lily has a rebellious streak not unlike her Downton character Lady Rose. The actress doesn’t take the easy route when it comes to what to wear, preferring a modern, daring twist on classic shapes.

Anna Ewers

Dubbed the new Claudia Schiffer, this German model has become a bit of a darling, especially among Italian designers. While we have no doubt that labels are falling over themselves to lend her clothes, Anna prefers to go casual with sweatshirts, tees and jeans making up the bulk of her look. Take note: she is partial to the odd bit of plaid.

Amal Clooney

Is Amal Clooney about to make power dressing cool again? We think so. George’s new wife had us digging out our suits and shift dresses this summer and we haven’t even started on her offduty style: the barrister gave Grace Kelly a run for her money when it came to Rivera dressing with her floating maxis and epic sun hats. We can’t wait to see what she has planned for her 2015 wardrobe.

Jean Campbell Aristo-turned-model Jean Campbell has fashion in her DNA (her mother was a fashion editor of Vogue), and is already being dubbed the new Cara. Jean’s already bagged a Burberry campaign but her own, personal style is more ethereal: think floating shapes rather than drainpipe jeans.

Charlotte Moss

Despite being signed by Storm, Kate Moss’ little sis Lottie is still something of an unknown quantity. It’s thought she’s planning to start modelling full time after finishing her GCSEs, so 2015 could be her year. From what we’ve seen, Lottie’s style seems a little primmer than Kate’s: more lace and less of the skinny jeans.

Emily Ratajkowski Emily Ratajkowski might have shown more skin than style in Gone Girl and Robin Thicke’s Blurred Lines but the actress has a body confidence that’s reflected in her clothes. She loves anything bright red or a little black dress for evening but the rest of the time it’s jeans or cropped denim shorts.

Chiara Ferragni

Chiara Ferragni is who those in the fashion know follow for style inspiration. The Italian blogger and Instagram maestro (she has over three million followers) has made her look her business, collaborating with a number of top designers and working with Guess as a model and spokesperson. Her favourite designers are Alexander McQueen and Dolce & Gabbana but her unique style isn’t easy to pin down. Chiara says she just dresses the way she feels in the morning so some days she’s a rocker girl and others a nerd. Whether it’s leather or vintage specs, there’s no one better at putting together an ensemble.

Hailey Baldwin

Another year, another Baldwin. Stephen’s daughter Hailey is only seventeen but she’s already following best pal Kendall Jenner into the modelling biz and impressing photographers and editors alike with her inner poise and striking bone structure. Hailey’s mother is a Brazilian graphic designer and her look is more hip than Hollywood, with a wardrobe consisting of ripped jeans, studded leather jackets and ankle boots.

Gigi Hadid

Fans of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills will recognise Gigi, who’s appeared alongside her mum on the show. But the 19-yearold is far more than a reality TV star; Gigi boasts 1 million Instagram followers, is BFF with the Jenners and has walked for the likes of Tom Ford and Chanel. It’s not easy to define this model’s signature look, as she doesn’t really stick to one trend. Monochrome and jumpsuits seem particular favourites, as does anything seriously smart.

FKA Twigs

FKA Twigs has already won the heart of Robert Pattinson and she’s set to win the heart of the fashion elite too. With a sense of style that’s uniquely her own, the singer, whose mother was a clothing designer, has a fondness for bias cuts, bright hues and crop tops. This is a look that is seriously difficult to imitate, especially as Twigs prefers to head to vintage shops, rather than the high street or designers.

Snake print is one of those patterns that should always be used in moderation, as overkill is far too easy. This season it appears to be replacing leopard as the must-have animal print, so we’re here to help you out on how to master it. Rule 1:

Most definitely do not match your outfit to your accessories. The choice is plain and simple, dress or accessories, but never both.

Rule 2:

More often than not, the larger the print the harder it is to wear. To be on the safe side, if the print is large – make sure that it is abstract and/ or monochrome.

Victoria’s Secret angel Alessandra Ambrosio recently revealed that she owes her enviable hair to a daring ancient Brazilian technique. Candle cutting, or Velaterapia as it is also known, is the use of an open flame to sear split ends, revitalising your hair and leaving it healthier. The technique is popular with models such as Isabeli Fontana who have long hair, as it allows you to maintain your hair’s length while keeping it healthy at the same time. Alessandra was working on getting her locks in top condition as she prepared to walk the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in London in December. The show was extra special for the Brazilian beauty, who had been chosen to wear one of the dazzling Fantasy Bras, alongside fellow angel Adriana Lima. “Words can’t describe how excited I was when I received a call from Victoria’s Secret to let me know that I would be wearing it,” Alessandra told PEOPLE Magazine, having worn the Fantasy Bra before in 2012. The striking model had also been sharing photos on Instagram as she trained ahead of the runway extravaganza. Candle cutting is a traditional hair cutting technique in South America, but it seems set to take the UK by storm with the news that the daring styling has been Richard Ward Hair & Metrospa have introduced the Candle Clinic for this winter. At the special clinic, candle cutting expert Nano Lopes, who has undergone specialist training, will be offering the service, currently the only salon in London to offer candle cutting. DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME – this is an in-salon service only, please seek professional advice before you try candle cutting.

If you have oily or combination skin, it can be difficult to find a foundation that does the job. Too much liquid in the formula and it slips by lunchtime, while powder formulations can clump. Choose a foundation specifically developed to suit oily skin, and you’ll notice the benefits instantly - even, longwearing coverage which allows your skin to breathe, while minimising pores and blemishes.

YSL Fusion Foundation

This caused a bit of a frenzy when it launched, and the product really does justify the hype. Oily skin often means several reapplications of foundation throughout the day as sebum causes it to slip, but not so with clever Fusion Foundation. You’ll find the formula strangely thin as you apply it, then sets in place much like any other, but it’s only 8 or 9 hours down the line where the magic happens. In that, nothing happens - it stays put, in all its mattifying, tone evening, pore-concealing glory - zero reapplication required.

Rimmel Lasting Finish Foundation

Normally there’s a bit of a trade-off in foundations for oily skin - you can have a mattifying, long-lasting base, but in return you must have heavy coverage, whether you want it or not. But, if you’re lucky enough to have a reasonably even skin tone, Rimmel Lasting Finish will lightly cover redness and blemishes without looking at all mask-like, yet it also lasts surprisingly well, absorbing oil and covering pores for the best part of a day.

( Editor’s Choice ) Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup

Longwearing coverage that never transfers - I love Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup. It gives full, semi-matte coverage that lasts all day - and you can even blot for shine without it budging. The oil-free formula also contains antioxidants and sunscreen - it really is the full package!

The 25-hour claim might be pushing it a bit, but for such a bargain price, you won’t find a heat and transfer-proof base better than this.

Bareminerals Matte SPF15 Foundation

Revlon ColorStay Makeup for Oily/ Combination Skin

Innovators in long-wear makeup, Revlon have done it again with their new ColorStay Makeup with SoftFlex for Oily/Combination Skin. The formula is perfect for oily skin and US patented technology means it’s guaranteed not to rub off!

E.L.F. Flawless Finish Foundation

If you need heavier coverage some days, Eyes Lips Face Flawless Finish Foundation is a great solution. Blend fully for a sheer effect, or leave in a thicker layer to even out skin tone and texture. We love the long-lasting, semi-matte finish too.

No 7 Beautifully Matte Foundation

Try Boots No 7 Beautifully Matte Foundation and your makeup bag won’t be complete without it. It’s great value, promises 12 hours shine-free and the formula balances oil production to keep your skin in top condition. Before you buy, use No 7’s new Match Made service to find your perfect shade. The clever skin scanner will find you the right foundation - and the No 7 range is big enough to offer an incredibly close match. BMAG 26

Powder is an oily-skinned woman’s greatest ally, so it makes perfect sense that a powder foundation would help you fight the war against grease too.

Bobbi Brown Oil-Free Even Finish Compact Foundation

Great for touch-ups on the go, Bobbi Brown Oil-Free Finish Compact Foundation comes in a neat compact with a sponge for precision application. The long-lasting formula suits oily skin, and you can choose from 10 natural-looking shades.

Benefit Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow

Pamper your skin with Benefit Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow Foundation - I love this hydrating, SPF 25 oil-free formula. It’s natural and light diffusing, perfect for a subtle, lighter coverage.

This one by Bareminerals has a lovely texture that feels almost creamy going on, but really helps keep oil at bay and, as it’s mineralbased, won’t clog your pores so is perfect if you suffer from breakouts or adult acne. REVLON Introduces Global Brand Re-launch and Declares “LOVE IS ON” A New Mission of Inspiring Love Around the World Revlon, the iconic cosmetics company, is proud to unveil REVLON LOVE IS ON, the relaunch of the brand and its first global tag line in over a decade. More than a marketing campaign, the Revlon brand is dedicating itself to inspiring love and connecting with people around the world on an emotional level. This brand cause will be seeded through all channels and across all markets. “The idea for LOVE IS ON grew from our quest to find a universally inspiring emotion. Love is by far the most powerful and most positive. It is very important for us to evoke positivity with our new brand cause,” says Revlon President and Chief Executive Officer, Lorenzo Delpani. “Through the course of our journey to LOVE IS ON, perhaps serendipitously,

we found love in Revlon. Truly, L-O-V-E is at the heart of the word REVLON. And O-N is at the end of REVLON. When you are ‘on’ you are open to all the emotions of love from attraction and adoration to seduction and passion.”

LOVE IS ON is incorporated

into every facet of the marketing strategy across all global markets. The re-launch comes to life through a brand manifesto television and digital ad set to a new recording of the classic song, “Addicted to Love.” The manifesto is an inspirational love story showing the evolution of love from flirtation to infatuation to passion. In line with the new positioning, TV, Print and digital advertising will feature brand ambassadors Halle Berry, Emma Stone and Olivia Wilde.

In addition, Revlon introduced the Global Love Beacon, an interactive billboard in New York City’s Times Square that will allow people to share love from around the world, to the world, 24-7. Located above the Broadway Pedestrian Plaza at 1500 Broadway at the corner of 43rd Street, the Global Love Beacon features a LOVE IS ON Live camera, that captures and streams user generated “love moments” onsite. People from around the world are invited to join the conversation for a chance to have their photo or message featured on the Global Love Beacon billboard by showing their love via social media using the hashtag #LOVEISON. “The new mission of our brand is to inspire love. From the moment a woman puts on Revlon makeup, we want love to captivate her imagination; to take her on a journey into the world of love, where she will be enchanted by its countless dimensions,” says Mr. Delpani. Follow your heart. #LOVEISON For more information about the Revlon LOVE IS ON campaign, visit: www.revlon.com/loveison, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram @Revlon. BMAG 27

Tell us a bit about yourself

“Until being elected to Parliament in December 2011, I was completely new to front line politics. However, having said that, I always knew at the back of my mind that this would probably be my destiny. I have grown up in Gibraltar. While at times we may find it claustrophobic, there is a lot to be said for growing up in a close community and the friendliness and warmth that you just don’t get in other places. I am proud to say that my best friends since we were together in school, nursery even, are still my best friends today, how many people can say that! It’s great to be able to have grown up together and always know that we are there for each other. I studied at Cardiff University and ended up living there for almost 10 years because I really loved the place. After my law degree and qualifying as a barrister I undertook a Masters in maritime law. After that, and because I still enjoyed living there so much, I was really fortunate to get a job at the Commission for Racial Equality. That was really the platform for my interest in equality and what it really means. I found the 2 years that I worked there extremely interesting and it provided me with experience as a lawyer that would not have been available to me had I come straight back to Gibraltar to practise. In 2004 I thought that it was the right time to return to Gibraltar and almost immediately I joined the law firm Attias & Levy where I worked until I entered Parliament. I enjoyed being at that firm and the exposure to the different types of work I was fortunate to have. Being a lawyer in Gibraltar certainly provided a good grounding for what I am doing now. In fact, it was because of my professional dealings with social services and the structure within which I saw the professionals working in that sparked my interest in taking the step to see whether I could help in the bigger picture by being part of the next government. I would describe myself as a person with a strong sense of social justice and always wanting to help those who need it. Clearly that is reflected by the ministerial portfolios that I have been allocated.”

B Mag caught up with Minister Tourism, Equality, Social Services and Housing, Samantha Sacramento, who has made significant strides in benefiting the elderly and disabled community of Gibraltar. She sat down to talk to us about what her new ministerial portfolio entails, what it was for her to enter the world of politics, what it’s like to be a woman in Government, including her experience as acting Chief Minister whilst Fabian Picardo and Joseph Garcia addressed the UN Delegation of 24 in New York. As a woman in Government she explains that this challenge sends a strong message to other women who wish to get involved in politics locally. She noted that if the comments on social media are anything to go by, ‘it certainly raises awareness of doors that can be opened for women.’ She says that it doesn’t matter whether a person is a man or a woman, but this appointment certainly does get women thinking about aspirations. Speaking on whether she thought Gibraltar might see a permanent female Chief Minister within the next 20 years, Samantha stated that it is definitely a possibility. She added, ‘what we want to make sure is that the doors to any women who want to consider this as a possibility are not closed.’ Women in politics… read our exclusive interview with Samantha Sacramento

What was it like to enter the world of politics?

“I have always been very interested in politics. I have been raised in a very political family. My granddad was a strong socialist and union activist he also did a lot of charity work and is remembered by many for a lifetime of dedication to others. He was a very good friend of Joe Bossano and always very affectionately referred to him as ‘su niño’ and my granddad has been very active within the GSLP from the very beginning. My parents too are both very political and my dad in particular has always been part of the union, in fact, now that he is retired he is assisting Unite with various projects. It is no wonder that I have grown up with socialist values and literally in the GSLP family, I suppose that that makes me a third generation member of the party. I was very close to my grandfather. I was the only girl in a family of many boys and everyone knew that I was his favourite. He did not miss either of my graduations in Cardiff or my Call to the Bar at Middle Temple in London or in Chambers in Gibraltar. We were particularly close in the few years before he passed away in 2007 and now that I look back on all the chats that we had, I realise that subconsciously he was probably preparing me for this job. Perhaps because I have missed him so much is why I have relished being Minister for the Elderly.

However, there is a difference between debates at home or work as to what should or should not be done and how your country ought to be run, to actually being at the fore and being part of the government. Being a member of the Government is not easy to describe. It is the hardest job because of the intensity of the work and the long hours, the pressure and the responsibility, but it is also the best job because this is how you can make a real difference. And ultimately, that is what it is about, it is about making a difference to people’s lives for the better. I remember discussions with our Chief Minister Fabian Picardo after the 2007 elections and he told me categorically that if I was not happy with the outcome of those elections and I wanted to be part of making a difference then I should either stand or stop complaining. At the time I thought to myself “yeah right, me?” and we never spoke of it again. But the seed had been planted and was always there at the back of my mind. In the run up to the 2011 elections the discontent with the previous administration was palpable. Long before the elections were called I could sense with a lot of people that I spoke to that they were not happy with what was happening in Gibraltar and the way that it was being run, particularly with how money was being spent on things that would not directly benefit the average Gibraltarian. I wanted a change in Government, I had always wanted this anyway because my allegiances lay with a socialist party but I was really worried about the way Gibraltar was being run and felt that it was about time there was a change. Even then though, I did not consider standing for election myself. Then, through

my work and people that I was helping, I had some very distasteful experiences with former administration. After an accumulation of events that really worried me about the way that things were being done I thought to myself, this is it. It happened around a time that the elections had been called and I made that call to Fabian that we had discussed in 2007. The rest is history!”

What was it like to be part of the election campaign?

“To be honest, nothing could have prepared me for that! Even though I had been in the background in election campaigns before, being in it yourself as a candidate is totally different. For me, having come into it at a late stage, it was easier because I just got caught up in the whirlwind; the foundation work had already been done. But even though I joined in at a late stage, it felt completely natural and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was exciting and exhausting but I took it in my stride and as I look back on the campaign I feel very nostalgic. The team is very well managed and our party machinery is second to none so I felt that I was part of one big family. There were people in the party who I had not met before but everyone immediately made me feel welcome.”

What did it feel like once you were elected?

“The only way that I can describe those first few months was surreal. Nothing can prepare you for it. I will always remember that special feeling during election night, the anticipation for the results and the overwhelming relief when the results were called. For me the relief was not so much that we had won, but that the others would no longer be in Government. Then there was that overwhelming feeling of love by the people as we left the Mackintosh Hall and walked down Main Street. It was a long day and we had not slept for weeks and by that point had no sleep the night before but the happiness and adrenaline kept us going. We immediately got down to business and we were allocated our portfolios at our first cabinet meeting. I got straight to work getting to familiarise myself with the staff and my departments and it has been 3 years of solid hard work since then. While the beginning was a steep learning curve, things have settled down on that front now I have made some radical changes as some of the departments that I had inherited had been neglected for far too long, social services in particular needed a lot of restructure and support and an injection of resources. Social Workers are not given the recognition in our community that they ought to have, I have now realised how undervalued they are as a profession, but I hope that with the investment and restructures they now have more tools to be able to discharge their roles better and be given the recognition they deserve. It is very satisfying that things that were originally just concepts and ideas have now come to fruition. It has been wonderful to be able to open a specifically designed day centre for the elderly at Waterport Terraces. I visit the centre as often as I can and I love seeing the enjoyment that the elderly users derive from being there. We have also refurbished the John Mackintosh Wing of the Old St Bernard’s Hospital and it is now sheltered accommodation on the ground floor and a nursing home. Residential care was desperately needed in Gibraltar and by opening the John Mackintosh Home we have been able to offer our elderly community safety and quality of life. We have also refurbished existing buildings such as Mount Alvernia and this has made a tremendous difference. To have removed the scaffolding that was there for 12 years has been a complete game changer and you cannot underestimate how much this has improved the enjoyment of both the residents and staff.

Making a difference is not just about new buildings; it is also looking at the way that things are done. Reviewing structures and prioritising how money is spent is also very important. By undertaking a restructure at Social Services for example, the system now runs much better and efficiently and the social workers are better equipped to undertake the job that they have to do.” BMAG 39

What is the best part of your job?

“By far the best part of the job is being able to make a difference. I am fortunate to be in a position where I can take important decisions and see the benefits of these decisions to real people. Of course I don’t take these alone and I have a wonderful and dedicated team of management and staff who help and advise me. It is also very important that I am a minister in a truly collegiate government and I can discuss matters with my other ministerial colleagues all the time. We work together a lot, as do our respective departments and this means that the end result of whatever we are considering is so much better. One of the best things that I think that I have done is embark on changing Gibraltar’s landscape to make it more accessible. As Minister for Equality I want to ensure that everyone in Gibraltar has the same chances as everyone else. If a person has issues of mobility, I want them to enjoy our culture of going to the beach like everybody else, that is why our Government has had a plan and made our beaches accessible in the past two summers. That is just one example of what is being done for people with disabilities in our community.”

What is the worst part?

“Having to be in the public eye all the time, because I forget that nowadays everyone knows who I am! It’s also very nice because an incredible amount of people who I do not know, come up to me and thank me for doing a good job.”

What is it like to be a woman in Government?

“I am the only woman in our government but I expect to be treated the same as everyone else and I am. I have been acting as Chief Minister twice now. It is a matter of fact that I am the first woman to have done this in Gibraltar’s history, but when I act, it is same as when any of my other colleagues do, the job at hand needs to be done in exactly the same way. I do think that there should be more women in parliament so as to be more representative of our demographic. That is not the same as saying that there should be more women for women’s sake because otherwise it means that women will be token women and that is not what it is about. Equality is about establishing a level playing field and everyone having the same opportunity to get there, and encouraging more women to come forward because they will be treated fairly, but once you are there it has to be the best person for the job. I hope that I can be a role model for anyone who wishes to enter politics.”

What does the future hold?

“My portfolio has changed with the recent cabinet reshuffle and I have been allocated two new ministries and I am no longer responsible for elderly residential care or drug rehabilitation. While I am sad to have lost two subjects that were very close to me and which I had thoroughly enjoyed working on, to be honest, I have always wanted to be Minister for Housing because I think that this is a way of helping a lot of people so I am looking forward to that. I am also incredibly excited about my new role as Minister for Tourism as it brings a different dynamic to the type of work that I have been doing so far, but I am very commercially minded so I can’t wait to learn more about the tourism industry. As we start a new year, I am very much looking forward to commencing a new chapter in my political life and the new challenges that those will bring.”

The Watch Guide 2015 £735 £2,390 £550 Certina

The latest version of the DS-2 Chronograph contains an ETA PreciDrive movement, tachymeter bezel and sporty green or yellow dial detailing picked up in the stitching of the leather strap, if you go for that option over the steel bracelet.

£2,200 Ebel

Like last year, it’s the Ebel 100, which first appeared as a centenary piece in 2011. The latest “heritage-inspired” version with “rich hues and textures” is as ordinary as a watch can get, which is somehow quite appealing.

£6,300 Dior

The 38mm Chiffre Rouge CO3 has a mother-of-pearl dial that forms a beautifully clear backdrop for the understated moon-phase display. You’ll find a COSC-certified Zenith Elite 691 manufacture movement, too.

Nomos

One of the first models to get the new mechanism developed at a reported cost of £6.6 million - is the 37mm Metro, which features a power reserve indicator (that hole in the dial) and a crystal display back.

88 Rue du Rhone

The 42mm Automatic has a PVD-coated case and just enough red detailing to make it interesting, but not gaudy.

Steel

£6,350

Pink Gold Platinum

£13,900

£21,700

Jaeger-LeCoultre

From

£10,700

Frédérique Constant

Just 18 platinum-cased Heart Beat Manufacture FC-942s have been made, each costing £28,920. You can have one of the 188 rose gold versions for £10,700.

£830,000 Chanel

The new J12 Flying Tourbillon High Jewellery in white gold will brighten up your evenings. It’s fully iced with baguette-cut diamonds and contains a movement made for Chanel by Renaud et Papi, which develops complicated mechanisms for some of Switzerland’s most revered watch brands. BMAG 48

From

£33,100

A Lange & Söhne

£36,400 Laurent Ferrier

The Grand Lange 1 Moon Phase has a superb finish and an exquisite lunar phase movement. Keep the mechanism running, and the “GLOMP” will track the moon’s waxing and waning for more than 100 years.

At Baselworld, the brand unveiled new dial colours for its signature Galet Micro-Rotor model, which is still the watch of the collection. If you can find one, go for the black version.

£20,800

£38,500

Piaget

Well, it’s not big, but it is clever: the Altiplano 900P is Piaget’s skinniest watch yet, measuring 3.65mm thick thanks to the fact that its case has been made part of the mechanism. It might be thinner than seems physically possible, but it has 145 parts and you still get a power reserve of 48 hours.

Patek Philippe

The 1976 Nautilus sports watch was designed by the late, great Gerald Genta (also responsible for the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak) and was similarly inspired by a ship’s porthole. Its latest variation mixes a chronograph with a second time zone. It’s also still waterproof to 120 metres.

£6,600 Breitling

Breitling has up-sized its classic Navitimer from the decades-old 43mm to 46mm, and created an even larger 48mm case for its new GMT version. We were sceptical, but the big diameter makes for easier reading.

Jaeger-LeCoultre’s 125th anniversary in 1958 coincided with the first “International Geophysical Year”, during which 67 nations got involved in a big push on scientific exploration and experimentation in electromagnetism, seismology, glaciology, radioactivity and solar activity. To mark the two events, JLC created the original Geophysic watch, then one of the toughest and most durable timepieces on the market. Now there’s an updated version, which, despite looking gloriously retro, has been made to the even more rigorous standards of the 21st century.

£5,700 Seiko

The Grand Seiko GMT takes some trumping. It’s beautifully made with an engraved, titanium oscillating weight and a choice of a black dial with a red GMT hand or a white dial with a blue GMT hand. There’s also a 600-piece limited-edition version in countryside-inspired hues.

£49,000 H Moser & Cie

Moser movements are built in-house, in small volumes and to high standards. Typical of this is the Perpetual One, with platinum case and Ardoise dial.

Whether you’re a fan of carbon cases or chronographs, divers or drivers, B Mag breaks down the most important new watches you need to know about this year. From 88 Rue de Rhone to Zenith, we present the Watch Guide 2015...

From

£8,500

Montblanc

Think perpetual calendar watches are as astronomically priced as they are astronomically aligned? Well Montblanc’s latest in its Meisterstück Heritage range can be had for as little as £8,500 in steel. You’ll search for many a moon to find such a bargain elsewhere.

£6,400 Breguet

£106,000

Despite the Classique Tourbillon Extra-Thin Automatic’s retro look, it features modern tech such as a balance wheel and escapement in silicone and a titanium tourbillon carriage. It also packs a 90-hour power reserve from its tiny, 7mm-thick case.

£250 TW Steel

Any model from the Slim Line range of 45mm watches, which are kept svelte through skinny Miyota quartz movements. Ten executions are available, in a choice of leather straps or bracelets.

£25,950 Girard-Perregaux

Chronographs and world-time watches may be ubiquitous, but timepieces mixing both are rare. GP’s Traveller WW.TC is the benchmark, and is even more appealing in a 44mm, pink gold case. We love the “globe” dial, too.

£5,700 Cartier

Until now, however, it has never built a “professional” sports watch. Cue the straightforwardly named Diver, which is as much “go” as “show”, since it meets the ISO 6425 standard for underwater timepieces with guaranteed 300-metre water-resistance, a slick-operating, unidirectional bezel with half-minute adjustment, and a screw-down crown and case back.

£38,500 Ulysse Nardin

The Perpetual Manufacture takes Ulysse Nardin back to a classic look. It’s limited to 250 pieces, each with a rose gold case and in-house, perpetualcalendar movement.

From

£10,000

Glashütte Original The PanoMaticInverse is called “Inverse” because it displays its signature “Swan Neck” adjustment system on the dial side rather than at the back. It’s £10,000 for steel and £20,000 for red gold.

£8,250 IWC

Among its new Aquatimer models is the Chronograph Edition 50 Years Science for Galapagos, which marks half a decade of the archipelago’s Darwin research station. The fly back is limited to a worldwide run of just 500.

£185,800 £2,600 Baume & Mercier

The timepieces in B&M’s Clifton line hark back to the firm’s classic men’s models it developed for the US market during the Fifties. One of its latest is a 43mm chronograph version powered by the legendary Valjoux 7750 movement, which has reliably ticked away for decades behind the dials of some of the world’s most revered sports watches - many of which cost far more than the Clifton.

£285 Wenger

A special edition from the Sea Force collection, which boasts a dial decorated with a projection of the Earth and comes in a waterproof utility case with information about the Arctic Light project.

Van Cleef & Arpels

This year’s work of genius is the Midnight Planétarium Poetic Complication. Time is marked on its 24-hour dial by a shooting star that orbits the outer edge - but what’s really impressive is that the 396-part movement also drives tiny representations of the Earth, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn so that they move accurately in relation to the centrally positioned sun.

£4,690 Omega

Marking 45 years since the Speedmaster was worn by Buzz Aldrin on the moon, Omega’s Apollo 11 Moon Landing 45th Anniversary has just enough red-gold detailing and a Nato strap. Available in a run of just 1,969 (for obvious reasons).

From

£20,000 Hublot

The Hublot Fifa World Cup Brazil watch has a chronograph that records playing time. The 200-run ceramic version is £20,000, while 100 King Gold and carbon models are £32,000.

£6,400 Zenith

Now under the support of Jean-Claude Biver, the new head of watches at Zenith owner LVMH, the genius behind Hublot immediately unveiled an El Primero Chronomaster made in tribute to the Rolling Stones. The 250-piece edition features the band’s celebrated lips and tongue logo on the dial (Mick Jagger, famously, commissioned artist John Pasche to create the design in 1971).

£23,800 Roger Dubuis

We’ll gamble on one of the new additions to the roulette-inspired Monegasque collection, Big Number. As with all Roger Dubuises, the superlative finish means it’s Geneva Seal certified.

Pop & Charcoal

Rich, dark pop yellow and charcoal grey make for a muted and trending spot. It will envelope and comfort you. We love how funky these colours look together and the contrast makes it rather interesting as well.

Carnation & Cream

This bedroom is drop dread gorgeous. Dressed in carnation pink and creamy whites, this vintage inspired room would look great with a bit of sparkle. BMAG 50

Silver & Haze

Have your home sparkling and shining all winter long by sprucing up the nooks and crannies with silver spots and hazy spirits. These two complimentary shades are winter in looks and cosy in style.

Moonstone & Ecru

A traditional pairing that can be detailed for the season; moonstone blue and creamy ecru can be such a beautiful and sophisticated way to dress your home. From the foyer to the formal living room, these colours will round it out in elegance.

Raspberry & Fawn

A rich shade of raspberry paired with a softer brown fawn, makes for a cosy and comfortable bedroom or even dining room. There’s an elegance and sophistication within this colour pair that we’re swooning over.

Amethyst & Aero

Teal & Rust

Another great example of a room that will just envelope and embrace your family, this teal and rusted room is a gorgeous way to celebrate the colder season but also create a space with unsuspecting style. It’s a surprising duo and one that is quite fashion-forward in vision.

Amethyst purple and aero blue come together to create a fresh, bright, modern and “cool” felt room with ease. We love the masculine touches and feminine edge these two tones bring to the table.

Navy & Bubblegum

A warm navy blue paired with a popping, pink bubblegum is surely to jazz up your kitchen or living room with a sophisticated ease. The navy creates a solid, winter-inspired foundation while the few accents of bubblegum make it all personalised and styled.

Moss & Snow

Beautiful in the bedroom, kitchen or even in the dining room, this fresh duo of moss green and snowy whites is gorgeous, don’t you think? This green speaks of the winter season and the snow keeps the space crisp and alive. BMAG 51

Choose the Right Bulbs

1 Decide on the look you’re trying to create before choosing the bulbs for your vanity light fixtures. Halogen bulbs are often appreciated for their crisp white light that renders skin tones most accurately and the smaller, compact varieties give a glamorous sparkling effect.

3

7

2 This is symmetry at its best. The vanity features two mirrors, each with their own LED light fixture. Even though they are placed above the mirror, the fact that there are two windows framing the cabinet means the lighting is even, at least during the day. 3 The Trinity lighted mirrors offers evenly balanced lighting is a subtle and artistic way while also offering the simple look that modern and contemporary bathrooms crave. 4 Hanging a pendant light in the corners of your bathroom to light up your vanity will work in your favour, projecting beautiful shadows on the adjacent walls but not on your face when looking in the mirror. 5 Attach sconces to the bathroom mirror if there’s no space on the wall. You’ll also get to add depth to the room and create optical illusions.

6 Get a pair of industrial-style sconces for the bathroom vanity if you’re not trying to achieve a particularly artistic décor. Their simple and straightforward look is suitable for the room. 7 Sconces and pendant lights aren’t your only options. You can also light up the ceiling. These sparkling little lights look glamorous and stylish and they’re just what a minimalist bathroom needs. 8 Light up your bathroom mirror from behind if you prefer a soft, warm glow. This would serve as ambient lighting and will also help define the mood in the room. 9 Two adjacent mirrors can shade three sconces. They can be evenly distributed around the mirrors so it would be a balanced and symmetrical look. BMAG 52

Eliminate the Unflattering Shadows

You know those ugly shadows you get under your chin, cheeks and eyes when you look in the bathroom mirror? They’re not at all flattering and they appear because you’ve chosen to illuminate your bathroom vanity the wrong way. The lighting fixtures should always be mounted on either side of the vanity or on the mirror surface and never above the mirror.

Accent Lighting Needs to be Subtle

Accent lighting is called like that for a reason. It needs to be subtle and has to be positioned correctly in order for you to make the most of it. For example, in the case of the vanity, you can light up the space underneath if it’s wall-mounted or raised off the floor.

Edison Bulbs

Here’s how you can make your own vanity light fixture, if you’re a fan of DIY projects. It’s pretty simple actually. Find a chrome vanity light kind of like this one and, if you want, repaint it to give it this chic antique look. Then go get a pack of Edison bulbs. They’re a bit pricey but they’ll look good in this context. Then hang your light fixture. Here it’s shown above the mirror but you can just as well make two and place them vertically.

Light Up the Area Evenly When placing sconces or pendant lights on either side of the vanity mirror for example, make sure they’re evenly spaced so they don’t cast unwanted shadows. This is something to take into consideration even when employing more unusual methods, such as framing the mirror with LED strips.

Mason Jar Vanity Lighting

And here’s how you can make your own Mason jar vanity light. You’ll need two mason jars, bronze spray paint, spray primer and, of course, the light fixture. Apply a coat of primer and then two coats of paint. Using the flange from the fixture, trace a circle on the middle of the lid. Nail holes close together around the circle, pop out the portion at the middle and assemble the fixture. Do the same thing for the second jar.

Horoscopes CAPRICORN

22DEC - 19JAN

This month is a strong one to start the year off just right for Capricorns! January is excellent for personal popularity and influence, as well as getting personal initiatives off the ground. It’s also strong for resolving sticky problems from the past. Love is especially private for you. Some work matters could be stuck or you may need to backtrack over projects you previously thought were complete. The most productive and rewarding week of January is the third week, when you are the recipient of positive feedback and even accolades.

ARIES

21MAR - 19APR

January is a beautiful month for you in terms of work and work projects as well as reputation and recognition, dear Aries. Although your energy remains on the low side, and mental pursuits as well as education require adjustments and revision, tangible progress can be made in your career. Love is exotic and adventurous this month - the mere commonplace doesn’t seem to suffice for you just now. Breaking the routine with a partner is in order. Singles are more likely to meet a partner through business contacts or while travelling.

CANCER

21JUN - 22JUL

January is especially strong for you on a social and personal level. Close partnerships are a focal point for much of your attention, and a sense of stability comes from productive conversation and communications with others. This year, a romance is likely to blossom into a partnership, and the stage is most likely beginning to be set this month. For attached Crabs, relationships are moving to a completely new level in 2015, and changes are brewing already. Some revisions are required with your career, and attention to public relations is a major focus on the job.

LIBRA

23SEP - 220CT

Family and domestic matters are especially strong this month, dear Libra. A total transformation of your personal life is in the works in 2015, and the stage is being set in January. Pleasant communications, including emails, letters, and other contacts, figure this month and help you to make new connections. Some of these new contacts are actually re-connections with people from your past. Some revisions in a close partnership continue to figure in January. Overall, however, January is quite excellent for social contact and support.

AQUARIUS

JANUARY 2015

20JAN - 18FEB

January is an excellent month for feeling supported and reinforced by friends, as well as for honing your intuition, dream work, resolving past problems, and tying up loose ends. Although you enjoy social activities, your intimate world comes into strong focus this month. You are likely to be dealing with past matters with a current romantic interest, or a past lover may find you! Some feelings of creative dryness are possible, but business income receives a strong boost, and life matters are stable and secure overall.

TAURUS

20APR - 20MAY

The New Year begins for you, dear Taurus, with creative enterprise and expression especially strong. Investments in foreign enterprises could turn a profit, although personal income matters require some review and revision. Your personal relationships can be especially intimate and intense. Watch for possessiveness! This month is all about breaking the ordinary routine. Opportunities to travel arise now, and adventure tends to seek you out. Some restlessness is likely, mainly because of a deep feeling of wanderlust.

LEO

23JUL - 23AUG

January is normally a month of work, reorganisation, and attention to health regimes for you, dear Leo. This year is no exception, but it s an especially pleasant and busy phase this time around. A sense of stability in your work, diet, and other daily routines gives you confidence that you are on top of the little things in your life. Group activities and friendships can experience some ups and downs. A friend could be behaving in a confusing manner. Romance is especially rewarding, strong, and stable. Turning a hobby into a profit is also possible this month.

SCORPIO

23OCT - 21NOV

Communications, learning, and social contact are areas of your life that are undergoing a major transformation in 2015 for you, dear Scorpio. In January, a strong feeling of stability and support from acquaintances, the forming of solid, long-term social connections, and opportunities to hone your mental skills figure prominently. Some confusion or stalling is likely, however, in intimate relationships. Although your personal finances enjoy a solid month, those of a partner could be challenged for the time being.

PISCES

19FEB - 20MAR

GEMINI

21MAY - 20JUN

VIRGO

24AUG - 22SEP

Partnerships this month are friendly and stable for you, dear Pisces. Single Fish might meet a partner through a friend or group activity. Family and domestic affairs are in need of some revision and could be distracting, and re-working your financial budget is in order. However, this first month of 2015 is excellent for career, business income, reputation, public relations, and friendships, kicking off a year in which networking and branching out figures strongly and brings you much happiness!

Partnerships are especially strong in January for you, dear Gemini. Stability in your domestic relationships and close personal relationships, as well as a sense of resolve and security with finances, figures sets you off on the right foot in the New Year. You are likely to find, however, that some of your personal initiatives reach snags and physical energy is on the low side. Friendships could also feel a bit forced or strained. These are temporary kinks in the flow of your life, and shouldn’t prevent you from enjoying a strong month in which peace in close relationships reigns.

January begins a beautiful trend that is with you in 2015 in terms of romance, creative pursuits, children, and recreation. Virgos are learning to let their hair down and have some serious fun this year! Getting your life completely on track continues to be a strong theme, but you are able to find a healthy balance between work and play. Reward and recognition is forthcoming this month, and family affairs are especially pleasant. Revision of some of your long-term goals and work projects is required, however. Ironing out the kinks now helps you push forward with more confidence in February.

SAGITTARIUS

22NOV - 21DEC

A yearlong trend towards greater abundance of personal income and possessions starts this month, dear Sagittarius. Concentrating on how to improve your cash flow works well now, as you come up with solid strategies to do just that. January is excellent for career, money, and professional influence. Some backtracking in a close partnership or romance is likely to distract you somewhat, however. Friends find you this month, and job offers come to you. You are expressing more warmth and conviviality on a professional level, and this has nice pay-offs.
