Your most flattering shades: Dark neon purple or hot pink If you’re a blonde with more pale pinkish or yellow undertones and have light eyes, you’ll look stunning in bright blues, bold greens and deep neon purples. 1. YOUR HAIR’S NATURAL OILS One of the biggest reasons why you shouldn’t wash your hair every day is because of the natural oils on your hair and scalp. While many try so hard to get rid of these oils, the truth is, they are wonderful for your hair. Your natural oils will make your hair healthier and shinier than most products. The thicker your hair is, the more time it takes for these oils to work their way down the strands of your hair, meaning you can go longer between washes. Even those with thin hair should be able to go at least every other day without lathering up!
2. HAIR STYLING Hair tends to style better the day you don’t wash your hair. Curls stay in place better, it’s easier to brush your hair back into a ponytail or bun, and flyaways are more easily tamed. This is why many stylists recommend coming into the salon with “dirty” hair before getting an up-do or any type of special service. The less often you can wash your locks, the better your colour will look. Shampoos can strip the colour from your hair or simply cause it to fade. Since colouring your hair isn’t exactly cheap, it’s best to keep up with your investment by skipping shampoo as often as you can.
Not only will your hair style better, your hair will also look better. Everything seems to stay in place better on day two. You won’t be as bothered with frizz or dry looking tresses after skipping the shampoo. If your hair does look a little greasy at the roots, simply spray on some dry shampoo or baby powder. I know it may sound crazy, but you’ll be amazed how much better your hair looks the day after you skip a wash.
5. LESS PRODUCT BUILD UP Many people believe they have to wash their hair on a daily basis due to oil build up. However, the opposite just might be true. Often, the greasy look we get in our hair isn’t because of our own natural oils, but because of product build up from washing and styling. Although your hair may go through an adjustment period when you first start skipping the washes, you’ll begin to notice your hair looking less oily between shampoos.
6. LESS HEAT ON YOUR TRESSES By now, it’s no secret that heat is bad for your hair. Using hair dryers and styling products can cause your hair to break and leave your locks looking lifeless. If you skip the washes that also means you can skip blow-drying your hair. Normally when day two rolls around, your hair will already be mostly fixed from the day before so you won’t have to use your flat iron, curling iron, or wave iron nearly as much. Using less heat not only saves you time, it also saves the life of your hair.
7. MORE MONEY IN THE BANK When you are using less shampoo, conditioner, styling products, and hair appliances, you are doing your wallet a favour. You may be able to go longer between hair appointments as well, if your hair is healthier and your colour isn’t fading as quickly. CONSISTENT CARE
Your heredity and skin type could be part of the reason for enlarged pores. Individuals with dry skin tend to have smaller pores, while people with oily skin often have larger pores. Regular cleansing and appropriate moisturising (even oily skin needs moisture) will reduce the appearance of large pores. A facial cleanser that contains glycolic acid and salicylic acid will help unclog the pores. Choose one that’s gentle enough for daily use and wash your face with it morning and night. Adding a toner often helps, too. Toners and astringents are great for clearing away any residue the cleanser might leave behind. Being scrupulous about keeping your face clean is the number one way to reduce the look of large pores since it keeps them unclogged and free of excess oils. In addition, steaming the face to open pores prior to cleansing can accelerate the results of your skin care regime and help you fight the appearance of enlarged pores.
HANDS OFF
Don’t ever squeeze pores! Squeezing can cause trauma to the surrounding tissue. You will end up with the same enlarged pores and an ugly red mark.
REFINE
There are pore-refining creams that can speed up cell regeneration. These topical treatments stimulate cell turnover to bring new layers of skin to the surface faster. They also help keep the pores clean. As the new cells form, the skin takes on a smoother look and over time the pores appear to be noticeably reduced.
MAKEUP
If you wear makeup on a regular basis, choose a lightweight oil-free or oil-control formula. You may notice that your foundation makeup sinks into your pores, causing them to look larger. One easy solution is to apply a face primer before adding your foundation. The primer forms a barrier that gives you a smooth surface and prevents the makeup from migrating into pores and wrinkles.

7 Colours of the Rainbow & what they Symbolise When I was little I would get so excited when the sun would come out while it was still raining, because I knew there was a very good chance that a rainbow would come out and I would get to see all the colours of the rainbow. Because I loved rainbows so much, I learned that they have religious and mythological significance, which fascinates me. Interestingly, even the colours of the rainbow symbolise different things, including emotions.
1. RED
2. ORANGE
Red is one of the most energising colours of the rainbow. Red can excite people and motivate them to take action. It can also bring people confidence because it is associated with strong will. While red is associated with energy and confidence, red is most often associated with passion and love. This is why you see so much red on Valentine’s Day. Although red is the colour of passion and love, this is not why Chinese brides have traditionally worn red. In China red is considered a good luck colour and it is thought that it will bring good luck to a marriage. Knowing what a positive colour red is, you may be tempted to add more red in your life. However, if you do want to add more red you should be careful because too much red can cause irritation and provoke anger.
Orange is a very warm and happy colour. It is symbolic of optimism, friendship, adventure, and good communication, and it can bring out enthusiasm, rejuvenation, courage, and vitality. Interestingly, each shade of orange has a different meaning. Peach, for instance, represents communication and good manners, and golden orange symbolises vitality and self-control. Burnt orange has more negative associations, as it is symbolic for pride, tension, and aggression. Dark orange is known to bring out overconfidence and ambition. For the more positive effects of orange, you should stick with the lighter shades of orange.
4. GREEN Green is the colour of spring, and as such it is symbolic of renewal and rebirth. Green is also symbolic of growth, harmony, and hope. Green is great for balancing the heart and emotions, and it can help people rejuvenate and nurture themselves. As positive as green is, it also has undesirable qualities. Envy is by far the most negative characteristic. How many times have you heard the phrase, “green with envy”? BMAG 32
3. YELLOW If you need some inspiration, you should surround yourself with yellow. Yellow inspires original thought, inquisitiveness, and creativity, which should help you find inspiration. In addition to inspiring creativity, yellow is an uplifting, hopeful, cheerful, and fun colour. I always think of yellow as a very joyful colour. As joyful as yellow is, you can have too much of a good thing. Too much yellow can cause people to be critical, judgmental, and too analytical.

6. INDIGO
Blue is one of the most calming and peaceful colours there is, which makes it perfect for a bedroom. Painting your bedroom a calm blue will help you feel serene and relaxed. Aside from being a calming colour, blue is also the colour of devotion, wisdom, loyalty, and trust. In addition to having a calming effect, blue can bring out reliable, caring, predictable, and conservative qualities. However, too much blue can make a person very rigid. So while painting your walls blue may be calming, try not to have everything blue.
Across between blue and purple, indigo has qualities of both these colours. Indigo is a colour that represents intuition, integrity, idealism, and introspection. Indigo also has a very responsible side, as it can bring out practicality, responsibility, and structure. Because indigo does bring out intuition and responsibility, it is a great colour to be around if you are trying to plan for your future. However, like all of the colours, you should not go overboard with indigo. Too much indigo can cause judgment, intolerance, and avoidance of conflict.

Karl James Ullger was born in Gibraltar in 1982. From a very young age he showed an interest in the arts. During his younger years, he won several competitions that served him into good stead to pursue his artistic career. Karl studied BA Hons Graphic Design at Leeds University. Here he experimented using the various mediums and genres, such as photography, product design, marketing, role play, video art, animation and of course, Fine Arts. During his time at Leeds University he also undertook a course on Music and Film Journalism. Despite being offered a PR position at a local Leeds graphic design company he decided to come back to his routes and study Art & Design at a P.G.C.E teaching level. Here he was able to transfer his skills into his now current job as a secondary school teacher. Whilst exhibiting paintings when the occasion arose. In 2005 he returned to Gibraltar to teach at Bayside Comprehensive School where he has had a great influence upon the young artists of Gibraltar. So much so, that under his wing pupils have won prestigious awards in the local art scene. Apart from several pupils winning prizes and being highly commended, he has lead by example by receiving himself two Young Artists of the Year Awards, one of which was awarded by a very prestigious RA member, Mick Moon, who studied at the Chelsea School of Art and the Royal College of Art. Karl has also received in 2009 a very acclaimed 1st prize in the Gibraltar Spring Art Festival, as well as a 2nd prize in the prestigious International Open Art Exhibition. Karl’s artistic style has been described as being of an expressionistic nature but what can be safely said is that his technique has changed and developed throughout the course of the last 5 years.
Tell us about yourself. What are you currently doing?
“Apart from teaching my love for Art at Bayside Secondary School, I consider myself a serious practising local artist.” How did it all start?
“Since learning how to hold a pencil at a young age, I would doodle 24/7 and let my imagination run wild. I think imagination and creativity is a key factor for nurturing that artistic side, especially when you’re young.” Did you go to study? If so, what and where did you go?
“University of Leeds was my home for some time where I studied Graphic Design followed by Art & Design.” What first got you interested in art?
“Even though art has always interested me and been an integral part of my life, it was probably during my time as a pupil in the UK from the ages of 9-15 where my art teacher was a true inspiration. His general philosophy, teaching style and bucket of enthusiasm was probably what fuelled my desire to learn and experiment more within the arts.” How did you decide to become an artist?
“I think it was more of a transition than anything else. From daily sketching and doing the odd commissions to exhibiting and entering competitions. It was the natural way forward.” BMAG 34
First painting/drawing ever produced?
“There are two vivid memories: One of an artwork done using just numbers back when I was 5. And for some reason I specifically remember doing a drawing of a Frog, which I remember being quite proud off.” What inspires you?
“Visiting exhibitions and galleries is always a must for me. I tend to travel a lot and wherever I am I make it a point to visit a gallery even if I have been there before. In life we are always learning and this can only happen by experiencing what is there already. I am fascinated how classical/ traditional artists such as Velazquez or Goya dealt with issues from their time and the same with more contemporary artists. These are aspects I try and bring into my work and have done in my latest series ‘Red, White & True: Gibraltarianism’. The exhibition is about Gibraltar today, past and present in all aspects of the term.” Tell us about your work. What are you currently working on? How is this different from past projects?
“As I mentioned previously my current series is based on my beloved Gibraltar. I thoroughly enjoy painting and drawing the human figure but throughout the last 2 years I have been focusing more on landscapes/ townscape but with an exploration of medium. This project is a bit different to what has been done in Gibraltar before as I have been using a very old technique called ‘Pyrography’ which is a form of wood burning. The ‘spin’ that I have given it is that I have used it with paint, varnish, collage and at times Gold Leaf. I have tried to give my artworks a classical but yet contemporary edge. There are a selection of paintings and installations that highlight certain political or current issues. My aim is merely to create discussion and debate.” What was the best advice given to you as an artist?
Where do you hope to see yourself in ten years?
“When I was 11 I wanted to be an architect and build a house for my grandmother. When I was 21 I wanted to be a graphic designer. Now I am 31 I teach my hobby and paint what I want. When I am 41 I want to own a Jelly Fish Man of war!” What advice do you have for anyone interested in becoming an artist?
“Paint, draw, sculpt whatever inspires you and never let anyone tell you otherwise. You are as good as you want to be.”
What is your most important artist tool? Is there something you can’t live without in your studio?
“My Easel. My Sketchbook. My Mind.”
Is there an element of art you enjoy working with most? Why?
“I consider myself a very versatile artist. I don’t tend to shy away from trying new mediums or techniques. I love going ‘hands-on’, trying out new ideas and seeing where they take me.” What are your guilty pleasures… food wise?
“I will always stay loyal to a good steak although I must admit I do have a love affair with Lindt chocolate’s and panna cotta desserts!” Tell us about some of the important lessons and principles you learned from your family?
“The most important lesson my mother and grandmother always taught me was to speak and treat everyone like you want them to treat you.” What is your idea of perfect happiness?
“Pain becomes bearable, the unknown becomes understood, the violent becomes irrelevant. Happiness in my eyes is health, your mind and
a good family life… Oh and a good sense of humour does help!” What is your greatest fear?
“Losing my mind, eyes and hands.” Which talent would you most like to have?

“Despite having several personal achievements that do raise a smile, I feel my greatest achievement is yet to come and be measured only the day I take my last breath. Although I would like to think that I have inspired past and present pupils of mine to achieve their desires and more.” Which living person do you most admire?
“Easy… If it wasn’t for my mother I wouldn’t be half the person I would be today.” What do you most value in your friends?

“Back to 1920s Paris and share a coffee with the Great Picasso while wearing a suit and a bowler hat!”

“I have absolutely no regrets about anything. All so called ‘mistakes’ in life are learning experiences for future references.”

Many artists struggle to find ways to sell their art. How do you sell your work? How do you market yourself?
“I have to admit I am a bit of a social network mongrel. With art it’s all about keeping current and up to date with the latest. Not only do I have my website (www.ullger.com) and facebook art page (KarlJUllgerArtworks) but you can also find me on Instagram or twitter under @ullger_art. It is actually on twitter where an online competition was done back in March by a UK Manchester based Graphic Design Company ‘One Minute Brief’s’ where over 5,000 designers all over the country submitted suggestions of witty names and designs for my current exhibition. The 2 winners received a sketch from my 2011 ‘Beyond 2 Palettes’ series.” Have you been in competitions?
“Since 2004 I have been entering competitions seriously and receiving prizes such as winning Young Artist of the Year twice, winning the Gibraltar Spring Art Festival, 2nd in the International Open Art Exhibition, being selected to represent Gibraltar in the UK at the Clarendon Art Gallery in Mayfair as well as several Highly Commended prizes.” When are you completely satisfied with your work?
“Never! Even when its ‘finished’ I am always finding ways on how I could change it.”
Who are some of your favourite artists and why?
“Pablo Picasso because of his whole philosophy, confidence and how he carried himself. Diego Velazquez and JMW Turner for their sheer mastery and in the contemporary world artists such as Antony Micallef, Ian Francis and Philippe Cognee fascinate me.”

On the other hand, for us “normal” mums, 2-3 hour training sessions twice a day is a little over the top. Your body has just done something miraculous, and you need to take some time to heal and enjoy your baby. Before you begin any exercise program, talk with your doctor about when it is safe to begin. Many doctors recommend you wait until your six-week check-up. Avoid crash dieting, and keep your caloric intake within 1,500-1,800 per day to avoid fatigue and irritability. At this point in your life, you need all the energy you can get! Most experts agree that to maximise your weight loss potential you must focus on both diet and exercise. Actress Gwyneth Paltrow insists she is, “not dieting, because I am a milk machine,” but she does make sure she eats healthy organic food and drinks plenty of water. Most stars need a more structured diet plan and hire nutritionists to count every carbohydrate and monitor every calorie that passes their pampered mouths. And went back to having a salad once a day and protein.” David Kirsch, supermodel Heidi Klum’s trainer, tells Access Hollywood that the best way to lose the bloat is to cut down on “starchy carbs” like dairy and fruit for two weeks.
FOOD DELIVERY SERVICES:
Celebrity mums like Denise Richards and Uma Thurman don’t trust themselves to eat right, so they hire a food delivery service to tell them what to eat and how much of it to eat. Uma reportedly lost 25 pounds in six weeks using this type of service. These food delivery services will deliver portion-controlled healthy foods right to their doors. It can be expensive, but for many busy celebrity mums it is an easy way to shed the pounds. Besides the high price tag, programs like this can often lead to weight gain once the food service stops and you are back in the “real world” making your own meals.
COMMERCIAL WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAMS:
A good alternative to food delivery services, if you need a more structured diet plan, may be a program like Weight Watchers or Jenny Craig. Weight Watchers helped Jenny McCarthy lose the 80 pounds of baby weight she gained. She was so impressed with them that she is now their spokesperson. The weight loss may be slow in celebrity terms (it took McCarthy one year to lose almost all of her weight) but for many people it is more realistic. Now that you know how the rich and famous diet, let’s talk about how they exercise. It seems celebrity exercise programs run the gamut from extreme (Kate Hudson’s daily three-hour workouts to lose 60 pounds in four months) to non-existent (Elizabeth Hurley who insists, “I don’t do a lot of exercise.”). It seems like the common denominator in most celebrities exercise programs is that they exercise for at least an hour a day, five days a week.

Celebrity mums such as Gwyneth Paltrow and Madonna are fans of yoga to keep their bods in top-notch form. Gwyneth talks about the 40 pounds she gained with her pregnancies and admits that seeing her post-baby body was a little scary. “It’s all lovely when you are pregnant; but when you are not pregnant and you haven’t been for a couple of months and you are still carrying tons of extra weight and everything’s all hanging and sagging, you think, How is this ever going to go back? But it does. If you do a lot of working out.” Madonna keeps her body looking decades younger by following Ashtanga Yoga. This specific type of yoga is more aerobic and energetic in nature than other types of yoga. I’m sure her high-power dance routines also play a part in keeping her body looking fabulous.
RUNNING:
Buff mums Jennifer Garner and Gwen Stefani rely on running to burn calories and tone their lower bodies. In an interview Gwen said that losing the weight she gained when pregnant with nine-month-old Kingston was not easy. “Let’s just talk about how hard it’s been. But it’s almost gone.” Besides jogging regularly and nursing, the singer has said, “I’ve just been eating healthy. I cheat every day at least once.”
HEIDI KLUM:
For walking down the runway in a thong just two months after having her second child, this Victoria’s Secret supermodel is in a class by herself. She credits breastfeeding, which helped melt away a pound a day for the first five weeks, and her trainer David Kirsch for getting her body in runway shape. He recommends a diet consisting of healthy protein and avoiding unhealthy carbohydrates and alcohol. To keep your metabolism high, eat small healthy meals every three hours, and avoid eating after 7pm. David says there is one piece of equipment at the gym that will maximise your calorie-burning potential. “Get on the rowing machine. Get off the treadmill. It’s a bigger bang for your buck.”

Blush Pink & Subtle Coloured Gowns Ever since celebrity brides such as Gwen Stefani, Reece Witherspoon and Anne Hathaway walked down the aisle in pink, the trend to wear coloured wedding dresses has soared. While legendary bridal designer Vera Wang picked up on the fashion and focused its 2014 collection on coral, scarlet and fuchsia hues, budding fashion house Naomi Neoh has also been thinking pink. The London-based designer, who has a studio in Dulwich, has seen her signature blush pink gowns outsell her traditional ivory pieces by almost two to one. More and more brides are looking for that dash of colour - a trend Naomi has pinpointed with her peach, champagne, cafe au lait and dove grey dresses. “It’s all about getting the right dress for you and ivory is not always the most flattering colour on all skin tones,” said Naomi. “Hues of blush pink and apricot can lift the complexion and enhance most skin colours. Blush pink has always been a signature in my designs and popular with brides looking for something a little different.” The Durham graduate’s two collections, Love Letters and Secret Garden, as well as her classic range feature dresses made from indulgent and luxurious fabrics. Naomi uses silk voile, couture weight organza and silk chiffon among other cloths, delicately embellished with French lace, handmade silk corsages and subtle beading. The dresses are structured with lightweight but effective corsetry to create a nipped-in waist and a slim, svelte silhouette. Much like nautical and military, Americana continues to influence and play a prominent role within menswear each and every season. The term Americana is undeniably wide-ranging and its definition differs depending on who you ask. For SS14, designer and high street collections have made clear references to 1940s and 1950s America – from Ivy League-inspired aesthetics and Hawaiian prints to the timeless style of silver screen icons such as Marlon Brando and James Dean. A perfect accompaniment to the warmer spring/summer months, this year’s Americana trend combines a colourful palette and vivid patterns with a slight rebellious streak for those daring enough to embrace the look. On The Runways Two major design houses showcased strong Americana influences in their SS14 previews: Louis Vuitton and Missoni. Kim Jones, Head of Menswear at Louis Vuitton, was inspired by a road trip across America and looked to echo this feel within his spring/ summer line, referencing everything from Ivy Leaguers and frat boys to greasers and trust fund babies. A wide and varied collection, it was clear to see the development from one look to another. Following the end of World War II in 1945, men’s fashion started to move away from traditional monotones hues and began embracing colours/ patterns in a form of rebellion after a period of austerity and rationing. Louis Vuitton looked to visualise this transition by applying check and plaid motifs to classic blazers, suits, shirts and shorts. The label went on to combine bold coloured and checked separates, creating a mish-mash effect that worked extremely well and helped bring this vintage aesthetic bang up to date. Surprisingly, wide collared, peak lapel shirts were prominent throughout the collection. These were offered in bright hues and paisley patterns, while other more subtle prints included an interesting black and midnight blue tie-dye.
Missoni followed suit by featuring multiple short-sleeved peak lapel shirts in vivid Aztecstyle patterns, which were worn with the collars open and matched with suits in wide-legged fits, giving them a distinct 1950s Americana feel. These trousers were worn high on the waist, typical of beatnik/rockabilly styling, and printed tees were often layered beneath the open shirts – a great look for the current transitional months where temperatures can be wildly unpredictable. The Missoni collection also combined cardiganstyle blazers with high-waisted, loose-fitting khaki trousers or chino shorts, championing the Ivy League aesthetic commonly associated with 1950s Middle America.
Elsewhere, Ermenegildo Zegna featured a variety of relaxed cut, high-waisted suits paired with coloured/patterned shirts; these were also layered underneath knitwear with the sleeves rolled up so that the colour/pattern of the shirt was visible at the cuffs. Nicole Farhi was another designer who favoured peak lapel shirts, including short-sleeved versions in textured olive green and blue-grey fabrics. They were worn with the collar open and paired with wide-legged textured trousers and espadrilles for a laid-back Americana feel. Similarly, Canali featured open-collared shirts in plain and patterned styles, which were combined with blazers and non-matching, relaxed-cut trousers.
Outerwear has long been a key component of preppy style, particularly the varsity jacket, and a highlight of the label’s SS14 showcase came in the form of a striking red cropped jacket complete with collegiate patches and a big ‘V’ letterman-style logo. Other cropped blousons and baseball jackets also featured in various colours and fabrics, including navy cotton, light brown leather and pillar box red snakeskin – with shapes and cuts reminiscent of James Dean’s iconic red windbreaker in ‘Rebel Without A Cause’.
With Americana influences so wide and varied for SS14, this is a trend that can be incorporated into any wardrobe. Whether you want to create an edgy rockabilly-inspired aesthetic, inject some life into your wardrobe via a Hawaiian print or simply add a preppy touch to your ensembles with a classic varsity jacket, there is something for every personal style.

If it’s up to festival directors Chris Yeats and Dion Mifsud, Gibraltar will be the scene of a memorable party this June. In conjunction with a local production team, the duo are preparing a summer festival with all the ingredients of a sizzling summer musical feast. Just to prove this lively entrepot on the southern edge of Europe is not about business and trade alone, Gibraltar is gearing up for the party of its life on bank holiday Sunday 15th June, when the doors will open to a day-long music and fun festival focused on the entire community. “We’re aiming to cater to all age groups and make this not just a concert, but a real family event for the whole of Gibraltar and indeed people on the Costa del Sol to enjoy,” says co-organiser Chris Yeats. For this reason the inaugural Gibraltar Love Festival is designed around creating a feel-good summer festival atmosphere full of great musical acts, entertainment and special areas. “The latter create a range of different environments in which to enjoy the day, so you can choose from a normal concert experience, VIP areas and there are also corporate boxes for companies that want to make the most of a unique event within our borders.” The venue is the Bayside Sports Complex (also known as the MUGA), of which the Victoria Stadium forms the main part. “It meets the logistical requirements, is ideally positioned between the town and the border, and offers the variety of spaces that we need to create different areas in.” In addition to the comfortable hospitality facilities of the VIP areas and corporate boxes, these also include a funfair atmosphere with bars, food stalls and family areas with rides and attractions for children. “Locals are encouraged to set up stalls to further this sense of a fair that lasts throughout the day and adds to the overall atmosphere and enjoyment,” says Chris.
Music for all tastes Doors open at 15:30hrs for a concert that runs all the way to 00:30hrs. Filling a whole day like that is quite an undertaking, but the organisers have managed to produce a line-up aimed at keeping people with a wide range of musical tastes and ages entertained throughout. “In addition, this is not the kind of concert where you have to sit still or stand facing the stage all day. There is lots going on, it’s a great place to come out and socialise, and you can pick and choose the acts you want to be closest to.” The performing bands include both local and international artists, with a strong focus on supporting Gibraltar’s burgeoning home grown talent. Chase & Status is a British electronic music duo made up of Saul Milton (Chase) and Will Kennard (Status) that produces music and has collaborated with the likes of Plan B, Cee Lo Green, Rihanna and Tinie Tempah. Summer will truly have arrived when Aswad take to the stage. One of Britain’s best reggae bands, they are sure to light up Gibraltar with their sunny sound. Other stars include 2010 X-Factor runner up Rebecca Ferguson, who has topped the charts and been nominated for the MTV Europe Music Award, Ex lead singer of the German dance band R.I.O, Tony T, who is not new to the summer love vibe, and Spanish female vocalist Nalaya Brown, who is the resident singer at Privilege Ibiza. “Naturally we won’t be forgetting local talent,” says Chris, and it comes in the form of the soulful sounds of Guy Valarino, who has already played to audiences in Europe and North America. Naturally, an event of this kind would not be complete without one of Gibraltar’s most popular bands. REACH provides strong local content with international pedigree, while Hollie April and Megan Dallas are proof of the new talent coming out of The Rock.

D I Y Mosaic Projects Creating custom features for your home is what makes interior decorating so fun and interesting. You get to choose the tiles for the bathroom, the backsplash for the kitchen and all the little things like the decorations for the walls. One way in which you can make all of these things special is with a mosaic DIY project.
Mosaic Bathtub
Give your claw foot bathtub a makeover and use mosaic tiles. First choose a mosaic glass tile you like, then sand down the glaze from the original tub and start gluing the tiles to the tub’s surface. Ground the tiles and you’re done. It’s not that difficult and the result is remarkable.
Old chair into a Nightstand
Another thing you can do is create a custom nightstand. Select pieces of coloured glass and glue them to the nightstand. You can even create a pattern or a design. Also, you can simply mix the colours and shapes randomly.
Table Revamp
Similarly, you can give your table a makeover. You can use an old, scratched-up table or one you no longer find attractive. Sand down the legs and the sides to remove any glue or other residues and then paint the table. Select a few glass tiles and lay them out to create a pattern you like. Apply grout to the table and them place the tiles. Apply more grout, and then use a sponge to clean the tiles.
Mosaic Mirror
Here’s how you can make a lovely mosaic mirror for your home. You’ll need a mirror, white acrylic paint, gold acrylic paint, a paintbrush, masking tape and mirror mosaic in any colour you like. Apply masking tape to the inside border of the mirror, and then apply a white base coat. Paint the second coat in gold and start sticking the mosaic pieces. BMAG 48
Another Mosaic Mirror Project
If you liked the mosaic mirror project, here’s a similar one. This time a round mirror was used. The supplies needed include a strong glue, mosaic tiles, a mirror, backing board and grout. Paint the board the colour of your grout and glue the mirror to it. Then glue the tiles onto the backing board one by one. Apply grout, let it dry and repeat. Clean off the excess and the mirror.
Soap Dish
For the bathroom, you can make a mosaic tile soap dish. First collect tiles and ceramic pieces. You can also use costume jewellery. Then take a clay saucer and seal it. Spread tile adhesive onto the saucer and press the tile pieces into the adhesive. Mix sanded powder grout with water and apply it on the entire surface. Wipe away the excess.
Mosaic Tabletop
To make a mosaic tile tabletop, there are a few steps you need to follow. First break the tiles with a hammer. Then sort them and arrange them. Spread adhesive on the table working in small sections and start arranging the tiles. Trim them as needed. After that, apply grout between the tiles and allow it to dry for 24 hours. Mix epoxy and pour it over the entire tabletop. Let it set for another 24 hours.
Stepping-Stones
You could also make something for the outdoors. For example, here’s how you can make mosaic stepping-stones. You need a mould, mortar mix, a bucket, gloves, and decorative items. Poke a few holes in the bottom of the tray or mould. Plan the design and then mix the mortar with water. Pour the mix into the mould and embed the decorative items. Let it dry and then pop out the stone.
Window
You can also use mosaic tiles for projects like this one. Select the pieces of tile you want to use, measure the windowsill and then lay out the pieces to figure out how you want to combine them. Use tile adhesive to glue each piece in place. Allow it to dry and apply the grout. Let it set for a day and clean the excess.
Mason Jar Mosaic Backsplash Mosaic Flowerpots
You can also use mosaic tiles to decorate a flowerpot. It’s simple. You need a terracotta pot, spray paint, craft glue and mosaic tiles or vase filler chips. Spray paint the pot and let it dry. Then apply glue on the back of each chip and press it down until you cover the whole pot.
Having trouble choosing a backsplash for your kitchen? How about a mason jar mosaic? Take a few jars and break them into pieces. Then take some adhesive and apply it to the wall one section at a time. Put adhesive on the back of each piece of glass and then press it into place. Make sure it’s secure. Continue until you cover the entire portion of the wall. Take non-sanded grout and apply it between the glass pieces or, better yet, use it to cover the whole thing and then clean the tiles with a sponge.
Colourful Framed Pictures
If you want, you can also make a mosaic tile picture frame, which you can either keep for yourself or offer as a gift. You’ll need styrofoam plates, a cereal box, cardboard, tape, glue, craft paint and mod podge. Wash and dry and plates and then paint them. Create a frame by cutting out a rectangle out of cardboard. Cut out the mosaic tiles and organize them by colour. Then glue them to the frame. Add the photo and also make a stand and tape it to the back of the frame.
Summer TrAy
Another lovely project you can make is a sea glass mosaic tray. First lightly sand the tray to remove any shiny lacquer. Then apply a few coats of spray paint. Apply a thin coat of adhesive to a small part of the tray and add the sea glass. Once you’ve covered a section, repeat the process. After that, add the grout. Scrape off the excess and clean the tiles with a sponge.

Fashion Exhibition
for Charity
After the summer the Bosom Buddies will be organising a special day to commemorate Fashion Years in Gibraltar. Cancer survivors, who since 2006 have taken to the catwalk to obtain money for local cancer charities have come up with this new idea to raise awareness again to this malady that unfortunately touches us all here, in one way or another. They are calling upon all those children, men and women who have in the past modelled with Golt & Associates Model Agency or in the Bosom Buddies Fashion Shows to send their photos to be displayed at the Exhibition to be called “Fashion Years”. On the day of the opening of the photo exhibition there will be a Fashion Show with a selection of models and cancer survivors taking to the catwalk for the cause. It will be a night of entertainment where to “Strike a pose” will be the theme of the night! Please make copies of your modelling photos (as photos will not be returned) and leave them at Heart’s Boutique before the end of June 2014 if you wish to be part of this exclusive exhibition.

KARL ULLGER – RED, WHITE & TRUE: GIBRALTARIANISM
A new exhibition bringing forth the new series of work by local artist Karl Ullger titled ‘Red, White & True: Gibraltarianism’ is based on Gibraltar. The exhibition opened at the Fine Arts Gallery at Casemates on Tuesday 22nd April and will be on display until Tuesday 13th May.

CHEESE & WINE AT THE DSA
The DSA Dance Club recently held their annual cheese and wine evening at the Central Hall. The event was well supported and enjoyed by the members and guests who were treated to a nice selection of cheeses, nicely presented by the organisers, and a range of red, white and rose wines. The evening was enhanced with the presence of a ‘veneciador’ from Sanlucar de Barrameda who displayed his skills serving manzanilla and vino dulce.

GIBRALTAR FESTIVAL FOR YOUNG MUSICIANS
The Gibraltar Festival for Young Musicians is organised by Allegro Music Productions, a registered charity founded in January 2005 by Cathy Batchelor and Wayne Smith to promote and encourage music performance amongst the children in Gibraltar. The festival is an amateur competitive and non-competitive event for instrumentalists and singers of all ages and abilities. The aim of the festival is to provide a friendly platform for musical performance. The festival is an ideal opportunity for children to realise their potential, enhance their performance skills, sharpen their technique and receive valuable feedback from an experienced music adjudicator. Congratulations to the winners!

212 VIP is my absolute favourite perfume. It used to be Lacoste for women as I loved the fresh, clean scent of it, however the shelf life didn’t last long on them and that gorgeous fresh smell would eventually start to smell like curry and I ended up smelling a bit like a chicken vindaloo!

How many pair of shoes do you own? I’d say about 12. I’m not really a shoe fanatic, however I do have tons of pairs of jeans!
Do you bite your nails?
No never, however you will often find me with chipped and smudged nail varnish as my nails are always last minute and I’m just too busy face painting and being a mummy to keep on top of them

Before the existence of my children most definitely yes... Now my two girls bleed me dry

My skinny ripped jeans, however they are a nightmare to put on as my foot goes thru all the ripped holes before getting to the end of them and then I end up ripping them further

Will be totally honest, I don’t really have one! I’m just a down to earth high street girl and not to bothered about labels

Are you a morning person?
Again don’t have a particularly favourite shoe designer. I mean Jimmy Choo has amazing designs, however I don’t own a pair. I get just excited shopping for shoes at Dune or New Look to be honest

Most definitely not... The working day should not start until 10am at least!
If you could be an animal, which one would you be?
Ahhh… this is a hard one as there are certain brands that excel in certain products! I have to say Illamasqua, Benefit and Sugar Pill for their staying power
I did an animal quiz test once and I was likened to as an otter! Not sure I was too keen on that reference... I think I’d prefer to be a butterfly, without having to be a caterpillar beforehand

If you could have any job in the world, what would it be?
Cherry blossom on a tree... Once a blossom tree is in full bloom it reminds me of the beginning of spring. There is something so romantic and beautiful about the tree when it’s in full bloom BMAG 66
I already have my dream job, however my ultimate dream job would be to work on film set as an FX prosthetic makeup artist
