The UA College of Engineering was founded when the University of Arizona was established in 1885. For more than 125 years, UA Engineering alumni have explored, shaped and made habitable the world – indeed the universe – in which we live. Today, our graduates not only build the structures, machines and technologies that power our world, they are also entrepreneurs who develop high-tech companies, create jobs and improve our quality of life. Engineers help people, and engineering programs at UA have enormous breadth and far-reaching social consequences. Research at the College of Engineering is creating new retinas for damaged eyes, affordable water purification systems for developing countries, new imaging systems for early cancer detection, environmentally sustainable manufacturing methods, solar energy systems, earthquake-proof buildings, and materials and vehicles for extraterrestrial research and exploration.
