Airworthiness of your credits: choosing the right model for aircraft financing

Last week the International Registry of Mobile Assets, a Dublin-based global register of aircraft-related leasing and finance agreements, reached a symbolic milestone marking USD 500 billion worth of registered assets. The impressive number is illustrative of the ongoing growth in demand for aircraft finance across the world. However, considering the ever-changing financing interest and LIBOR rates as well as the complexity of aircraft deal structuring and financial weakness of some airlines, it is only natural to ask which finance model would be the most convenient for new aviation investors? Changes in aviation aftermarket influence spares demand patterns As carriers worldwide are determined to benefit from the ever-growing demand, the largest aircraft manufacturers - Airbus and Boeing - have pushed their narrowbody production rates to 42 aircraft per month each, while announcing plans to go over 50 in the nearest future. Earlier, such developments within the industry would mean respective changes in airline spare parts stocking levels and parts demand, since increasing demand for air travel used to represent more flight hours and cycles across the global fleet, meaning that the parts in use wear out more quickly. However, some recent trends suggest that a significant structural shift is occurring.

Common Type Rating approved for A350 XWB and A330 pilot training Airlines and pilots will both benefit from the Common Type Rating pilot training on the A350 XWB and A330 jetliners, further extending Airbus’ concept of flight operational commonality between its fly-by-wire aircraft families. At the same time, as the world becomes a smaller and more accessible place, an increasing number of travellers tend to seek an escape from the pressures of modern living. Read more >

The ins and outs of importing rare/AOG components to Russia During the first 8 months of 2014 Russian airlines carried more than 63 million passengers and 658 thousand tons of cargo and mail, reports the Federal Air Transport Agency of Russia. These numbers suggest that the Russian aviation market is developing steadily. As a result, the share of foreign-made aircraft and the need for spare parts in the country are increasing with every year. However, given the complexity of the local components import procedure established in the Customs Union, how can airlines deal with the import of rare components or spare parts supply in AOG situations? Read more >

Pilots, brace yourselves: the winter is coming The global airline industry performs around 32 million commercial flights transporting 3 billion passengers each year. Nevertheless, the actual profitability of most carriers is still heavily reliant on the efficiency of operations management during seasonal demand changes. As a result, while during the low season airlines tend to roll back their operations in order to crop excessive spending, for contractual pilots this usually means respective changes in the number of jobs available. The question is, however, when a door closes, does a window really open? Read more >
