The latest creation from the Avanti think tank delivers unrelenting performance, and is a clear and significant leap forward in every aspect. Introducing Avanti’s 3rd generation flagship, the Machine M-2. The feel and raw speed is unmistakable - MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.

Every brand in existence today will claim that they have the "best" high-performance racing sail on the market. All bias aside, the performance of this new race weapon from Avanti is unmistakable.

"Avanti sails have been an absolute hit with end consumers around the world. They are light, durable, and fast. A lot has been learned during the past 24-months. Our modeling techniques have advanced, as has our revolutionary manufacturing techniques. Today we really have made huge gains in harnessing the potential of our membrane technology. The M-2, together with the new Rival masts, are a combination that must be sailed to be believed. Three years of non-stop development, and countless hours on the water, have yielded a fantastic product. We are so proud to deliver the M-2, truly a Machine." - Finian Maynard

RE-DESIGNED BACK-END OUTLINE 'MTS' - MODAL TRIM SYSTEM The MTS was developed by Avanti to increase the usable range and performance of the new M-2. Utilizing three clew grommets, aligned in a horizontal line, rather than a normal vertical orientation, the MTS lets the rider choose between three distinct sailing modes. When over-powered, utilize the inboard grommet, and experience a softer leech, reduced boom length, and decreased back-hand pressure. As wind eases, lace up through either the center option, or pick the outside grommet, to create more rail pressure and increased light-wind, or tight-angled, performance. The color map above denotes specific power zones formed from the MTS system. The inside option creates a more active leech and keeps the center of effort low and forward. The center grommet is the intermediate option, giving harmonious balance to the rig. The outside grommet adds support to the roach and moves primary loads outboard, yielding maximum power and drive. The result: The MTS creates wide-ranging tuning modes for every weight, condition, and skill level.

Avanti reduced drag coefficients further by making an all-new lower leech outline, and a reduced foot roach. Numerous planforms were tested and optimized before the final selection was chosen for production. The new foot design yields a good aerodynamic fence along the bottom, and a clean runway for 'exhaust' air flowing away from the rig at high speed. Not only has perimeter tension been improved, spray drag and over-rake splash-downs are greatly reduced by the new cut. The result: Less drag, with the right mix of power and drive.

NO SOCK CENTRE SEAM This is a particularly clever modeling achievement from designer Dan Kaseler. There is literally no down-side, or trade-off to this breathtaking innovation. Most windsurf sails have a pronounced seam 'bump' at the very front edge of the luff sleeve. On the M-2, with an absence of a sock center seam, this distortion and unnecessary aerodynamic drag has been altogether eliminated. The benefits for durability are also clear. Say goodbye to failing stitching and center-seam stretch. With 30mm less material chewed up by seam allowance and no ribbon down the front, the weight savings are substantial and the sock loading is smooth, wrinkle-free, and even. The result: An ultra clean, lightweight leading edge that reduces drag and improves performance.

HORIZONTAL LOAD BANDS These bands are continuous twin layer reinforcements that wrap around the mast to lock the shape in place and turbo charge the sail. Strategically located in key areas of the sleeve, these load bands keep the upper entries fine, and the drafts consistent over a huge range. The result: Shape stays locked down low and forward, even during significant mast deflection.

ALL NEW FIBER LAYOUT FOR THE ENTIRE RANGE Avanti is the worldwide leader in miniature structural sail membranes. Every panel of the M-2 is custom laminated with fiber mapped according to load predictions. This is the future, and Avanti continues to raise the bar with a huge head start over the competition. Zero delaminations and smart fiber layouts have been Avanti’s trademark from the beginning. Nobody builds a lighter, more technically advanced windsurf sail. Period. Over the last two seasons, massive leaps have been made in trajectory modeling, orientation, and placement. Position, yarn count, and alignment are hugely important when considering the behavior and flex of a sail in the wind. With constantly evolving software tools, long hours testing, and a never-quit attitude, Avanti has set a new bar with the M-2. Don’t let us fool you. The truth is that there is more fiber in the M-2, a marked increase in the clew to luff trajectories, and a whole host of tweaks and technical updates to the rest of the matrix. The result: A more direct feel with increased speed, power, stability, and acceleration.

BATTEN POCKET UPGRADES If you are going to utilize the best Carbon Battens on the market, you need to think about the pockets that house them. A major improvement to the M-2 membrane has been the increased amount of Technora fiber custom laminated horizontally along the batten pockets. Additionally, there is a new, lower-stretch scrim inside the pockets that further stabilizes the 90 degree framework of the sail. Avanti introduced super-symmetric overlap pocket designs from day one. The new 3rd generation pockets take symmetry and performance to the next level. The result: The ability to apply more batten tension in the guts of the sail to increase sail body stability and top-end performance.

ALL NEW BIGGER WINDOWS Increasing rider visibility was a priority within the development cycle. The question was how to achieve this goal without negatively affecting the behavior of the membrane matrix. The answer was running the upper edge of the window along the major load trajectories that span clew to the camber above the boom. The result: Increased visibility while maintaining the desired fiber paths in the most critical sections of the membrane.
