Autodesk Navisworks A NOTE ABOUT NAMING CONVENTION I used a number of different conventions throughout this document. I would suggest you review the file names for the subtle differences. A convention is necessary—choosing the right one is up to you. Think searches by trade, building, project. Can someone “reason out” what the file is by the name? Do your abbreviations (STRC for Structural Steel Models) make sense? At the end of the day, just choose something and stick with it. Do not change the naming convention in the middle of a project! The more time you spend on management tasks, the less time you can spend on data. By data, I would explain that from a Navisworks point of view: Walls, doors, windows, ducts, HSS columns, cable trays, and every other object that goes, in, on, or near a building should be considered data. Therefore: if you’re working on the models, you’re working on the data. Data is king! The following clash report and file management images are generated from data exported from Navisworks. We don’t have time to get into the details. Think of them as examples of what you can provide the BIM team.
