KING CHARLES

Main Stage, Trinity Sq. Saturday 21 September at 6pm King Charles is an extraordinary man. He doesn’t look like anyone you know, he doesn’t think like anyone you know and he doesn’t make music like anyone you know. Born and raised in West London, the classically trained singer-songwriter has put a decent wodge of what he’s learnt into a quite extraordinary record that draws down influences from afro beat, rock and roll, glam, folk, hip-hop and country. The heart of each song is lit up by joyous pop and the edges are coloured in by wild and wonderful ideas. If your mind is still open to magic, and you’re interested in songs with some spirit in their belly, songs about love, life, and people – then you will like his music very much. Described as a ‘glam folk’ rocker, in 2009 King Charles won the grand prize at the International Songwriting Competition for his single Love Lust and his debut album, Loveblood, was released last year. King Charles has also toured with Mumford and Sons and loves being on the road, so let’s give him a warm welcome at the gates of Hull!

DODGY

Main Stage, Trinity Sq. Sunday 22 September at 7pm STAND UPRIGHT IN A COOL PLACE, the most recent album from Dodgy was a long time coming - fifteen years since the double platinum selling Free Peace Sweet. From the many media plaudits the new album’s received, Dodgy have successfully overcome the often tricky task of a band reinventing themselves to make a contemporary and relevant album. The first time round, Dodgy were only together for seven years but in that time they sold over a million records worldwide, released three albums and had twelve Top 40 singles, including Staying out for the Summer, In a Room, If You’re Thinking of Me, and the Top 5 hit Good Enough - still a staple of the radio playlists. They sold out gigs all over the UK and were even awarded an unprecedented 90-minute Saturday evening slot on the Glastonbury Pyramid Stage. Since the release of Stand Upright in a Cool Place in 2012, Dodgy haven’t really stopped as live gigs and festival appearances have always been an important part of the Dodgy experience and they continue to tour in 2013. Next up, Hull Trinity Festival! 2

Hull’s Old Town bursts into life with live music performances from local and national talent, from Friday 20th September to Sunday 22nd September. Hull Trinity Festival will showcase talented and exciting local musicians from early afternoon on Friday 20th. Headlining the Main Stage on Saturday is King Charles, then at Sunday’s finale Dodgy will ignite Trinity Square. Fringe activity across Old Town pubs and bars will see the music resonate on...Hull Trinity Festival is a lively music event in the heart of the Old Town.
