S

hooting the show shots for the Lyric Theatre has been an interesting side project for me these last 5 years; bringing together my two career paths in a way my other photography never has. I spent 20 years in Los Angeles, 10 of that as an actress and 10 as a producer (Into the Arms of Strangers: Stories of the Kindertransport, winner of the 2001 Oscar for long form documentary) and photographer. When I returned to Atlanta with my husband in 2006 I continued on the photography path, since production at that time was nothing like it is today and I needed to earn more money than I could make as a stage actress. My college friend, Dee Moore, pulled me into the Suzi’s Awards as a judge for two years which led me to the job shooting the Lyric’s photos and the Suzi’s. It’s a nice connection to my former life and a reminder that acting was always my first love. 4

The Lyric is particularly fun because I was never a musical theatre actress (I can dance, but you don’t even want me to sing you Happy Birthday) and it took a while for me to really appreciate it. I’ve seen plenty of musicals on Broadway over the years, but I really missed most of the old standards. I won’t call myself a fan of all of them as I simply can’t seem to get beyond the way women and minorities were represented in some of the old school shows, but many of them have a musical richness that is impossible to deny. In the 30 shows I’ve shot for the Lyric, I’ve gotten a first class education. They do a great job and I’ve even seen a few there that rivaled the Broadway productions I saw of the same show. Mostly these days you’ll find me shooting weddings and boudoir photos. Feel free to check out my work at www.caycecallaway.com and www.caycecallawayboudoir.com.
