ATGENDER reacts to Hungarian Political Situation

Page 1

Dear ATGENDER Members,

Several concerned inquiries have reached us recently from participants of the 8th European Feminist Research Conference regarding the situation in Hungary. These inquiries ask about the political processes going on in Hungary and ask whether ATGENDER should support a conference in Hungary.

ATGENDER is firmly committed to creating and keeping alive an intellectual forum where feminist strategies in response to extremism, regime changes and loss of freedom now and in the past, in all parts of Europe and outside Europe can be discussed freely.

We can assure you that we are monitoring the situation closely and if necessary we will update you about the developments. At this moment we consider the conference as an important statement that in spite of economic crises and growing extremisms, European gender studies, women’s studies and feminist studies constitute a field that is alive and kicking.

At the 8 European Feminist Research Conference there will be specific parts in the programme of keynotes, panels and roundtables dedicated to discuss feminist strategies in situations of extremism and of loss of political and civil freedoms. We are hoping to see you all in Budapest in May.
