GDi SOLUTIONS FORUM 2014

Innovations For Life GDi SOLUTIONS FORUM 2014 was held between 31st of March and 2nd of April at the beautiful Lone hotel in the city of Rovinj in Croatia. The key topic of this GDi user forum was innovation which helps us in our everyday professional and private life. Participants were informed about news regarding GDi products and solutions and were able to hear and share their own experiences with users coming from countries throughout the EMEA region.

A community of GDi users gathered in the city of Rovinj in order to attend GDi SOLUTIONS FORUM 2014 – INNOVATIONS FOR LIFE. During joyful two days of presentations and networking GDi users, together with GDi staff, showed how GDi products and solutions work in different industries and organizations across continents.

The first day featured a GDi Plenary with introduction speech by Mr. Boran Lončarić, GDi CEO. He welcomed all participants, pointing out that the aim of the Forum and GDi is to make users even more successful, satisfied and happy. He also stated that GDi’s joint community (comprising of GDi staff, GDi users and GDi partners) is evidently doing something right, as GDi recorded growth in 2013 - actually overachieving its development plan.

The Plenary also featured two distinguished keynote speakers who expressed their satisfaction with cooperation with GDi.

Kuwait University City Kuwait University City is one of more recent users of GDi VIZION. Dr. Jasem

Al Ali, Director of GIS at Sabah Al Salem University City, Kuwait University, spoke about new perspectives in operating and maintaining information & communication technology (ITC) infrastructure at Kuwait University. He pointed out product benefits, emphasizing help it provided in implementation of telecommunication network and inventory database at the time the university was being constructed.

HAKOM (Telecommunications regulator) Croatian Post and Electronic Communications Agency (HAKOM) is one of the leading and long-time GDi LOCALIS Cloud users. HAKOM’s president of council, Dr. Dražen Lučić, emphasized that broadband communications represent the foundation of infrastructure

for development of competitiveness, pointing out that increase in broadband density has a direct positive impact on growth of economy.

The first conference day was concluded by a number of noteworthy presentations and a panel discussion with speakers coming from different fields – from innovation to economics.

GDi products and solutions expo was held during both conference days in the hotel lobby area. There the participants could find out more about features, technologies and strategic directions of GDi product teams, including GDi ENSEMBLE, GDi VIZION, GDi LOCALIS, GDi FIELDMAP, GDi FISHERIES, GDi EMERGENCY and GDi ATLAS. GDi users and partners also had the opportunity to speak to leading members of the GDi support & maintenance team in

their “Doctor’s office”, and discuss GDi CONVIVO cloud operations services with GDi experts.

Due to its relaxed and easy-going concept, participants of GDi SOLUTIONS FORUM 2014 had an abundance of time during conference breaks and lunches for one-to-one interactions, and exchange of experiences and ideas for future cooperation.

The second conference day featured GDi solutions track and two GDi users tracks - National/Local Government/ Natural Resources and Telecommunications. In addition to listening to presentations users had the opportunity to exchange their experiences from different fields: education, spatial data infrastructure, geology, forestry, roads management, telecommunications network inventory systems, digital 3D data, etc.

All the presentations given had one thing in common: GDi products which were used in all implementations discussed.

During the third conference day participants had the opportunity to visit the Brijuni national park. It was a joyful trip to a beautiful national park with rich and famous history.

During evenings at GDi SOLUTIONS FORUM 2014 participants networked in a relaxed and elegant Mediterranean ambience at a historic Rovinj waterfront, listening to Jazz music and participating in awards ceremonies.

GDi FORUM 2013 - XVIII. Esri Hungary User Conference

GIS For Everyone GDi FORUM 2013 - XVIII. Esri Hungary User Conference was held between 17th and 18th of October 2013 in Budapest, Hungary GDi Solutions, such as GIS ODEON system for assets management in oil & gas business, and GDi Solutions for electric distribution networks.

In the Research session the speakers talked about exciting developments in remote sensing, soil sciences and agricultural chemistry, sustainable urban and regional development, and energy research.

In the Technical session the audience was able to hear about the latest best practices and user cases from Esri Hungary’s GIS professionals.

This year Esri Hungary and GDi GISDATA Group held their annual user conferences (Esri Hungary User Conference and international GDi User Conference) together, from 17th to 18th of October, 2013. The event was held at the Hungarian Telekom Headquarters.

For more than 20 years Esri Hungary, as a sole distributor of Esri products in the Hungary, has been providing managers and experts who are using Esri products in medium and large companies and the public sector with an option to learn about new and innovative solutions successfully introduced within the past few years.

The focus of the conference was on business and government solutions, innovations in the field of research and development, and presentation of trends in technology.

The main conference topics were: Innovations in ArcGIS version 10.2, GIS cloud and mobile applications,

New ArcGIS products, New data sources.

More than 300 visitors, some of them being acknowledged GIS professionals from government and business sector, were able to listen to more than 40 presentations in 10 separate tracks.

During the Plenary session, Mr. Nick Land, a business development manager from Esri Inc., held a presentation on future of GIS. Mr. Boran Lončarić, CEO of GDi Group was talking about GDi Solutions on Esri Global Platform, while and Mr. Attila Oláh, managing director of Esri Hungary held a live ArcGIS Online demo.

Throughout the Government session renowned local and international professionals held presentations on different topics. One of such presentations described means of supporting EU Water Framework Directive implementation and flood hazard protection by using ArcGIS solutions. Mr. László Tanka (National Directorate General for Disaster Management) was talking about the role of GIS in disaster management, and risk mapping in SEERISK project.

The Business session provided local and international examples of GIS solutions in location analytics, database management, geomarketing, transportation and telecommunications. This session included presentations about

The primary aim of the GDi FORUM 2013 was to serve as a platform and a regional meeting place for professionals where they can talk about their experiences, share their knowledge, bring the latest news about GIS and related technologies, and strengthen productive discussion among end-users and professionals.

A number of awards were given during the conference. The GIS Professional of the Year Award went to Mr. László Tanka, Head of IT Department, National Directorate General for Disaster Management. The traditional Poster Gallery (poster & map exhibition) offered the opportunity for the conference guests to present their own projects to the audience. This year the winning poster was presented by Hungarian Academy of Sciences (HAS) Research Institute for Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry.

The final day of the event was marked by a lottery comprising valuable prizes (such as tablet computers and newspapers subscriptions). 140 attendees filled out the conference questionnaire, indicating the overall satisfaction level of 4.7 (on a scale between 1 and 5). The most popular section was Research and Technical Session. The majority of participants emphasized the quality and diversity of presentations and sessions. They were particularly satisfied with overall organization of the event and services provided throughout its duration.

It Always Seems Impossible Until It’s Done At the beginning of year 2013 GDi hosted an interesting, informative and enjoyable business & technology gathering, wrapping up a challenging, but in many ways, significant year 2012.

After a challenging, but in many ways a significant year, GDi has decided to host an interesting, informative and enjoyable business and technology gathering.

GDi Panel and Awards for 2012 was held with concert and cocktails on January 29th, 2013 at the 17th floor conference hall of the Westin Hotel with a beautiful view on Zagreb, Croatia.

The GDi Panel featured speakers presenting successful practical examples of Croatian exports of IT / software products and services, cloud services for global customers as well as the export of IPR licenses to international markets.

Introduced by Mr. Boran Lončarić, GDi CEO, the panelists shared their success stories in line with the motto GDi had chosen for the event as its own motto in these challenging times: “It Always Seems Impossible Until It’s Done” (by Nelson Mandela).

Mr. Nikola Dujmović from SPAN presented his story of how a company based in Croatia started providing IT services for one of the world leaders in food industry across Europe, USA and Japan, and what specific challenges and opportunities this endeavor had.

Mrs. Damjana Domanovac from Studio Damjana provided an interesting insight into how a relatively small company from Croatia licensed IPR internationally, i.e. franchised a travel magazine around Europe.

Mr. Igor Geržina from Status Produkcija d.o.o. shared his experiences on accessing global market by selling musical content using established cloud services providers.

Mr. Leon Šagovac from GDi explained the GDi’s path of providing IT solutions and cloud services outside Croatia and how new and ground-breaking business models combined with cloud

based innovative solutions can open access to customers in 11 time zones.

GDi was proud to award some of its customers for successful and long term partnerships and exceptional projects carried out in 2012 and for creating positive environments for the development of modern technology and knowledge-based export-oriented industry.

After the award ceremony, the audience enjoyed the performance of Mr. Geržina and his Sax Lounge Ensemble, who presented their recently released and globally popular smooth jazz CD called “Metropolis”.

As always at GDi gatherings, the atmosphere was exceptional and positive as well as friendly and professional at the same time. Everybody enjoyed the time spent together planning future projects and collaborations under the motto “It Always Seems Impossible Until It’s Done”.

Integration and connectivity applications are used for establishment of a common, centralized system for overview and management of processes and data streaming from all applications through a single GDi LOCALIS module (e.g. Visios), and for collecting data from citizens and interacting with them in administrative processes via the Internet (e.g. Forum). GDi LOCALIS Server enables rapid development of custom applications based on a proven development and implementation process - from geodatabase modeling to development of user interfaces.

GDi LOCALIS products: GDi LOCALIS Server GDi LOCALIS Server is a prerequisite for any GDi LOCALIS application. The server manages users, user groups, interface layout/configuration, access to certain application segments, etc.

GDi LOCALIS Public Lights The street lighting module is the unique information set on street lighting in a municipality or a city. It provides functionalities for importing and displaying power supply performance data and monitoring, management and maintenance of public lighting systems.

The module enables communication among local government organizations (owners of public lighting systems), concessionaires responsible for system maintenance, and citizens who are able to report lighting elements malfunctions via the application.

GDi LOCALIS Utility Cadastre The Utility Cadastre module provides control systems for management of infrastructures and facilities related to electric power supply, telecommunications, water supply, sewage management, hot water supply, and transport of gas and oil.

GDi LOCALIS Revenue Management The revenue management module provides functionalities for management of revenues in local and regional

In addition to viewing, the module also provides a search facility, as well as functionalities for identifying and producing data hard copies.

GDi LOCALIS Permits Management The permits management module enables review and visualization of spatial planning acts. The application within the module, named “Urban identification”, provides means for conducting spatial analyses for permits that are to be issued. Based on the application output (and additional information from SL Newspapers (Narodne novine?) the officer makes a decision whether it is possible to issue a permit for a certain area (location, building, etc.).

Roads management module The roads management module is a solution for management of unclassified roads. It provides facilities for import and management of data on road infrastructures, such as route axes, locations of vertical and horizontal signaling elements, traffic equipment, etc. The module also provides functionalities for tracking road sections ownership and legal rights. In addition to government’s roads administration department staff the application is used by authorized concessioners, as well as citizens (in order to be able to report on damages to road infrastructures).

There are three main groups of GDi LOCALIS applications: Applications for operational and transactional maintenance of data (e.g. management of public lighting systems, greenery and vegetation, addresses, etc.),

Custom applications (e.g. customized applications for any administrative function of the government).

Applications for operational use that support specific administrative processes are focused on daily tasks performed by departments in charge of administrative processes.

GDi GISDATA developed GDi LOCALIS Urban identification application in order to make it easier to obtain and manage information on building permits and spatial plans in cadastral plot areas.

The system is comprised of application, user interface and collected and imported data. It interconnects permits database, database of cadastral data, spatial plans data (GIS Vector), georeferenced cartographic representation of spatial plans (GIS raster catalog), and spatial plan register (based on SharePoint technology).

This system is implemented in Construction and environmental protection administrative department in the town of Rijeka and is used by employees in Public Agency for spatial planning and cities and municipalities of PrimorskoGoranska county. GDi LOCALIS Permits Management - Primorsko-goranska County example modular software platform providing generic, horizontal functionalities used for common purposes, such as map control or map visualization and querying.

Each user of GDi LOCALIS permits management system is identified by their user name and password. This ensures distinctiveness between users and their applications. After launching the application displays a log-in page through which registered users can access the system by entering their unique user name and password. In order to use the system unregistered users have to register first. This option is provided by the core module of GDi LOCALIS Server (hereinafter: the Server) which is used in integration of all other GDi LOCALIS modules.

GDi LOCALIS Visios (hereinafter: Visios) is a GIS-enabled system used in supporting business processes and workflow-oriented tasks.

Visios incorporates a widget framework that provides specific widgets in order to support specific functionalities. More importantly, it supports business rolesfocused functionalities that help with executing business processes-related tasks. E.g. the experts from the Public Agency for spatial planning of Primorsko–Goranska county are able to create the visualization of geographic posi-

tion of a certain permit and then overlap it with other spatial data, such as cadastre plots, spatial plans and other base maps.

The server is a central and horizontal software layer that connects the data source with GDi LOCALIS software modules. The core elements of GDi LOCALIS software system are comprised of GDi LOCALIS GEODATABASE, GDI LOCALIS Server and GDi LOCALIS Applications.

GDi LOCALIS server is the middle-tier component of the GDi LOCALIS system as it integrates applications and Geodatabase. The server is based on Esri ArcGIS Server technology which provides advanced functionalities and service-oriented data access. It also includes GDi LOCALIS GDB API which exposes the logic for accessing the data stored within a Geodatabase layer, SSO/AAA interface for administrative purposes and providing access to applications for identified and authenticated users via single sign-on (SSO) technology, and a dedicated portal system for administration of all users and access rights to applications.

User Management The main page of the portal system provides a menu for accessing applications based on user rights. Disabled

applications are displayed in the menu, but they are not highlighted. The portal also has a functionality which enables users to register to the system online.

After the system processes their membership requests they are able to access and participate in areas specific to their interests. Upon registration a unique user profile is created for each user and propagated throughout the system. The registration process can either be fully automated (eliminating the need for offline verification procedures), or set up so it requires additional offline checks. GDi LOCALIS identity management system can operate as a stand-alone application, or it can be integrated with external systems, such as Active Directory, Cloud Identity Systems or central e-Government Gateways.

Once registered, users are able to edit their profile and data access functions via “My settings” menu. They can also change their access password using the “Change Password” function.

Depending on their access rights users are granted access to additional portal functionalities which enable administration and configuration of GDi LOCALIS Server. The administrative access includes functionalities for creating, updating and deleting users, assigning roles to individual users and controlling passwords.

GDi LOCALIS public lighting and greenery management for cities GDi LOCALIS public lights is the unique information set on public lighting. It provides functionalities for importing and displaying power supply performance data, and monitoring, management and maintenance of public lighting systems.

Management of public lighting systems is the responsibility of local governments.

GDi LOCALIS greenery management provides a data model for managing urban cadastre and vegetation in public areas. It includes spatial objects, their attributes, and relations among them.

GDi LOCALIS greenery management supports management of parks, green islands, dividing lanes, tree rows (alleys), playgrounds, and unclassified maintained green areas.

Both applications are used by the city of Split and the city of Dubrovnik administrations. They ensure efficient communication and coordination of activities among representatives of local administration (which owns public lighting infrastructures and vegetation in public areas), concessionaires responsible for maintenance of public lighting/vegetation, and citizens who notify the administration about malfunctioning

lighting elements via the application.

The notification application can either be deployed as a stand-alone solution, or as an integral part of GDi LOCALIS Forum system which provides functionality for a two-way communication between citizens and officers of local administration.

GDi LOCALIS Forum as a local government service GDi LOCALIS Forum is a web-based application currently implemented in the city of Dubrovnik. The application enhances transparency of processes in local administration and improves its rate of response to citizen requests and inquiries. By participating in this system citizens act as detectors of potential “hot spots” providing cues to the local administration where to focus and solve issues first.

All user submissions and requests are recorded in the central database.

GDi LOCALIS Forum application includes modules for: Running polls (questionnaires), Recording citizens’ requirements and requests,

Publishing information on city projects, Publishing proposals, Receiving and answering citizens’ questions, Publishing of conclusions, solutions and decisions.

GDi LOCALIS Forum provides an overview of citizens’ inquiries that are currently in processing, as well as answers provided by local administrations officers. Hence, requests sent to the mayor will be relayed to the department of public relations that will filter and split queries into two groups: those that will be displayed on the website Forum (public issues) and those that will not be displayed.

Citizens are able to submit their requests and requirements via a web form. These include reports on faults in street lighting systems, damages to city property or requests for revision of spatial plans in accordance with insights gained from spatial planning documents.

Highly Responsive Local Government Services Although GIS technology has been widely used for decades in the area of local government, it still appears to be an exotic tool and an excep­tion rather than the rule in the processes of planning and making important strategic decisions in Serbian local governments.

The former municipality leaders recognized this fantastic strategic position in the region and with hard work and vision they managed to make Indjija one of the most developed municipalities in Serbia. One of the integral parts in its development is reserved for GIS technology.

GIS for everyone In local government it is a common practice to implemented GIS on the level of departments. As a result, there are departments that use efficient systems, and isolated or loosely related departments on the other side. Although we can talk about efficiency, the overall benefit of GIS in such a complex environment is minimized by the fact that there are departments, local government administration, municipality management and citizens that are not properly served by such a system or not served at all.

GIS is proving to be difficult to implement in local government units in Serbia because of varying perceptions of what GIS is and what it should be. One thing that is apparent is that it should certainly take years for successful implementation and the process of implementation is much more complex than a simple purchase of software boxes and data. From this point of view, it can be said that these years are behind

the Municipality of Indjija, which can be considered as one of the pioneers of GIS in Serbia.

The implementation of GIS in the Municipality of Indjija started almost ten years ago. The whole municipality has 50,000 inhabitants and is situated between Belgrade and Novi Sad, the two most important cities and economic centres in Serbia. It also lies between

Using digital registry of addresses integrated with geographic content (aerial imagery, street network, POI, etc.) helps users search and locate addresses in the municipality. Having in mind frequent changes which occur in Serbian address catalogues, providing end users with most up-to-date information about addresses is an immense advantage over paper address catalogues.

It supports not only GIS tasks – it is an inevitable component of the decision making process and is now used to apply location and GIS logic to any business function wherever and whenever it is possible.

The first implementation of GDi Localis is related to the presentation of urban plans to citizens. These documents, considered to be of the highest importance for urban, political and socioeconomic processes, became publicly available for all citizens and potential investors. For those who were interested in where construction or urban areas were planned, or how the future plans concerning traffic infrastructure, electricity or water supply would look like – all this information became oneclick away.

GDi LOCALIS has served and handled four urban plans up to now – Spatial Plan of Indjija, General Plan of Indjija and Detailed Regulation plans for two settlements in the Municipality of Indjija.

This makes things easier for future investors, since they can start searching for adequate locations from their chairs using intuitive and interactive GDi LOCALIS Web interface, rather than standing in a queue in front of help desks in municipality offices.

GDi LOCALIS users became all who took part in social and political life of the community.

Aside from providing technical, urban and legal information about Indjija’s territory, GDi LOCALIS also contains a functionality oriented mainly towards public users. This functionality is provided through two different Web GIS applications – Tourist Map of Indjija and Address Registry of Indjija.

GDi LOCALIS implementation brought significant improvements in everyday life of the Municipality of Indjija. Some of the most important are: A ll departments are included in the process of data providing, serving and consuming GIS resources.

Municipality management made their work transparent and offered a plethora of important and useful information to the public. Therefore, they have grown in reputation.

Indjija’s inhabitants got a high level of services.

Investors got an easy access to all the information needed for future investments. Indjija’s potential for investments significantly increased since everybody wanted to work in a public oriented environment with such a fast and high level of services.

These examples of GDi LOCALIS in Indjija are continuously in development and it is expected to have more areas of Indjija’s social life supported by GDi LOCALIS system in future.

Better Management Using Imagery: City Of Belgrade

Introduction Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are now widely accepted as powerful and integrated tools for storing, manipulating, visualizing and analyzing spatial data. With internet technology, GIS was now able to make its concepts more open, accessible, and mobile to everyone. Web- based GIS has enhanced the open use of GIS in three main directions: Spatial data access Spatial data exploration and geovisualization and Spatial data processing, analysis and modeling.

In the web-based environment with basic GIS functionalities, the map becomes dynamic, interactive and accessible to a wide range of users as a visual communication tool.

In accordance with the increasing needs in this field Land Development Agency of City of Belgrade in Serbia has implemented web application, first time of this kind on Balkan, for delivering of photogrammetric images covering 17 municipalities of Belgrade with a total area of more than 3200 km2. The application includes oblique and vertical aerial images integrated with existing GIS vector data.

One key area of use is to enable the municipalities to better manage land development and to identify illegal construction work.

System architecture: Web application developed for this purpose represents 3-tier application, which is organized in three major parts: 1. Presentation tier – a front-end content rendered by browser. The content is generated dynamically.

2. Application tier – this layer implements the logic of the application and 3. Data tier – which manages the persistence of application information.

Presentation tier This tier consists of HTML for defining structures and rendering web page, as well as java script for client-side validation.

Users are enabled to do basic manipulation with vector data – zoom in, zoom out, previewing previous and next extent and identifying objects. On the other hand integration with photogrammetric imagery enables simultaneously displaying the same position on both maps, regardless the map where position is requested.

The ortophoto layer is composed of vertical images in which it is not possible to appreciate the front of buildings.

This layer is a continuous projected mosaic of vertical views. Most of these images were captured in high-resolution flights.

Oblique images are aerial pictures allowing users to visualize the facades of the buildings. Four views are available for every point (North, East, South, and West) and more than one image of any view could cover one particular point, since the images have some overlap between them.

Available measurements: 1. Length - distance between two or more points 2. Ground measurements – measures a distance between two points, taking into account the ground elevation 3. Photogrammetric imagery (Blom Urbex) is located in the middle layer and provides online access to high resolution georeferenced images. All images are stored and served in Spherical Mercator projection.

This is the layer that manages the persistence of application information. It is powered by a relational database server - MS SQLServer including ArcSDE component by ESRI. While traditional RDBMS software keeps track of the tables and records contained in the database, ArcSDE pushes the relational model higher so that client software can manage geographic data.

GDi LOCALIS Energy Efficiency Solar Potential Calculator GDi applied and won the Proof of Concept project that started in December 2012 and will be finalized during 2014.

The project is co-funded by BICRO’s Proof of Concept Grant Fund for 2012.

The project includes the examination of an innovative product concept that allows the user to obtain information about the solar potential at any location and at any time. The project should verify the concept of a server based computing application which calculates the solar potential for the user’s query sent from the field or office based on spatial data on relief, 3D objects and land cover data with the quantity and intensity of sunlight. During this concept proof, it will be necessary to analyze spatial and other data to provide coherent and valid information about the solar potential and the design model for data interpretation. The idea is to include other types of information in addition to spatial data, such as the number of sunny days per year and per season, which will be provided by the organizations that publish such information.

In addition to checking the usability of the data from which the solar potential is calculated, it is necessary to check whether the technology that will be used provides quick and quality response to the user’s query sent from any location, using any means of communication with the possibility of reading the position of users (smart phones, tablets and measuring instruments) and whether the positions read in space satisfy the accuracy criteria for obtaining high-quality data on the solar potential of the requested location.

The goal of the project: The key is to provide the users with a quick and easy access to information about the solar potential. This innovative concept should allow the citizens,

the local administrations and the commercial companies to obtain good quality and updated information about the solar potential of an existing or planned building or construction landplot at any time and at any place using the most advanced communication solutions that are used daily.

In addition to the value of the solar potential, the goal is to collect information about the users’ interest in a particular area. This information would be distributed through additional services to legal entities which are engaged in the distribution and installation of solar equipment. This would help their work in a commercial way.

The concept of the project: 1. Select the most effective and the best environment for providing information to users.

2. Check an innovative concept by developing and testing applications for the calculation of solar resources with physical, meteorological and statistical data.

3. Apply modern devices to access data from any location and at any time.

There is currently no solution on the market that would enables the efficient and rapid distribution of such information to large numbers of users. The innovative concept consists of processing a large number of input data that will provide the users with high-quality data for the locations where they are at a particular moment. Cloud Brokerage Platform Businesses and individuals are increasingly looking for ready-made and easy-to-use applications managed by trustworthy companies offering reliable, high-quality services at a reasonable price. Cloud computing is an emerging technology and business model which lays the foundation for innovative services. The use of the cloud services in conjunction with other technologies, such as satellite positioning, mobile communications and various m2m sensors and devices together create the new value chain ready to be commercialized and monetized. The figure below shows GDi ENSEMBLE in the role of the Cloud Broker.

The cloud-based machine-to-machine (m2m) services, especially when targeting the small and medium enterprises, leverage the cloud computing and provide Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), line-of applications as a service (SaaS), and an application enablement Platform as a Service (PaaS) that could be used by developers to enable custom applications, or integrate data directly into public and private clouds.

Communication services providers (CSP) are facing a revenue decline from the core voice services. The social media slowly substitute the SMS. MMS and video calls never proved to be the next killer applications and data connectivity is becoming a commodity service. Today, everybody wants to be connected and not pay the premium price for mobile connectivity. Can cloud services become the quintuple play and save the future of telecommunications?

CSPs do have the unique position in the market. They provide large customers bases, both residential and business. They have trained 24x7 customer service oriented at the customer’s satisfaction and strong sales organization including the points of sale as well as business sales representatives. Their marketing and communication is superior and people trust CSPs and their brands. CSPs have been developing unique billing and collection systems which can do much more than change tariffs every week. The cross-selling and up-selling opportunities when combined with the traditional CSP’s services with advanced cloud services are opening the potential for growth.

Subsidizing the m2m devices makes the idea even more attractive.

CSPs, however, cannot excel in everything and they must open their OSS/ BSS infrastructure and provide application enablement platforms, which are service oriented and capable of integrating a range of capabilities such as single sign-on, provisioning, billing, application directories and catalogs and location specific capabilities such as handset localization, mapping, routing, address geocoding and other. Along with the technology, CSPs must evolve

Cloud Services Brokerage Strategy The process of IT consumeration has started and it will transform the IT industry and cast a shadow on today’s IT departments, IT organizations and the overall IT value chain. The businessoriented and driven people, teams and departments will stop waiting for IT to deliver the service They will rather turn to the Cloud and see if they can satisfy their needs from the existing vendors in the cloud. By 2015, 35% of the IT enterprise will be managed outside the IT departments and IT budgets . However, it is neither the enterprise market segment that will drive this industry nor the Government. They will see for themselves what the SME segment is doing and this may become a role model for the enterprises as well. Therefore the cloud business must focus at the SME market segment and prepare for selected enterprises and, maybe, regional and local governments who do not have strong IT resources that will jump aboard later.

The cloud services brokerage strategy involves deeply the internal CSPs organization culture into business transformation. Depending on the level of cloud business models adoption, this can range from simple aggregation and later integration of services into one common place over cloud services orchestration and finally and completely transform the business governance to the cloud as the core business culture.

GDi provides timely and knowledgeable technical support designed to help customers deploy, start using and get value out of GDi products and solutions as soon as possible; manage and maintain customer’s solution environment more efficiently. On one hand, GDi SUPPORT is a cost effective and benefit-driven comprehensive program which helps minimize production outages and prevents system downtime, while on the other hand, it is a business benefit that supports actual value creation from the deployed system in years after the initial deployment or after the introduction of changes, upgrades or updates.

As our customers’ business requirements change during the solution lifetime, they can upgrade to the support option that fits their needs at a specific moment of the overall solution lifecycle. There is an option of contracting an additional support option called the Advantage option, which is available only for Enterprise or Premium Support customers and provides even better flexibility in choosing the right option and completely customized approach to support.

When customers purchase the qualifying GDi software product or solution, they are automatically entitled to the Standard Support for a guaranteed period of time. The initial Standard Support is included in the initial product and/or solution purchase price, and this is considered to be the Standard Support within the warranty period.

After the warranty period has expired, the customers can renew and extend their support contract on the annual basis in order to continue using the Standard Support product. Such support is called the Standard Support beyond warranty period. Customers with Standard Support have the option to upgrade to the service level based agreements and extend support to the Premium or Enterprise Support levels at any moment.

The quicker an operator can accurately determine what resources and services are available, where, and when, the quicker the order can be placed, processed, and finally billed for and the quicker the network becomes optimized in terms of costs of maintenance and operations.

The system offers extensive capabilities pertaining to preparation of reports and analyses based on the data stored in the system repository. The reports that are prepared are presented in the system applications and may be exported to files in predefined formats.

GDi VIZION Network Inventory includes the following systems: Resource Inventory is used to collect, process, and provide information about physical and logical network resources. The system stores data about the infrastructure (such as buildings, rooms, room equipment, cable routes, duct segments, cable chambers (manholes), cabinets, utility poles, cables, etc.) and its physical usage (card distribution within shelves, cables occupying ducts, physical ports on devices used by attached cables). You can deploy devices using advanced compatibility control features to match device types and technologies as well as available bandwidth. The system supports logical resource inventory, recording the resource’s functionality, bandwidth, and relationships with other physical and logical resources. The system provides information on network topology and utilization, and features for searching and reserving network connections.

Service Inventory can be used to collect, process, and share information about services provided by the operator. The solution enables service modeling in compliance with most recent TM Forum recommendations so that the telecommunications operator can record all aspects and parameters of its services (both in terms of clients and hardware). Service Inventory is a state-of-the-art utility designed to support service sale and maintenance processes.

Numbering Inventory is used to collect, process, and provide information about numbering ranges and component numbers. The solution can be used to create numbering ranges, designate special numbers, reserve number groups for a specific purpose, allocate numbers, and control number utilization, and to manage records for numbers ported from and to other operators. As a flexible model, it provides the possibility of creating various types of numbering ranges, such as telephone number ranges, IP address ranges, frequency ranges, and others.

Cable Inventory: used to record fiber optics and copper wire cables, their structure, parameters, and connections within cable boxes and distribution boxes.

Cable Connections Inventory: records information about optical and copper connections set up in the network. Can be used to record connections on logical cables that simplify the management of a large number of physical cables.

GDi VIZION - FO Connectivity Logistics Management is used to manage network elements registered in the operator’s warehouses. The solution supports processes for purchasing and registering new assets in the warehouse, moving assets between the operator’s warehouses, transferring assets to the customer through sale, and installing assets at network locations as a part of network expansion or maintenance process. Logistics Management provides information on the network element’s location and properties, controls asset transfer authorizations, and can be used to record information on physical network components and all types of construction materials. Moreover, the solution provides data inputs for periodic reports on current inventory levels, and can be used to model any storage facility chain structure and subsequently control the flow of goods through that chain.

Spatial Services provides addressing information in the right format. This solution is the source of address information for other systems included in the product.

Documents enables efficient retention of electronic documents that can be easily retrieved for browsing. This system acts as the document database for other GDi VIZION Network Inventory systems. Various document retention formats are available, either using the system’s own server file system or through integration with third party solutions (such as Alfresco).

Workforce helps manage personnel and their tasks that are created in the course of business processes launched in other GDi VIZION Network Inventory systems (such as the device installation process, repair process, network expansion process etc.)

Users is used to manage GDi VIZION Network Inventory users and their privilege profiles. The system authenticates each user that logs in to one of the suite’s applications. Once the user’s identity is confirmed, the system determines the user’s privileges which are used by individual GDi VIZION Network Inventory applications to control the user’s access to the right scope of data and functionality.

GDi VIZION Network Inventory is designed for integration with other systems. Data can be exchanged over Web services (invoked directly by external system services, or indirectly through BPM process delivery), or over a data exchange bus (such as Event/ Data Bus).

Numbering Inventory: used to manage the utilization of numbers available to the operator, to support the numbers through sale and activation processes (for gold, silver, bronze, and regular numbers), and to manage numbers imported from other operators.

Digital Map: enables operator’s resources to be shown on digital vector maps, bitmap maps, and maps available on the Web. This feature uses the Esri GIS environment.

Smoothing network change control in oil and gas

Energy Infrastructure Lifecycle: ADCO Abu Dhabi No-Objection Process Excellent new cooperation has opened the doors for GDi operations in the Middle East, with the Abu Dhabi Company for Onshore Oil Operations (ADCO) that operates onshore and in shallow coastal water of the Abu Dhabi Emirate, with several oil fields: Asab, Sahil, Shah, Bab, Buhasa, North-East Bab - Dabbiya, Rumaitha, Shanayel..

K2 Workspace According to the Emirates regulations, it is absolutely necessary for a third party that wants to conduct any activity in the ADCO concession area (either for commercial activities, construction, etc.) to receive the so-called No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the ADCO company. This permission, i.e. the certificate enables third party organizations to use a particular land parcel for predefined activities. NOC is needed for ADCO to issue a certificate for certain activities in order to guarantee that the planned activities shall not influence the ongoing and future operational plans of the Abu Dhabi Company for Onshore Oil Operations.

The No Objection Certificate (NOC) solution, integrated with Esri and EDMS systems used by the ADCO oil company will provide easier and more efficient permit granting to third party organizations using land parcels for their business activities. Previous processes will now become automated and ADCO will use the GDi solution for easier processes management. The solution includes integration with the Electronic Document Management System (EDMS) and the Geographic Information System (GIS) already implemented at ADCO, thus making the whole process more efficient and effective.

NOC management system System roles were created and managed using K2 Workspace. The system provides the possibility of checking if the required land plot is under ADCO’s Concession Area, and is integrated with K2 smartObject Spatial check integration based on web- and ESRI-service.

Since ADCO finds it beneficial to have additional information regarding the NOC request in terms of supporting files, which can be CAD drawings, ESRI Shapefiles (SHP) or text and tables (TXT, XLS), there is an option to upload files. All files uploaded to the System will be related to specific NOC requests and stored in EDMS. The system has the possibility of intelligent quality check on the input information.

If there is a conflict between NOC AOI and the concession area, the system allows for additional manual spatial analysis and sets the NOC status to SPATIAL CHECK. In case that the requested NOC AOI is within the residential area and there are no old ADCO facilities (pipelines, abandoned wells, etc.) in the area, the NOC request will be forwarded for approval.

Each relevant ADCO instance – group of staff, managers – simultaneously review the NOC request. Each APPROVAL group needs to approve and comment the NOC so it can be forwarded

to the final acceptance stage of the NOC process. Each role has an option to ‘Accept’, ‘Reject’ or request additional ‘Clarification’ in addition to mandatory comment/remark NOC request: NOC requests shall be made available on the official ADCO web site www. adco.ae, and the internal process shall be on ADCO’s intranet.

The system will display maps as and when appropriate, work on standard browsers (such as Internet Explorer) without any additional software installations, with supporting communications (notifications) flowing through ADCO e-mail (internal), accessible through the dashboard. The system tracks the existing NOCs at their various stages and sends notifications on its status to the concerned subscribers, requesting an action for completion. These shall be easily configurable and set up as and when needed. The system is able to produce usage statistics for administration purposes, track all communications related to the NOC and document it in the EDMS. It also had a reporting tool (both web based & notification emails with the link). The security model is approved by ADCO’s Security Team and the system follows ADCO IT policies and standards.

GDi ENSEMBLE Fisheries Vessel Management Croatia Leads In EU The geoinformation system for the field of fisheries has been developed for monitoring fisheries in accordance to the directive laws of the Republic of Croatia and reporting to the EU commission for fisheries according to the EU requirements.

data on the first fish sale and sale of other fishery products. The subsidized fuel control system, the fishery support system and the introspective service system with the alphanumeric and spatial data are also available.

Now, as a result of all of this, we have a database used by 400 users. You can access this database through several user friendly web-applications. The applications for the external users are easy to use even for the users with less developed computer skills.

The spatial component of this system is accomplished by the ESRI ArcGIS software platform, which allows the generation and, if necessary, the storage of vessel locations determined through the Vessel Monitoring System (VMS).

Farm locations, fishing areas and other system elements are also stored in the central base (ArcSDE technology and MS SQL Server). They can also be used in the spatial analysis for monitoring the environmental influence, the fish fund, and to prevent possible infections. The ESRI software has been extended to allow for easy work of a larger number of users. The users also attended special trainings.

Figure 1: Web application of the information system of fisheries - The fleet register During the period from 2006 to 2008, GDi Zagreb d.o.o. has built the Fleet register database and the Web-application for inputing, updating and usage of data (Picture 1). By using this application users can print preferences for economical fishing, arrangements for issuing them and make statistical reports.

The upgrade of the Geoinformation system was completed during 2008 and now it allows monitoring in all segments of fishery. The imperative for planning the rational and sustainable management of the maritime resources is to

collect timely information of the catch, the fishing effort, the characteristics of the fishing fleet and the economic effects of fishery. It is also one of the priorities for accession to the EU. For this purpose the sea fishery Geoinformation system was upgraded with a subsystem that enables collection of information about tuna catching, tuna farming and tuna traffic, including an electronic inquest register. The electronic inquest register has a subsystem of fishing licenses for sports and recreational fishing, information about aquaculture and it also contains a system for collecting

Through elaboration within the project „Establishment of geoinformation communication system of tuna fishing control in the Adriatic sea“ (Picture 2), „Making the system for monitoring sea fishery for the Ministry of Agriculture, Department of Fisheries“, as well as through the „Upgrading, updating and preservation of Fleet register“ project (2007 and 2008). The production of the Electronic inquest fishing register, the Maricultural register and the creation of the first fish sale system (Picture 3) has also started with this project. Through this work, experiences are acquired and best solutions are found for the input and usage of data of the Geoinformational system of fisheries.

Registers of the Geoinformational system of fisheries include alphanumeric data necessary for monitoring and analyses. Due to a large number of files and thematic units, the system is organized in several modules. The data that is entered through forms in the specific modules is connected with the data from the other modules and also with the spatial data which is registered through the fishing vessel monitoring system (Vessel Monitoring System VMS).

Searching, browsing and data analysis

The users are organized in groups and have access to specific segments of the database. The groups are (Picture 4):

Vessel monitoring system The geoinformational–communicational fishing vessel monitoring system (VMS) in the Adriatic Sea is a multipurpose and multifunctional system for acquiring,

A tracking device is installed on every fishing vessel included in this geoinformational–communicational system.

Devices are installed on vessels in a way that other electronic systems don’t obstruct their work. Device funkcioning must be independent, not connected to other systems on the vessel (the device may use external power source). Every tracking device sends data to the data-

base via two communication channels, GPRS and SAT (Iridium) in different time intervals. In that way better safety, transfer and data control are ensured, and cost is minimized. The data necessary for the VMS system work are stored on the central office server of the Department for Fisheries at the Ministry of Agriculture (Fig. 5).

The system collects information of vessels in real time (now 280 vessels, in future 420 vessels) about location, speed, direction, battery status. Along with this basic functionality, the system has the possibility of tracking history, alarms, pooling, data transfer. It was developed based on ESRI ArcGIS Server Enterprise Advance using API for JAVA script programming tools and Esri ArcObjects.

GPRS/EDGE/UMTS (depending on signal quality and strength) – custom developed for Department of fisheries to send data every 15 minutes or less (remote control). This is due to geographical characteristics of the Adriatic sea with large number of islands and a long coast line.

The VMS data is stored in the MS SQL database and is published on the web through the ArcGIS Server as dynamic content. The Web-application is custom made and it enables the users to selectively manage and track historical and updated data through filters and alarms.

Alarms are divided into system and spatial (protected, forbidden or time control areas) alarms. Both are instantly transmitted to field inspectors via SMSs.

The iInside users at the Department for Fisheries have access through the web-application, which they access via web browser. The VMS system supports distributed work at the Department for Fisheries central station, in county offices and in firms – fishing vessel owners.

The results of a search are ranked by spatial proximity instead of relevance, thus enabling location-based searches on mobile devices. By realtime searching the web, the technology exceeds the limits of traditional POI databases. The search engine is not only able to serve end-users, but to provide automated POI database services.

Search softwares and search engines, systematically crawling the World Wide Web seeking various information regarding web pages, are quite widespread technologies nowadays. Efficient search engines already proved their business feasibility: personalized advertisement is the most successful known way to make a search engine do financially well.

The database on the server is built up by the crawler engine and information collection is based on it. The multithreading application is scanning the web and running in the background.

It saves the URLs, the geographical addresses and the full content of the web pages. It generates a large database in which the web content is indexed according to URLs and geographical addresses. The crawler engine rechecks the web content from time to time and tracks the changes via version control.

Searches can be executed on the server via web from the saved database. The result is displayed through the ArcGIS Server. The user can view the whole list of results (e.g. for the whole country) or the pages can be filtered to provide only the important information for the user (e.g. restaurants, cinemas, clubs, schools, petrol stations. etc.). The user can give his current position by a single click to get the close surrounding area results from the system.

Another development of Esri Hungary, MobileSocial framework allows information from the server to be displayed on mobile phones as well. Web page contents, close to the user’s current position (located via GPS), can be viewed. The MobileSocial framework allows you to contact your friends thorough social networks.

The application enables the user to locate the vessels in real time, receive detailed report on vessel’s movements, learn the exact time and location of the vessel in case of distress, threat or damage, check the sailing route in the past or obtain detailed statistics on the boat’s route sailed, time, maximum and average speed.

GDi VIZION At VIPnet After acquiring B.net in August 2011 VIPnet became the largest provider of cable-based services in Croatia, offering a full spectrum of telecommunication services: cable TV, broadband Internet access and telephony. VIPnet is present with its network and its B.net brand in all major national and economic centers (towns of Osijek, Rijeka, Solin, Split, Velika Gorica, Zadar and Zagreb). With increasing number of users and ever-expanding infrastructure requiring complex tracking and maintenance solutions, VIPnet experienced a demand for finding a faster and more efficient solution for network inventory management.

The previous system B.net relied on for network inventory management was comprised of series of disparate applications that were not interconnected.

Namely, cable routes and network elements were sketched in Micado, Cacao and AND were used for network capac-

ity calculations, AutoCAD was used for outlining optical cable infrastructure, while Excel was used for keeping the inventory of optic fibers and their connection diagrams. In order to integrate and optimize this system GDi VIZION solution was chosen as a replacement.

It integrated all aforementioned functionalities into one system, providing VIPnet with up-to-then nonexistent solution for centralized management of physical component of their hybrid opto-coaxial fixed network, as well as efficient management of their network infrastructure and business processes – such as issuance of permits and requests. Additional benefits of this system are reflected in easier identification and recovery from failures, preemptive malfunction detection and more prompt and efficient notification of users about network maintenance events. VIPnet’s field technicians are also able to access GDi VIZION via their smartphones. This

makes their work a lot easier as they are able to resolve client-side issues more quickly, making VIPnet users all the more satisfied.

The full implementation of GDi VIZION system in VIPnet is expected to be completed by June 2014.

Esri is gathering its partners at the Esri Partner Conference in Palm Springs each year. The event represents a great opportunity to find out more about new Esri products and services, to talk with partners and distributors from around the world and to present one’s own projects and products.

GDi presented GDi VISION, a set of its own solutions for telecommunications industry during the conference, drawing attention from large number of con-

GDi VIZION For Kuwait University Communication Assets In joint operation with local partner Openware Kuwait, GDi met with KUC authorities and presented its GDi VIZION solution for inventory management and provision of support for design processes in fiber-optic networks. A sample network design was created and implemented along with GDi VIZION system, creating the foundation of Sabah Al Salem Kuwait University communications assets management system.

The Kuwait University (www.kuniv.edu/ ku) maintains its own telecom network.

Established as early as 1966, it now houses approximately 25,000 students and offers over 1,000 courses. Currently, the new Kuwait University City (KUC) complex is being constructed. The Kuwait University authorities decided to support the process of designing, constructing and documenting university facilities, infrastructure and media in GIS environment.

GDi Receives The European Satellite Navigation Award

The project was carried out in several steps, including pre-implementation analysis phase, data model preparation phase, data migration phase, installation configuration phase, ArcGIS services configuration phase, and project management phase which was initiated early-on (during construction stage) in order to assure the optimal quality of KUC fiber optic network design.

The implemented solution enables network professionals to more easily design and document new telecommunication networks and put them in relation with other utilities (such as water, gas and electricity), and existing infrastructure (such as facilities, trenches, manholes, etc.). GDi VIZION has the functionality to export the inventory data on communications infrastructure to a central GIS repository that stores information on all university resources (such as buildings and utilities).

GDi products have once again been recognized in the European competition of innovation in use of satellite navigation and GNSS systems – European Satellite Navigation Competition 2011, held on October 19th 2011 in Munich under the sponsorship of the Bavarian Ministry of Economy, Infrastructure and Technology. ESNC – European Satellite Navigation Competition 2011 is an international competition of innovation in the field of satellite navigation held since 2004. It was organized by the Center for advanced and innovative applications Anwendungszentrum from Oberpfaffenhofen, with the support of the European Agency for the global navigation systems (European GNSS Agency), European Space Agency (ESA) and others. Croatia had a representative in the competition thanks to the Međimurje Regional Development Agency – REDEA. The competition was open to companies, entrepreneurs, academic and research institutions as well as for individuals from around the world. This year around 800 participants registered together with 400 innovative ideas. GDi applied to the competition and won the regional award in the category of the innovative idea called “European portal with cloud services based on m2m communication for small and mediumsized enterprises“. Starting point for this idea was a trend in which companies increasingly seek and consider the use of simple and ready-made business applications along with advanced integration of technologies such as satellite navigation, cloud computing and m2m communication, which are all individually inaccessible for small and medium-sized enterprises.

Inspiration

INSPIRATION: Advancing Spatial Data Infrastructure In South-Eastern Europe As a regional leader in GIS and SDI, GDi GISDATA, together with consortium of partners, steered the implementation of the EU regional INSPIRATION Project to a successful touchdown.

The project comprised a series of studies, workshops, training sessions and conferences across a number of countries in Southeast Europe in order to transfer knowledge and experience and create suitable atmosphere for further accelerated development of coordinated implementation of geospatial technologies. The ultimate goal of the project was to promote increased use of spatial information by all societies.

Project INSPIRATION - Spatial Data Infrastructure in the Western Balkans was a multi-country project aimed at promoting spatial data infrastructure (SDI) and coordinating its implementation in the Western Balkans by preparing beneficiaries to adopt principles and provisions of European INSPIRE Directive.

INSPIRATION contributed to creating a favourable environment for using accurate, up-to-date, high-quality, well structured and accessible spatial data in local, regional and national level administrative bodies in the region. Beneficiaries of the project were the central

land administration authorities in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, the FYR Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, and Kosovo*. The project was implemented in a period from January 1, 2012 to December 31, 2013.

The three main project activities were Development of policies, conducting institutional and legislative framework analyses and providing recommendations, Building capacities and transferring knowledge,

Signing of the Memorandum of Understanding at the Final European INSPIRATION Conference in Sarajevo Raising awareness and communicating about the project.

The project team completed the regional study and recommendation reports used in all project activities, as well as seven national legal and institutional reports with accompanying recommendations. In addition to three regional INSPIRE training events, fourteen national workshops, seven INSPIRE Days, two INSPIRE Forums, one regional education conference and European INSPIRATION conference were also held.

The project also supported two regional Conferences on spatial data infrastructure and cooperation in cadastre.

Project activities included development of seven INSPIRE Brochures comprising common regional content and specific chapters for each country, as well as providing support in organization of two conferences on regional cooperation on cadastre and SDI initiatives, preparation of two related annual regional Cadastre and SDI studies, creation of INSPIRATION video content, and participation in two pilot -projects: Implementation of regional metadata Geoportal,

Implementation of the best idea presented during Ideas Competition.

Since regional cooperation was given a priority position (per reports recommendations), networking with other regional initiatives and projects in related fields (such as education of public administration, cooperation on river basin management, or development of general regional cooperation framework) was also highly encouraged.

All project activities were rated successful by beneficiary Project Team and the Management Board. The project also received praises and favourable comments at regional training events and national workshops.

All project findings, reports, INSPIRE brochures, presentations, INSPIRATION video content and other documents are accessible through the project’s website at the address www.inspiration-westernbalkans.eu.

The content available at the site has already been recognized by many organizations and individuals as a useful tools in spreading the word about benefits of geoinformation, GIS and spatial data infrastructures.

GDi For The Arts Harmony Of Music And Technology

GDi Group supports arts – especially music – combining them in a unique way with technology, and thus contributing to culture. In 2013 and early 2014 GDi released three jazz albums by Igor Geržina, Kristian Terzić Band and Elvis Stanić Group under the label “GDi For The Arts”.

This album will also feature a number of international musicians: Jazz pianist Bojan Zulfikarpašić from Paris, bass player Nenad Vasilić from Vienna, Yurdal Osman Tokcan and Hakan Gungor from Turkey (playing oud and kanun), and Boško Jović from Zenica, playing a guitar.

With this newest sponsorship GDi continues its support of music authors in the region.

GDi For The Arts GDi Embraces And Supports Jazz Music

In addition to business aspects of GDi Solutions Forum 2014 the participants could also enjoy social features of the event, such as relaxed Mediterranean

networking combined with Istrian buffet dinner. As great company and great food go hand-in-hand with great music, GDi also organized two exquisite Jazz

concerts in city of Rovinj’s Multimedia centre. On Sunday evening on 30th of March Kristian Terzić Band held a special fusion Jazz performance. The evening after, on Monday on 31st of March, the stage was set for young musicians on the rise - Alba and Leo, accompanied by famous performers at the European Jazz scene - Elvis Stanić and his Group, featuring Meri Trošelj.

In order to keep fond memories about these special music events all conference participants were given CDs with scores performed by Kristian Terzić Band and Elvis Stanić Group. The CDs were under the label “GDi For The Arts”.
