It’s that time again – time for the Ninth Leatherhead Drama Festival which runs from Bank Holiday Monday 7th May till the Gala Awards Night on Saturday 19th May at the Leatherhead Theatre. A TRULY VARIED and EXCITING PROGRAMME
Despite some earlier concerns when the local council grant was withdrawn, we have managed to prepare another premium programme this year. We are especially grateful to all those individuals and groups who have demonstrated their love for local drama with their financial support and who have made this possible. The two weeks of drama will feature 11 Junior and 12 Adult plays, and the programme is very varied and looks exciting, including nine completely new plays. (Programmes at the Theatre or on the website) With two or three plays each evening you are assured of a good night out, each and every night! The availability of Season Tickets means you can watch a whole week’s programme at a bargain price! Well worth considering.
SIR MICHAEL CAINE SUPPORTS THE FESTIVAL
Sir Michael Caine is Patron of the Festival and hopefully he will present the trophies again at the Gala Awards Night in 2012 (filming schedule permitting).
ADJUDICATION
The Festival is a competition and the plays will be performed in front of the audience and the professional adjudicator Jan Palmer Sayer, a Member of the Guild of Drama Adjudicators, who will assess each play and give her verbal adjudication each evening. The Junior and Adult Winning plays will be re-performed at the Gala Awards Night on 19th May.
AWARDS
The Drama Groups, several of whom are new to the Festival this year, will be competing in the Junior or Adult sections for the unique and coveted “Sir Michael Caine Drama Awards” (including Best Play, Best Actor and Best Actress), the “Richard Houghton Awards” and special trophies for “New Writers”. Winners, runners-up and those nominated for awards will receive certificates.
But do come along and judge the individual plays yourself !
