A big welcome to Night of Festivals London, especially created to provide an exciting, colourful, vibrant and FREE artistic celebration, for the whole family, on the Potters Fields Park and More London sites this August. We hope that you will enjoy our varied and rich programme that includes constant carnival and samba throughout both days of the Festival, live music, dance, theatre, visual arts installations (including the interactive Chimes), family storytelling and of course our amazing Nigh Time Lit Carnival. We are marking the opening weekend of the Rio Olympics with a special focus on Brazilian and Latin American culture. There is also a strong European dimension with artwork and performances from Romanian, German, and Bulgarian cultural organisations and artists.
NIGHT-TIME LIT CARNIVAL 8.30 - 10pm Saturday 6 August
• 8.30pm Carnival procession leaves the Design Museum at Shad Thames • 40 performers wearing inflatable lit costumes with stilt artists and accompanied by the drummers of Sabar Sounds! • Procession along Shad Thames, across Potters Fields Park and around More London to HMS Belfast, returning along Queen’s Walk to Potters Fields Park • 20 minute finale performance at 9.30pm (with especially composed recorded music) on Potters Fields Park • The Night Time Lit Carnival is a collaboration between Stelzen-Art, Oakleaf Creativity and Mandinga Arts, directed by Tom Lanzki.

THE STORYTELLING YURT
From 2-6pm on Saturday and 11am - 6pm on Sunday there will be regular storytelling sessions led by the experienced professional team The Storytelling Café. The theme of the stories will be Latin America and the content is suitable for children of all ages (plus parents and grandparents!) Sure to be popular and only 50 places per story
THE CHIMES INSTALLATION MASCA Theatre
Masca Theatre from Bucharest, Romania, specialises in mime, gesture and physical theatre. Whilst the company has toured extensively across Europe it has never performed in the UK before Night of Festivals London. For its first ever UK appearances Masca will perform two different presentations from its repertoire: Living Statues - a presentation by ten actors on Potters Fields Park (2pm and 4.45pm Saturday and 11.45 and 3.45 Sunday) The Wall – an intense mime piece with two actors at The Scoop at More London (3.15pm Saturday and 2pm Sunday)
Especially for Night of Festivals London, ArtReach is delighted to present the interactive, giant “Chimes Installation” from Sabar Sounds. Available daytime and Saturday evening on the space adjacent to City hall, above The Scoop. Come and play!!
CARNIVAL and SAMBA ARTISTS
Throughout both days of the Festival carnival and samba keeps the action going throughout each day. See our Festival calendar for detailed timings as to when each group will be appearing. Our core carnival and samba partners Mandinga Arts and Paraiso Samba are joined by many other extraordinary companies this August as part of our particular focus on Brazil and Latin America.
THE PLINTH PROJECT
Night of Festivals has commissioned special visual arts “plinth” installations as part of the European collaboration FREEDOM project. The following can be seen on Queen’s Walk: Be the Change by Romanian artist Lea Rasovzsky The Society of the Spectacle by Bulgarian artist Georgi Balabanov ILMGP and Knot by German artist Petra Kilian Also, look out for UK Live Artist, Richard Layzell, presenting his own unique version of Speaker’s Corner
FREEDOM WALL
ArtReach has commissioned artists Golden Green (from Germany) and Greg Stobbs (UK) to design and deliver urban art “landscapes” on Southwark walls and temporary structures on Potters Fields Park. In addition you can contribute to an urban art piece for community exhibition. Come along to the Freedom Wall on Saturday afternoon and paint with Graffiti Stars!
