Artemide was founded by Ernesto G ismondi and Sergio Mazza in 1959. Known for its philosophy THE HUMAN LIGHT that places men and the pursuit of their well being at the core of research and development, Artemide has always been synonymous for Design, Innovation and Made in Italy. In almost half a century of business and entrepreneurial experiences, a surprising common characteristic is revealed. Artemide products do not conform to traditions, trends, fads, nor a fashion statement of the moment. This approach defines the Artemide experience which is the exhausting desire to find solutions to the human demand for lighting, even if still unexpressed and u nconscious. The individual is constantly placed at the center of the project. Formal and aesthetic needs, technological innovations, individual and collective talents have been, are, and always will be d edicated to this purpose. 132 5. 132 5. ISSEY MIYAKE is an extremely ingenious way by which to make clothing. The project comes from the intersection of creativity and mathematics, resulting in clothing that can be folded flat and become 3D shapes, starting from a single piece of cloth. As the Reality Lab. explored 132 5. ISSEY MIYAKE’s potential in areas beyond clothing, a natural extension of the process was lighting products. The innovative meaning of the “132 5. ISSEY MIYAKE” lies in its numbers: 1 refers to the unique piece of fabric at the basis of each creation. 3 refers to the tri-dimensionality. 2 refers to the two-dimensionality that the folded shade starts from and that it can go back to at any time. 5 refers to the metamorphosis turning folded shapes into c lothing or objects.

RECYCLED FABRIC The fabric at the basis of this project has been obtained after intensive research on materials led by the Reality Lab. The result is a recycled material with a unique ability to diffuse light, made of a regenerated fiber coming from PET bottles. The processes for the realization of the fiber allow to reduce by 40% the consumption of energy and the CO2 emissions.
