Hi, my name is Jeni Baker! Finding ways to be creative every day is an important part of my life, whether it be through my sewing and quilting, photography, fabric design or blogging. I love nothing more than to be surrounded by fabric, and my favorite part of the sewing process is choosing colors. I love figuring out how to make things work as well as designing my own patterns. Currently, I teach sewing classes part time at The Sewcial Lounge, a modern sewing and fabric shop in Madison, WI. I design fabrics for Art Gallery Fabrics and design sewing patterns under my own name. In addition to sewing, I love to bake, go thrifting, and collect vintage kitchenware and vintage sheets. I’m originally from Northeast Ohio, where I was born, grew up, and attended college. I graduated with a degree in Marketing and Studio Art from Baldwin-Wallace College in 2011. We try to make it back home at least twice a year! I first started blogging in 2000, around the time the term “blog” was first being used. My blogs then were more like personal journals and makeshift portfolios. I took a break from blogging while I finished high school, but found myself revisiting the hobby when I started sewing more seriously. In Color Order was started in Spring 2009, as a place to share my projects and thrifting finds. I have a Janome Horizon 7700 and a Janome Memory Craft 4800, and I love them both! They’ve served me very well. I quilt the majority of my own quilts, from mini quilts to a queen sized quilt. I have a vintage Singer Featherweight 221 as a backup/travel machine. My latest collection is called Geometric Bliss! It is a blissful collection of folk inspired florals and edgy geometric prints full of movement.
