Edenthorpe Community Centre The centre is run by a group of volunteers and is a registered charity, it stands on Cedric Road, Edenthorpe, it is available to hire for a wide range of activities. Since opening up again in June (and hopefully further after the 19th of July), we’ve lost some groups and gained others. There is a wide range of activities at the centre to suit all ages and abilities, our keep fit classes like Zumba, Yoga, Kettlebells, Boogie bounce, Pilates etc are suitable for all levels even if you’ve never been to an exercise class. We have Sequence dancing and Line dancing which also has a beginner class starting soon. We also have short mat bowls, badminton or a relaxing Art class, and for the children there’s Monelly Music Hummingbirds, Tots Development and Relax Kids . Edenthorpe ladies meet at the centre for a coffee and a chat once a month and our Church group have various activities in the week and a church service for all the family on Sundays. The centre has some weekly slots available to hire for daytime activities in the main hall or evening/daytime in the smaller room. The centre has two rooms, the main hall can hold 150 people seated for parties, weddings etc. it is the ideal venue for Children parties accommodating a large bouncy castle with plenty of space left to play. Children’s Party’s can be booked on Saturday & Sundays they are currently £60 for 3 hours hire including use of the kitchen and new coffee bar. The smaller room holds up to 36 people and is ideal for smaller groups or classes.

Friends of Quarry Park Friday 2nd July saw Quarry Park volunteers meet for our monthly work party. It was a pleasant morning for 15 of us to meet supported by two of the DMBC countryside Rangers. We also welcomed another ‘brand new’ volunteer and our regular numbers are well and truly on the increase. We split into three groups, one group did cutting back and tidying the area at the side of the zip wire. Another group tackled the area at Carrot Corner lowering the hedge so when you are sitting on the bench you have great views across the fields, they also did some cutting back around the other entrances into the wooded area. Then we had our litter pick group who managed three full bags of litter from around the park, they also cleaned all of the information boards around the Park. A job well done by all of our volunteers, thank you! Our AGM will be held on Wednesday 21st July at 7pm at the Methodist Church on Greens Road, Dunsville which will be Covid safe and socially distanced. All are welcome but please let us know via our Facebook Event dmunds FREE QUOTATION page or email 24 Hour Emergency lectrical thequarrypark@gmail.com if you will be attending so we Call out can be prepared for the appropriate numbers. All Aspects of Testing ervices Please bring a mask if you feel it necessary. Tea/coffee and biscuits should be available if Covid restrictions Domestic & Commercial Rewires allow. Free Exhibition by Thorne Camera Club During August and September shops in Thorne will be hosting an Exhibition of Work by Camera Club members taken during the past year or so. Make sure you have a look for it as you walk around the town. Members did not put their cameras away, but tried to find interesting things to photograph during the lockdowns and between. Here are shops taking part in the Exhibition this time. Archdales Bakery Bell Brothers Opticians Bulls Eye Hameltons Beverley Jane Occasions Canterbury House Richard Laws D Gravel & Son Parkhurst Opticians The Camera Club would like to thank each of the shops for taking part in our Exhibition and especially, the Club would like to send Thorne Times our grateful thanks for all their support throughout the time the club has been running and during this pandemic. Also Thorne Post Office, Library, and Sainsbury's for displaying our posters. Apologies to all the other shops in the central Thorne area for not contacting them, but as this is the first exhibition we have done this way, we decided to limit ourselves to ten shops taken at random. If it is found to be of interest to the people of Thorne, the exhibition could be expanded to cover more shops. The exhibition will start 16th August and finish 18th September with each shop displaying two images, one facing on to the thoroughfare for the general public to view and one into the shop for the customers appreciation. Several outings have been organised by the Club, thanks to the Programme Secretary and certain members who volunteered, with only a little gentle pressure, to lead the outings. Without these members there would be no outings. On a glorious Bank Holiday Monday, a visit to Temple Newsam gave members the opportunity to visit what is known as the ‘Hampton Court of the North’, a palatial stately home in beautiful grounds. Later came a different kind of visit, to Skipwith Common near Selby. Wild goats, sheep and cattle live on the common as well as the more usual wildlife, although with sociable members chatting, the wildlife may well have had time to hide away. Other activities for members include a portrait shoot, a night visit to York for low light photography, and possibly a trip to Beamish Outdoor Museum in County Durham.

Hatfield Town Cricket Club It's been a hectic time at HTCC these last few months with games coming thick and fast for all age groups and it all being managed within the Government and ECB guidelines. The 1st XI set themselves a target of matching last season's 6th place finish in Division 1 and so far they have produced some excellent performances and sit 2nd in the league, having only lost 1st place when their Hooton Pagnell fixture had to be abandoned. It's been a great team effort with everyone contributing at some point of the season. The highlight has to be a hard earned away win at the then unbeaten Ackworth CC. Skipper Dave Barrett top scored with 87* supported by Ellis Pattison 27 and Luke Cockburn 35 as Town reached 187-4. After a positive Ackworth start Town fought back with James Winstanley 4-22 and Ellis 2-14 reducing the hosts to 166 all out and send Town to the top of the league. The 2nd XI have now hit top spot in Division 4 following a victory over fellow high-fliers Bullcroft Main. It was a good day for Shehzad Hussain who hit a brisk 47 before following up with 4-52, Andy Cutts 30 and Phil Decent 28 helped Town to 176-8 who then bowled out the visitors for 100 with Andy Decent 4-20 bowling well in support of Shehzad. The seasons performances, so far, bode well for their move to the Yorkshire South Premier League, Senior Section next season. The Evening League team have also been going well and sit 2nd in the league behind Bawtry who they then beat to reach the cup final for the 2nd season running where they will face Yorks Premier League outfit Doncaster Town CC. The Women's team have been going well in Division 2 with some strong all round performances from the squad, which continues to grow. Special mention to youngsters Amy Jordan and Izzy Chambers backed up by all the squad which see's them currently joint top. The junior teams have all performed admirably with the Under 11's currently joint top of the league and the Under 13's and 15's also in the top half of the table and the young Under 9's sponsored by 'The Arrow' training twice a week as they prepare for more fixtures to come after getting their first win away at Bentley CC. We must give a thanks to all parents and children for bearing with us as fixture dates and training times have had to be continually changed due to illness and school isolations. The coaches have had the thankless task of arranging and rearranging these fixtures and training sessions whilst trying to ensure all the kids get an equal amount of playing time. Well done to them for their perseverance and to the kids for remaining enthusiastic throughout. It's also been good to see them taking advantage of our new training pitch and net on weekends, excellent commitment from them. Hopefully more settled times lay ahead for us all. Thank you all for your continued support.

DONCASTER CANCER DETECTION TRUST August is usually the main holiday month, although it will still be different this year for many of us. Whether you are having a staycation or are holidaying abroad, we hope you enjoy the break and change of scenery. We must apologise for the delay in updating our website which we mentioned last month. The problems have finally been resolved and you can read all about the biopsy machine which has been installed in the Urology Department at Doncaster Royal Infirmary. It has been made possible through your generous donations and those of various organisations, clubs and groups who have continued to support us through one of the toughest periods most of us have known. We cannot thank you all enough and you should be very proud of yourselves. We would also like to mention that we have bought 50 bags of toiletries for breast cancer patients at a cost of £1,200. This was made possible through funeral donations in lieu of flowers for a lady who died earlier this year. Our new appeal has been slightly delayed, but we hope to bring you news of it next month. Should you wish to contact us in the meantime our details are: 22 Wood Street, Doncaster DN1 3LW (entrance by the side of Kerry Gough Florists), second floor (lift available), Room 209. Tel. 01302 325029. Email: info@dcdt.co.uk. Website: dcdt.co.uk. At the time of writing further restrictions had not been lifted, but we sincerely hope you all stay safe and well as we look forward to more freedom.
