MAYFLOWER ROTARY CLUB All efforts are now being placed on organising this year’s Billericay Christmas Market that will be held in Billericay High Street on Sunday December 1st to ensure that the success of the past three years is repeated. This free community and charity fund raising event attracts 20,000 visitors on the day and we do not want them to be disappointed. Back by popular demand is the ‘Downton Abbey’ carousel as the centre piece of the car park kiddies rides. Following his parade that starts at 11am, Santa will take up residence in his Grotto [sponsored by Harlequin Montessori Nursery] in the Day Centre in Chantry Way behind The Chequers where children can visit him for free and have free face painting while they are entertained by a balloon modeller as they wait their turn to see Santa and receive their gift [courtesy of The Candy Bar]. Also, there are free Punch & Judy shows [sponsored by BDRA] in the Reading Rooms. Mums and Dads have plenty to enjoy as well with some 150 stalls selling a variety of goods including the ever popular hog roast and mulled wine and some 100 shops and businesses will be open. This year there is an opportunity to win a cult car in a raffle for a Nissan Figaro Pink provided by enjoy... clairey fairy cakes where tickets can be purchased from their shop at 48 High Street. All net proceeds from the Raffle and Billericay Christmas Market go to the Thriftwood School 6th form project and other Rotary Charities. More details are available on our website www.billericaychristmasmarket.com . New members are welcome to join us. In addition to charity fund raising there is a social programme of fun events to be enjoyed with like minded friends. We meet in Rose Hall, Chapel Street at 8pm on Thursdays. BILLERICAY LIONS CLUB Just a reminder that there will be a quiz on the Last 5 Decades to be held on November 16th at Christchurch Hall in Perry Street, time 7 for 7.30 pm. Tickets are £5 per person and you are reminded to bring your own drinks and nibbles. Some willing Lions helped out with the ‘Billericay Pick’ last month when they together with other members of the community spent an hour and half collecting litter around the streets of Queens Park. The Christmas Market and the Christmas Sleigh is now virtually organised with routes and collection venues set. The sleigh just needs washing down, having spent the whole of the year in a pig barn, sweets have to be bought and we are all ready to take to the streets once again. All of the routes will be on our website below. Our next taste night, ‘Taste of Greece’, has already attracted a lot of interest and bookings. This will be held on Saturday March 29th at Emmanuel Church, Laindon Road and tickets will be £12 per person. Following this year’s success we are also hoping to hold another Big Band Night next year. Early signs are that this will be in May again and we are looking for suitable bands that will be available at that time. For details of all Lions events please visit our website www.billericaylions.com or telephone 0845 833 9849.

At the time of writing, final preparations were underway to make this years Billericay Round Table Fireworks display another fantastic event for our community to enjoy. Billericay Round Table members recently agreed to donate £10,000 that was required to complete the childrens play area project on the ‘royal green’ opposite The Rising Sun in the High Street. All of the members on Billericay Round Table are keen to support projects like this one as our neighbours and community can enjoy them for many years to come. We are running dangerously low on new members joining our group this year. Are you 18-45 years of age? Do you have a few hours spare each month to have some fun?
