DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS

Boo Corrigan Director of Athletics 5th Year | Notre Dame, 1990 Now in the midst of his fifth year as the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics at the Army West Point, Boo Corrigan has guided the Black Knights to incredible successes on the fields of friendly strife, victories over Navy, surpassed ambitious fundraising goals, upgraded several facilities, added three varsity sports and created a new brand identity, all while cadet-athletes continued to raise the bar academically. Corrigan was named Director of Intercollegiate Athletics on Feb. 1, 2011 and the short time since, Army has won the “Star” series against Navy, claimed the overall competition against the Midshipmen, added Academic All-American certificates, raised the annual fund by nearly $3 million, increased the “For Us All Capital Campaign by $55 million,” completed fundraising on a new lacrosse building and established 10new program endowments. Under Corrigan’s leadership, Army has added women’s lacrosse and men’s and women’s rugby to its offering of sports with nearly a quarter of the Corps of Cadets, around 1,000, competing in varsity sports under the athletic department. In addition to the additional sport offerings, a massive state-of-the art videoboard was added to Tate Rink, a press box was included at Doubleday Field at Johnson Stadium, the ticket office was upgraded and moved to a more fan-friendly location in Michie Stadium and work will begin the fall on a lacrosse building that will include locker rooms, team rooms, weight room, athletic training space and much more for both the men’s and women’s lacrosse programs. A branding campaign that started in 2011 at Michie Stadium will continue with additions to Christl Arena this fall. Corrigan has strengthened and expanded Army Athletics’ relationships in several key areas. In his tenure, Army has secured a new apparel agreement with Nike, a new pouring rights contract with Coke and bringing in the Aspire Group to enhance ticket sales and better serve Army season ticket holders. Corrigan also crafted the Team Army concept, a comprehensive plan designed to add significant value to Army’s corporate sponsorships while maintaining the tradition of West Point Athletics. In his first full three years at West Point, Corrigan has overseen a program that owns 11 Patriot League regular season or tournament championships and sent eight teams to the NCAA postseason. Thirtythree cadets have earned a major award from their conference, Last season, the senior class of 2015 set a high standard for future classes with a .556 winning percentage, marking the highest four-year percentage since the Class of 1995 finished with a .557 mark. In addition, Army West Point had another great year in the classroom with three cadet-athletes earning Patriot League Scholar-Athletes of the Year in their respective sports.

Army West Point also partnered with Nike to complete a successful rebranding initiative in the spring of 2015. Corrigan ushered in a new logo and word mark for Army West Point as part of the rebrand. In 2013-14, Corrigan led Army Athletics to its first star series victory since 1996, going 12-11 in star competitions against Navy. It was the 12th victory in the series for the Academy. West Point went 18-13 overall against the Mids during the year and has a 34-29-1 mark versus Navy in the last two seasons. Army finished a very successful campaign in 2013-14 with an overall record of 235-173-7 for a .575 winning percentage, the highest mark since 2004-05. The Black Knights brought home league titles in men’s tennis, baseball and women’s basketball. Army won regular season titles in men’s tennis and baseball, while the women’s hoops squad won the league tournament and was a 13th seed in the NCAA Tournament. Ten of Army’s squads participated in Patriot League postseason, while rifle earned an NCAA berth for the 11th-straight season. Army collected more than 100 all-league citations in 2012-13 alone. Hockey’s Cheyne Rocha and lacrosse’s Brendan Buckley each captured the Senior CLASS Award in their respective sports, making Army the only school in the nation to have multiple winners in 2012-13. During the 2012-13 season, Army teams combined to post an overall record of 236-183-8 for a .562 winning percentage. The winter sports programs had their best season in five years as the women’s basketball team won the Patriot League regular season title, the men’s basketball team posted its first winning season in 28 years and the rifle squad advanced to the NCAA Championships for the 10th consecutive season. It was also a great year in the competition against fellow service academies. Army split the season series versus Navy, 16-16-1, marking the best winning percentage against the Mids (.500) since 2004-05. The Black Knights owned a 4-2-1 record against Air Force, improving the record to 20-18-2 (.525) versus service academy foes in 2012-13. Cadet-athletes have continued to thrive in the classroom under Corrigan’s watch. In his three full years, Army has boasted 12 Academic All-Americans, including seven first-team selections. Lacrosse’s Brendan Buckely became the first Army athlete to capture Academic All-American of the Year honors in 2012. In 2011, the Black Knights’ football team boasted two first-team CoSIDA Academic AllAmericans, a first for the program since 1957. Since the start of the 2011-12 season, Army boasts six Patriot League Scholar-Athletes of the Year, including Buckley, a two-time overall men’s winner. During the 2013-14 season, Army registered five Academic AllAmerican selections. Twenty of Army’s 24 NCAA programs scored above the national average in the 2013 NCAA APR report. The men’s cross country and wrestling teams earned public recognition for finishing in the top 10 percent of their respective sport. The cross country squad boasted a perfect score of 1,000. In addition, former football standout Andrew Rodriguez, Class of 2012, became the first Army player to win the National Football Foundation’s Willam V. Campbell Trophy, which is presented annually to the nation’s top football scholar-athlete. Rodriguez later was honored with the Amateur Athletic Union’s James E. Sullivan Award as the top amateur athlete in the country. He was the first Army player to receive the award since 1946 and was just the third player in history (Peyton Manning, Tim Tebow) to win both the Campbell Trophy and Sullivan Award. Army has been the focus of national attention since Corrigan’s arrival. He was instrumental in supporting the CBS documentary, “Game of Honor,” that chronicled the Black Knights’ 2011 football season leading up to its annual showdown with arch-rival

Navy. Not only was the two-hour program broadcast to a national audience on Showtime, but also won the Emmy Award for Best Sports Documentary. The Army football team was also the focus of a behindthe-scenes book titled, “Soldiers First,” written by New York Times writer Joe Drape. In addition to his duties at West Point, Corrigan has been an active leader in the Patriot League, serving as chairman of the conference’s Broadband Committee. Corrigan, who was the senior associate athletic director for external affairs at Duke University starting in August 2008, brings a wealth of leadership to his post. He is a proven administrator with 18 previous years of experience in all areas of revenue generation, external affairs, staff management and leadership. Corrigan’s chief responsibilities at Duke included the oversight of the Blue Devil corporate partnerships and the Marketing, Promotions, Ticket, Internet Operations, Sports Information and Video Services departments. In only two years at Duke, Corrigan was responsible for the negotiation of multi-media rights to ISP. A supervisor of the 2009 NCAA Champion women’s tennis and 2010 NCAA Champion men’s lacrosse programs, Corrigan was a part of three NCAA Championships at Duke in just two seasons. He served as a member of the NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Rules committee and the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Lacrosse Committee, while serving on the Executive Budget Committee at Duke. Prior to arriving at Duke in August of 2008, he oversaw Notre Dame’s corporate relations and marketing as an associate athletic director for five years. During his stint at Notre Dame, Corrigan spearheaded the redesign of its official athletics website and creation of 15-20 hours of original video content weekly. That resulted in a 35 percent increase in page views and unique users. Corrigan also worked directly with ISP Sports, CSTV, and NBC Sports from a sales and marketing standpoint. Before joining the staff at Notre Dame, Corrigan spent nearly three years as the associate athletic director for marketing at the United States Naval Academy. He was responsible for turning the marketing department from a deficit to profit in his first year with full budget responsibility for the department. Corrigan also was intimately involved with the re-branding of the Annual Giving Campaign (The Blue and Gold), which led to an increase of 75 percent year over year donations. His collegiate experience also includes a stint as assistant director of marketing at Florida State from 1992-95. Corrigan is a 1990 University of Notre Dame graduate with a degree in economics. He is married to the former Kristen Aceto, a former field hockey and lacrosse player at the University of Virginia who also earned a master’s degree from the school. The couple has three children, Finley, Tre and Brian. He is the youngest of seven children of Gene and Lena Corrigan.

JIM POLING

Head Coach 14th Season Clemson ’70

Jim Poling is in his 14th season at the helm of the Army West Point men’s tennis program. Poling, four times named the Patriot League Coach of the Year, boasts a 217-139 record at the Academy, and a 438-306 mark through 29 years of coaching. He became the program’s all-time winningest coach on April 12, 2014 and won his 200th career match on February 5, 2016.

In 14 years at the Academy, Poling has mentored five Patriot League Players of the Year (Arnie Albornoz - 2003, John Sabia 2004, Carl Fisher - 2006), including two-time winner Asika Isoh (2012-13), and three Rookie of the Year honorees (Donald Van Velzer - 2009, Gary Kushnirovic – 2010, Sam Lampman – 2014). Poling’s Army teams have now appeared in the Patriot League championship match 21 times in the last 22 seasons. This season’s performance of 18-8 was the third consecutive season with at least 18 wins after posting an 18-9 record in 2015 and 20-6 record in 2014. It is only the fifth-time in team history that the Black Knights have achieved 18 wins or more in backto-back seasons. The 38 wins in the 2014 and 2015 campaigns combined was the third-most total wins over a two-year span behind only the 2000 and 2001 squads (39 wins) and 2004 and 2005 teams (40 wins). The 2014 Cadets squad reached the 20-win milestone for the first time since 2005. Army earned the regular season Patriot League crown with a perfect 7-0 conference record and topped Navy, 4-3, in the Star Match. The Black Knights cruised through the conference tournament to find the Midshipmen waiting in the title game. Army beat Navy yet again, 4-1, giving Poling his fourth Patriot League Tournament title. The team earned its sixth NCAA Tournament appearance. Despite falling to Virginia in the NCAA Tournament, Poling collected his fourth Patriot League Coach of the Year award. In 2012, Army’s bid for a second consecutive conference championship came up short, falling to top-seeded Navy in the title match. The Black Knights ended the year with a 16-13 mark, which included an 11-3 record on their home courts and a notable win against service academy rival Air Force. Despite having a young team with only one senior on the roster, the Black Knights ended their four-year drought of a Patriot League title in 2011 by defeating Lehigh, 4-2, to win the crown and the conference’s automatic NCAA Championship berth. Army prevailed in all eight contests against Patriot League opponents - six in the regular season and two in tournament play. Army’s 4-3 win over Navy in the annual Star Match marked the first time since 2004-2005 the Black Knights won back-to-back Star Matches, topping the Mids in 2010 as well. Poling garnered Patriot League Coach of the Year accolades in 2011. In the four seasons leading up to 2011’s championship Army fell in the finals match to service academy rival Navy. In 2006, the Black Knights won the Championship defeating American 4-2 in the finals. During the 2005 season, the Black, Gold and Gray tying an Academy-best 21-5 mark that the 2000 squad also achieved. In 2004, Army tallied a 19-8 dual match record, including a 5-1 mark in conference play. The Black Knights were 15-5 in 2003, Poling’s first season at the helm. Poling arrived at the Academy with 16 years of head coaching experience at the collegiate level, serving highly successful terms at Rollins (1993-2002), the University of Tulsa (1985-88), the University of South Alabama (1980-83) and Mississippi State University (1979-80). The Winter Park, Fla., native continued a legacy of tennis excellence at Rollins, guiding the Tars to the NCAA Tournament during each of his nine years at the helm. After directing Rollins to a 25-3 record and a Division II National Championship in 2001, Poling was named Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II National Coach of the Year in 2002. Poling led the defending national champion Tars to a 21-4 mark and a top four national ranking throughout the entire regular season. He also garnered Sunshine State Conference Coach of the Year honors for the second straight season (and third time in nine years), and was named ITA South Region Coach of the Year for the second time in six years. Poling led the Tars to a trio of top-three finishes in the NCAA Tournament during his first three years. His Tars club posted a 21-7 dual-match record in 1996 and reached the finals of the NCAA’s. For his efforts, he was named the ITA South Region Coach of the Year for the first time. Poling guided the Tars to a pair of third-place NCAA finishes the previous two seasons. The veteran mentor continued to build on his list of impressive accomplishments at Rollins. In addition to leading the Tars to the Division II national title in 2001, Poling presided over the National Rolex Doubles Champions, four All-Americans, the No. 3 doubles team in the nation, the top-ranked player in the nation, the conference player of the year and a pair of Sunshine State Conference team championships during that time. In all, three of his teams captured Sunshine State Conference crowns during his tenure at Rollins as he authored an impressive 147-79 (.650) dual-match record. A 1970 graduate of Clemson University, Poling lettered three times on the Tigers’ tennis squad. He was selected the team’s Most Valuable Player as a junior and helped Clemson to an Atlantic Coast Conference championship the following year. Poling ranks fifth in winning percentage in singles (78.0 percentage) and third in doubles winning percentage (78.3 percent) in school history. He then earned a master’s degree in exercise physiology from the University of South Alabama in 1982. Following graduation from Clemson, Poling served two years in the U.S. Army and was awarded the Bronze Star for service in Vietnam. He began his collegiate coaching career in 1979 with a one-year stint as men’s head coach at Mississippi State, before moving to guide both the men’s and women’s tennis programs at South Alabama in 1980. Poling led the Jaguar men to three consecutive Sun Belt Conference titles and was twice named the league’s coach of the year. During his third season at South Alabama, the Jaguars captured the National Independent Tournament title and Poling was named the NIT Coach of the Year. He then spent three years running both men’s and women’s tennis programs at Tulsa, earning Missouri Valley Coach of the Year honors in 1987, before moving on to Rollins in September of 1993. Record at Army (Years): 217-139 (14) Poling is married to Marianne Ingard Poling, a member of a national champion tennis team during her undergraduate days at Stanford University. He has three children - Lilian, Matthew, and Karl.

SEASON IN REVIEW The Army West Point men’s tennis team won its ninth Patriot League title and earned its seventh NCAA Tournament berth with a season full of dramatics. The Black Knights head into their first-ever match with the 13th-seed California with an 18-8 record. Army found early success with a pair of 5-2 wins to open the season. The Cadets victory in the opener versus Connecticut was the 200th of head coach Jim Poling’s career at Army. The Black Knights then lost six of their next nine matches. However, Army had to play without junior Sam Lampman, who consistently plays in the top singles position and in doubles with sophomore Michael Nguyen, due to an injury that sidelined him a month. Additionally, the schedule included No. 52 St. John’s in addition to “Power Five Conference” teams Miami (Fla.) and Minnesota. Army then win ten of its next 11 matches including starting 4-0 in Patriot League play. The Black Knights then went to Navy for the annual Star Match in what would be a thrilling contest to end the regular season. Both teams entered undefeated in league action and were fighting for the top spot heading into the league tournament. While Army lost, they won two singles matches, were ahead in another, and only narrowly lost in the second flight, 7-6 (7-4), 7-5.

Navy began the match by taking the doubles point. It soon became a 2-2 affair after Army took singles victories in the third and fourth flights while Navy claimed a win in the top position. Junior Grant Riechmann exacted his revenge on former high school classmate, Thomas Pecor, with a three-set win in the second singles slot, 7-6 (7-2), 4-6, 7-5. This was the same matchup from eight days before that the Midshipmen clinched the match. The Mids rebounded with a win in the sixth singles flight to knot the score up at 3-3. It all came down to the fifth singles battle between junior Kyle Barnes and Navy’s Krishna Jana. Barnes, who dominated the first set 6-1, lost 7-5 in the second set. The match went into a third-set tiebreaker and after having three previous chances at match point, Barnes won the match on his fourth attempt to clinch the title for the Black Knights, winning 7-4 in the tiebreaker. Freshman David Mitchell earned Patriot League Tournament MVP for his consistent efforts over the three days. The IMG Academy product won all three of his matches, overcoming first set losses against Bucknell and Navy. Nguyen leads the team this spring in victories, boasting a 14-4 record. He has won six straight contests. The top doubles team this spring has been Barnes and senior Austin McCasin for the third straight season. They are 10-3 this season, playing 11 of those matches in the second doubles flight. Army Projected Line-Up versus Cal Singles 1. Sam Lampman (3-10 spring, 3-9 at No. 1) 2. men’s Tennis

the culture of Winning Men’s Tennis, The Culture of Winning By: Joshua Gleason | March 25, 2016 The office has a multitude of racquets propped up against the desk. Boxes of tennis balls sit on a chair waiting to be opened while a few more are scattered individually along the floor. The walls are fashioned with a number of papers, a few of which contain inspirational quotes ranging from the likes of tennis legend Andre Agassi to war hero William A. Foster, along with various photos and pictures. There is no mistaking this is the office of Army West Point men’s tennis coach Jim Poling. He is in his 15th season at the Academy and 29th as a head coach. He loves the game of tennis and there is more that illustrates that than just the décor of his office. There is an uptick in his inflection when Poling talks about the sport, as he speaks passionately about tennis and the program at Army. Poling has the enthusiasm for the game that one would expect from somebody who grew up in the sport and involved at a young age. But that was not his path. “I was about 13-years old and my family moved to Florida from Ohio,” recalls Poling. “I rode my bike on a whim down to Rollins College and watched these guys play. I had a racquet at home and I just started going every day.” Poling would ride his bike down to the courts where the head coach of the Tars, Norm Copeland, took him under his wing. Whether it be luck or just mere coincidence, it was a fortunate landing spot for a young Poling. Copeland wound up in the Collegiate Tennis Hall of Fame following a 38-year coaching career in which he racked up 732 wins, the most in Division II history. “I went there every day and fell in love with college tennis.” Poling’s constant work over his teenage years paid off. He went on to be a highly successful player at Clemson University in the late 1960’s. His slew of accolades include earning an ACC Championship in the fifth singles and second doubles flights as a junior while going 18-2 in singles that season. Poling helped lead his team to an ACC title as a senior in 1969 where he also won the championship in the top doubles position. In all, he boasts topfive win percentages in school history in singles (fifth - 78.0 percent) and doubles (third - 78.3 percent). Poling joined the Army following his playing days and served in the Vietnam War. He reached the rank of First Lieutenant and earned a Bronze Star. His triumphs as a player and time spent serving his country are fitting for a coach at the United States Military Academy. A few more stops were made before finally settling in West Point. Poling got his first head coaching gig at Mississippi State before heading to the likes of South Alabama, Tulsa, and finally, Rollins. He led the Tars to a Division II National Championship in 2001 and added three other top three finishes during his tenure.

THE CULTURE OF WINNING Poling shrugs off the notion that his past stops in coaching play a large part in his coaching now saying, “I learn something new every day, every year.” “New ways of doing things, making it more challenging and more fun,” continues Poling. “The key here is you know these guys are probably going to be spent by Thursday. You better have something fun to do on Thursday and Friday if you don’t have any matches.” Coaching at a service academy provides challenges that are unique to this place alone. Cadets have to be awake at the crack of dawn for a day full of class, various formations, practice, and homework. Due to the strenuous schedule, the players cannot be at their peak every day. “A lot of days when they come out here, I ask them ‘how much is in your tank?’” says Poling. “They’ll say how much they have that day. If they tell me a nine and give me a three or a four, then I am not very happy. We ask them to give us what they have in their tanks. We know the tank isn’t always full at this point.” Poling expounds that the players need to be “true warriors” like the one philosopher Joseph A. Campbell writes about. They must give as much effort as they can each day to not only get the best out of themselves but the best out of their teammates. “The true warrior says yes to it all and that’s what we preach here. Rainy day, bad day, windy day, cold day, you’re tired, you’re getting cheated, great day, you accept it all and say ‘I’m a true warrior, I got it.’” Randy Rowley, the men’s tennis assistant coach now in his seventh season, also made a number of varying stops before West Point at other colleges and instructing junior players and professional players. He sees the differences clearly. “I was at Texas Tech and at Kansas,” says Rowley, “and you get players in there thinking they are going to try the (professional) tour. They’re always a little sidetracked beyond what they need to be looking at. Here, it’s the task at hand. They are not constantly thinking about the tour or this and that. They know where their place is in tennis and they try to get the best out of their tennis and are realistic with it.” He enjoys the schedule that the Cadets have to follow because of the values it instills in them and the mindset it generates. “For me as a coach, Cadets are just a different type of kid. They’re very taskoriented; they like regiment, they like discipline, they like the structure. They love that stuff. As a coach, it’s much easier to work with.” Tennis a much more personal sport for the dynamic between coaches and players than any other. Poling is composed and collected on the court, perhaps something that has carried over from his playing days, a common trait among successful tennis players. He is not demonstrative in his critiques of his players’ maybe because he knows tennis is a small part of their lives and that greater challenges await while serving their country. @ARMYWP_Mtennis

the culture of Winning The program has reached new heights with both men in town. The astounding success includes winning 25 straight Patriot League matches, regular season or postseason, excluding Navy. The triumphs over the Midshipmen have been there as well, as the current crop of seniors has never lost a Star Match. Yet, these two men are remarkably dissimilar.

say, ‘is this what we want? Is this kid going to fit in here?’”

“We are as far opposite as you could possibly be, and it is the absolute greatest,” Rowley says with a grin. “We can pick up where the other may stumble. It helps a lot, especially with recruiting. We are each looking at two different things and we can bring it back and

Poling has an upbeat personality and likes to go with the flow in a sense. Rowley, on the other hand is scrupulous, and prefers when things are scheduled and adhere to that agenda in a timely fashion. Even physically there is a clear difference between the two men; Poling possesses average height but sports a full head of hair and a thick mustache while Rowley’s clean-shaven head sits higher than the majority of people he meets. “We have two different people coaching this team,” says Poling. “He has a different outlook of the game. He traveled on the circuit with some pro tournament players. He is more strategic and I think I’m more mechanical in terms of fixing fundamental problems a player has. The two of us together make a pretty good team. He is also very meticulous in his planning and I’m not known for that.” It’s a yin and yang or opposites attract situation; they complement each other in an unbelievable way that results in the best for the Army men’s tennis program. Rowley states that, “from the outside looking-in, you would probably wonder how we haven’t killed each other. But you get inside and look around and see how well we work together. It’s fantastic.” “We both have the same goals but just two totally different routes to try and get there and it makes it fun because we can try and combine.” It’s led to something more than being colleagues as the two have a strong friendship, which Rowley emphatically says. “Of all the places I’ve ever been, this has been the most enjoyable and it’s because of coach Poling. When he leaves, it’ll be the saddest day for me. I’m not only going to be losing a great friend, but a great coach. He’s just fun to be around every day. It’s fun going to work every day and it’s because of him.” The continuity has done wonders. Last season, the Black Knights posted an 18-9 mark to reach back-to-back 18 win seasons for just the fourth-time in Academy history. They tallied 38 wins combined in the springs of 2014 and 2015, the third-most total over a two-year span. “We’re getting better players,” shares Rowley. “When I got here we were getting good players but now, we are getting four and five star players that we weren’t getting when I first got here.” @ARMYWP_Mtennis

13

men’s Tennis

THE CULTURE OF WINNING Poling cites the incredible facility that is the Lichtenberg Tennis Center as a huge draw in recruiting. “When people come and see that, they know West Point is making a real commitment to tennis. It’s changed our recruiting.” He points at two-time All-Patriot League selection, junior Sam Lampman, and mentions how he was a five-star recruit. Poling brings up that former two-time Patriot League Player of the Year Asika Isoh was a five-star recruit too. “The facility sells itself.” This is coupled with having a support staff to make this all possible. Poling speaks glowingly of Athletic Director Boo Corrigan and how they went on two trips in the fall to sites they had never been to before and the excitement that generated for the team. They followed by visiting Minnesota and Miami (Fla.) in the spring before going back to Florida for a spring break. “Our athletic director allows us to do these great trips. And that’s made a huge difference.” One can begin to see the correlation to trying to build more than just a team, but a family. “The support staff, Officer Representatives, the sports psychologists, our trainer David Allen. It’s a family. The reason we’re successful is because this is a family and we’re building family values.” It’s clear a culture of winning has been established. Earlier this season with a 5-2 win against Connecticut, Poling became the first men’s tennis coach in school history to reach 200 career wins at the academy. Army’s dominance during Poling’s time is simply remarkable and contains a laundry list of accolades. Eight Patriot League titles over that span, at least one Patriot League First Team member every season, and an impressive 90-16 record against current Patriot League teams highlight the Black Knights accomplishments. This is something that should have been expected when Poling came to town given his history of winning as a player and coach. Mix in his demeanor and having a strong running mate in Rowley, one could expect the wins to continue to pile up.

PATRIOT LEAGUE

The Patriot League, which was founded on the principles of admitting athletes who are academically representative of their class, is in its third decade of academic and athletic achievement. Participation in athletics at Patriot League institutions is viewed as an important component of a well-rounded education. The Patriot League began as a successful Division I-AA (now called Football Championship Subdivision) football conference in 1986. Full League members include American, Army West Point, Boston University, Bucknell, Colgate, Holy Cross, Lafayette, Lehigh, Loyola Maryland and Navy. Associate members include Fordham in football, Georgetown in both football and women’s rowing, Massachusetts Institute of Technology in women’s rowing and Richmond in women’s golf. These member institutions are among the oldest and most prestigious in the nation. Alumni from Patriot League colleges and universities have played a leadership role in the shaping of our country. In the classroom, the Patriot League’s full-member institutions, individually and collectively, consistently rank among the top Division I programs in the NCAA Graduation Rates Report. Since 1998, the Patriot League has ranked first among all Division I conferences offering scholarships in student-athlete graduation rates according to the NCAA Graduation Rates report. The League finished at the top spot with 96 percent of its teams reporting a graduation rate of 85 percent or higher in the most recent data. In addition, 90 Patriot League teams earned NCAA Academic Performance Program Public Recognition Awards after posting academic progress rate scores in the top 10 percent of all squads in their respective sports. League members have also distinguished themselves on the field of play. The Patriot League sponsors championship competition in 24 sports (11 for men; 13 for women). Championship teams from 15 sports are guaranteed advancement into NCAA post-season competition: baseball, men and women’s basketball, field hockey, football, men’s golf, men and women’s lacrosse, rowing, men and women’s soccer, softball, men and women’s tennis and volleyball. Along the timeline of Patriot League history about three-quarters of the Patriot League’s Scholar-Athletes of the Year also received All-Patriot League status for their exemplary athletic performance. In the Patriot League’s history, more than 200 student-athletes have been recognized as CoSIDA Academic AllAmericans, while more than 12,000 have qualified for the League’s Academic Honor Roll. Dozens of studentathletes have received NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships. Additionally, Patriot League student-athletes have earned Fulbright Scholarships, Rhodes Scholarships, Marshall Scholarships, Victory Scholarship and NACDA/ Disney Scholarships.
