Joana Vasconcelos nasceu em Paris, em 1971. Vive e trabalha em Lisboa. A natureza do processo criativo de Joana Vasconcelos assenta na apropriação, descontextualização e subversão de objetos pré-existentes e realidades do quotidiano. Partindo de engenhosas operações de deslocação, reminiscência do ready-made e das gramáticas nouveauréaliste e pop, a artista oferece-nos uma visão cúmplice, mas simultaneamente crítica, da sociedade contemporânea e dos vários aspetos que servem os enunciados de identidade coletiva, em especial aqueles que dizem respeito ao estatuto da mulher, diferenciação classista, ou identidade nacional. Resulta desta estratégia um discurso atento às idiossincrasias contemporâneas, onde as dicotomias artesanal/industrial, privado/público, tradição/modernidade e cultura popular/cultura erudita surgem investidas de afinidades aptas a renovar os habituais fluxos de significação característicos da contemporaneidade. Recebeu, em 2006, o prémio The Winner Takes ItAll, da Fundação Berardo, com a obra “Néctar”, atualmente instalada no Museu Colecção Berardo, Lisboa; em 2003, foi-lhe atribuído o Prémio Tabaqueira de Arte Pública para o seu projeto “Kit Garden”, instalado no Largo do Intendente, em Lisboa; e, em 2000, venceu o Prémio EDP Novos Artistas. As intervenções no domínio de arte pública assumem especial relevância no trabalho da artista, destacando-se os projetos: Pavillon de Thé (PA), CafesjianCenter for theArts, Erevan (2012); Kit Garden, Largo do Intendente, Lisboa (2012); Trianons #1, Parque de Escultura Contemporânea Almourol, Vila Nova da Barquinha (2012); Portugal a Banhos, Doca de Santo Amaro, Lisboa (2010); La Théière, LeRoyalMonceau, Paris (2010); Sr. Vinho, Mercado Municipal de Torres Vedras, Torres Vedras (2010); Jardim Bordallo Pinheiro, Jardim do Museu da Cidade, Lisboa (2009); Varina, Ponte D. Luís I, Porto (2008); A Jóia do Tejo, Torre de Belém, Lisboa (2008).

23 demarço a 25 de agosto Exposição de Joana Vasconcelos no Palácio Nacional da Ajuda Palácio Nacional da Ajuda Foi inaugurada no dia 22 de março, no Palácio Nacional da Ajuda a exposição de Joana Vasconcelos. Esta iniciativa, que está aberta ao público de 23 de Março a 25 de agosto, mostra a última década do trabalho de Joana Vasconcelos, reunindo obras icónicas como A Noiva, Coração Independente ou Marilyn, lado a lado com obras mais recentes, nunca antes expostas em Portugal, como Lilicoptère, Perruque ou War Games. O diálogo entre as obras da artista e os interiores únicos do Palácio Nacional da Ajuda, prometem transformar esta exposição num acontecimento marcante da arte contemporânea em Portugal e a mais ambiciosa exposição de Joana Vasconcelos.

Pierre and Marie Curie Pierre and Marie are known for their work in the study of radioactivity, which led to their discovery, in 1898, of the elements radium and polonium. Marie Curie was born in Warsaw, Poland in 1867; she spent many years as a teacher before she joined her sister in Paris, in order to study mathematics and physics at the Sorbonne, earning degrees in both subjects in 1893 and 1894. In the spring of the latter year she met and fell in love with a young scientist, Pierre Curie, they soon got married and started doing scientific research together and gave birth to two daughters, Irene (1897) and Eve (1904) Pierre Curie was born in 1859 and obtained his doctorate in the year of his marriage, but he had already distinguished himself (along with his brother Jacques) in the study of the properties of crystals. They continue to work after their marriage in a laboratory at the Ecole de Physique et de ChimieIndustrielle in Paris and did many experiments and quickly discovered polonium and radium. Marie and Pierre won a Nobel Prize in Physics in 1903. In 1906 Pierre died and Marie took over his position of Professor of Physics at the Sorbonne. In 1911, she received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry and during the World War I invented the first mobile X-ray machine. Marie Curie died in 1934, of radiation poisoning. The work of Marie and Pierre Curie had helped save many lives and it is still used today in the treatment of cancer.

Michelle Obama and Barack Obama Barack Obama, born in Honolulu (August 4, 1961), and Michelle Obama, born in Chicago (January 17, 1964), are one of the most known and important couples nowadays. Both of them went to Harvard Law School and became lawyers. Barack Obama was also a teacher of constitutional law and a community organizer. Despite the fact of attending the same university, Michelle and Barack Obama only met in a law firm, Sidley Austin, in Chicago, where both of them worked. After meeting each other in 1989, they got married on October 18, 1992. Now they have two daughters, Malia Ann who is 15 and Natasha, 11 years old. Obama is the current president of the United States and he is the first African-American president of all time and Michelle Obama is the first African-American First lady. After being related to politics for a few years, Barack Obama became the president of the USA on January 20, 2009 when he won against John McCain. In November, 2012 he was re-elected president, when he defeated Mitt Romney. Curiosities Obama was awarded with the Nobel Prize in 2009 for his “extraordinary efforts to strengthen the role of international diplomacy and cooperation between people.” Nowadays, Michelle Obama tops the list of the 100 most influent women in the world, according to Forbes magazine. Dogs in the president family are also important and known as First dog. Obama promised to give a dog to his daughters when the campaign was over. One of his daughters was allergic so the dog had to be special. It ended up to be a Portuguese dog (“cãod’águaportuguês” originated from Algarve), named Bo. Joana Maia, nº16 10ºA
