II appears Ihal there are a variety of methods and resources that we may call upon to successfully lead our state in developing a coordinated response 10 the crime of family violence. To be successful will. of course, require thai our membership exert our collective strength and wisdom 10 accomplish the many challenges and tasks. We must listen to the victims and be open to the inpul of those in other vocations and professions. I urge those of you who are il1lerested to provide me with your suggestions and COI11ments. Clearly, together we can all make a difference in the lives of others and in our system of justice.

In those instances where junior deputies do issue warrants. they are required 10 do so through Municipal Court and senior deputies then evaluate the case prior to filing the felonies in Circuil Court when

those cases are bound over. In effect, a senior deputy. (specifically the Chief Deputy or Prosecutor) evaluates all felony cases prior to the filing of charges in Circuit Court. In fact, overview is closer in the charging decision than in the actual disposition phase of handling cases in our office. Once the charging decision is made. ofnce policy. the sentencing grid, and the Legislative set penalties dictate the disposition to a great exlent.
